Clew Bay has good gate speed and can overcome the wide draw to lead. INTOXICATED (2) was backing up quickly when dropping back to a mile and storming home to finish fifth at Waverley 2 weeks ago. Returning to a middle distance will suit him, and he is good enough to win a race like this. CLEW BAY (4) ran on late fourth up over 2000m at New Plymouth 18 days ago, and she will be seasoned enough to cope with an extra furlong here. Stick with her on an each-way basis. JACK CRABB (1) got back off a wide gate in his first run over a middle distance, and ran on strongly at Ellerslie 11 days ago, finishing sixth. The extra furlong will suit him, and he should go close to taking this out. POINTER (5) tried hard and was not far away from the winner when finishing out of the money at Ellerslie last time out. She has won here in the past, and a form reversal would not be a shock. Include. ZACABASSO (9) has been a touch plain since winning her maiden, but Craig Grylls sticks with her, and so do we. SUGGESTED PLAY: Pointer at big each-way odds.
