Denuto has the pace to lead in what is likely to be a moderate tempo. DARK STRATUM (2) started favourite when out of the money over this trip at Taree last start. Raced three-wide from an outside draw that day and the effort told late in the piece. Draws the fence in a very thin maiden today and this looks his best chance yet to break through. CLEVER ILLUSION (1) registered his eighth minor placing from twenty-five starts when an eye-catching third over 1512m at Port Macquarie last Sunday. Placed four from six at this distance. Going better than most of these and on the five-day back-up makes plenty of appeal. DENUTO (3) raced handy but was no match for the winner over 1250m at Ballina most recently. Genuine three-year-old who will enjoy getting out to this trip and looks a serious contender. SASKATOON BERRY (9) impressed over 1200m at Grafton last time and strips fitter third-up. No wins after twenty-seven runs is the concern. The winner should come from this quartet, SHACKAMAXON (10) next in line. SUGGESTED PLAY: Dark Stratum to win.
