Reasonable tempo with a few going forward, headed by Steel Claws. LA GRACIA (14) stepped up to the mile when second-up last time out and did a reasonable job to finish fourth. Should take a lot from that run, and at the third run back looks the prime contender. STEEL CLAWS (6) has raced well this prep, including a last start second over 1500m at Muswellbrook, where he raced on the speed all the way. Yet to be tried over the mile but gives every indication he will run it out strongly. PIERANT (9) produced an eye-catcher at Taree recently, coming from well back on straightening to get up for second. Cherry ripe after three runs back and should play a role in the outcome. SHAMIC (13) is back in trip but has been freshened up and cannot be ruled out. MAKEAWOOTURN (3) ran a better race last start and might sneak into the frame. SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing La Gracia.
