Hard to find a leader with the scratchings taking the pace out of the race. MAGNUS RED (1) went back from a wide gate and failed to feature last start over 1250m at Gunnedah. Can't take a trick with the barriers, drawing double figures for the fourth run in a row. Coming back to this trip is a tick. Capable of finishing over the top of these. KING RUPERT (2) ran a nice race first-up at Tamworth then struggled in an 1100m Randwick Highway last time out. Both his wins have come at today's trip and he saluted at this stage last prep. Watch for a turnaround in form. MINNEWATER (4) caught the eye when resuming over 900m at Wellington recently, coming from next to last on the bend to beat all but the all-the-way winner. Down in class today and the extra trip is ideal. Major contender. SCORPIUS (6) has been freshened up since a poor effort at Parkes five weeks ago. In the money 5/6 at today's journey so he deserves another chance. MISSILE MAIDEN (10) is racing well and can figure in the finish again with luck from a wide alley. SUGGESTED PLAY: Magnus Red each-way.
