NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:07 THE TELE OTAKI MAIDEN 1400m
Expecting a moderate pace headed by Button Ya Lip and Brutiful Lass. BRUTIFUL LASS (3) has been placed in 7 of her 8 starts to date, including her fresh third as a warm favourite at Tauherenikau nearly 2 weeks ago over 1000m. The extra 400m is the key, and she can break through for her first win in this. Follow your money. OUR EDWARDO (2) makes his debut as a rising 4YO, and he won his only public trial in February, but would have attended his local jump-outs. He is bred to cope with a wet track, and he is sure to have many admirers. Follow the money. MERCY (8) was a game runner-up on debut, and then was not disgraced in 3 further starts during her initial prep. She has only had a short break, and he astute stable will have her ready to rumble fresh. SHADOW RULER (6) ran on too late from well back here 5 weeks ago, and was not far off the placings. She gets a big swing in her draw this time, and she is expected to be right in the finish. AMALTHEA (4) was only beaten by a short-head at Woodville last start, and she will only continue to improve.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Brutiful Lass can win this.
2 12:44 HARCOURTS OTAKI HANDICAP 1100m
Reasonable tempo with Riomosa probably leading but a few others should keep him honest. GREAT ESCAPE (6) has been taken along quietly, and will be resuming from a new stable for a new trainer. Her recent trial form last month has been very good, and she would only have to run up to her prior good form, to be the hardest to beat here. Follow the money. BENERRO (4) won his maiden at Whanganui in his penultimate start, before battling into seventh at Pukekohe just over 8 weeks ago. He could be better racing in an anti-clockwise direction, and he can make amends in this. BRIGIT (7) has been off the scene for nearly a year, but her astute stable knows how to get them right off a long break. The market will be our best guide in this. PERFECT PETE (8) showed talent on heavy ground at the start of his last prep, and he has a home track advantage. Include.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Great Escape each-way.
3 01:21 CAVALLO FARM & CHRIS RUTTEN BLOODSTOCK THREE YEAR OLD 1200m
Genuine tempo from Cremant leading Belles Boom. VALVANO (6) had an excuse for his last start modest effort, and he was immediately put aside to mature. He has a fairly big private reputation, and now that he has been given that time, he will be a lot stronger this year. A good draw on his home track puts him on top for us, even though he is facing race winners. BELLES BOOM (1) resumes from a spell after showing plenty of talent earlier in the season. He can make full use of the pole position, and a wet track is no problem at all. Hard to bear. LONDON (4) has been freshened up since winning 2 races on the bounce, which included his last start at Hawera just over 7 weeks ago. She has trialled up well since then, and there is no reason why she can't complete a hat-trick of wins. CREMANT (3) won fresh up here on a heavy track just over 3 weeks ago. She is unbeaten here, and she should go close to repeating the dose. SHAMELESS STAR (2) will find this much easier than her last couple of starts, and a form reversal is likely. Each way.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Valvano to win.
4 02:03 FASTINTERNET.NZ HANDICAP 2200m
Strong tempo with Highly Lethal, Hey Hey Hey and Quid leading the way. HELLUVAH RETURN (1) was well ridden to score at Waverley a week ago, and while she is holding her form, she can cope with a busy schedule. This field is no harder, and if she can cope with her weight rise, then she can win again. DANJURO (2) fought on gamely for third on a heavy track at Waipukurau nearly 3 weeks ago over 1600m. He strips fitter second up, and the extra 500m will suit him. Hard to beat in this. QUID (3) is a very handy hurdler who still retains plenty of dash on the flat, and his fresh up effort for second at Whanganui 4 weeks ago was full of merit. He has winning form on the course, and he has also won second up in the past. He can go one better here. HIGHLY LETHAL (6) can be hard to catch, and he whacked away fairly here last time out when finishing last of 6 over 2100m. He has the pole position, and he is worth another chance at good odds. GREY INVADOR (9) is a stablemate of the fourth pick, who is just as much of an enigma. His best is definitely good enough.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Helluvah Return can win again.
5 02:36 JENNIAN HOMES HANDICAP 1200m
Ima Brazen One should spear straight to the front of the small field. SINDEE (4) needed her fresh run in stakes company here last month, and then found the right level when scoring off a wide gate at Woodville just over 2 weeks ago. She has another 2kg to carry, but she is more than capable of repeating the dose. BOLD BELLE (1) lost her jockey in the same race as the second pick, and was building her form in stakes company before that run. She will be at her peak fitness now, and she is due a change of luck. Each way. IMA BRAZEN ONE (3) is still on the up with her fitness, and won't be far away. LEGALLY BINDING (6) is likely to race on the pace from his good draw, and if he can settle, then he can figure right in the finish. Each way value. SINBIN (7) resumes from a spell, and with the advantage of the pole position, she will be ready to run a big race fresh. Follow the money.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Sindee can win this.
6 03:11 VETS ON RIVERBANK HANDICAP 1400m
Plenty of pace with El Jaycee and Jungle Love up front, pressured by Bay Express and Kakadu. EIZUS (10) ended a promising campaign this season on a winning note in January, and she will resume here at a higher level, but with less weight to carry. She cops a wide gate, which can sometimes be an advantage on this circuit when they all start coming wide at this time of the day. She can win, but check the market moves first. SCELTA DI ELENA (2) can be a frustrating gelding at times, and he is usually running on from the back in his races. He can race closer to the pace over this trip, and he is to always a top 4 chance. KERETI (6) broke a win drought when winning at Whanganui 4 weeks ago, and he can measure up in this grade as well. SENSE OF TIMING (5) strips fitter, and she is expected to improve sharply. Each way value. DOLLYBIRD (9) is always a top 4 chance in a field like this.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Scelta Di Elena each way.
7 03:46 JAMES BULL RANGITIKEI GOLD CUP 1600m
A strong gallop is likely with Riverplate and Khafre taking up the running, closely attended by Bradman and The Scunner. WHO KNOWS (6) kicked of this prep with a nice win over 1600m at Trentham, and then tackled group company in 2 subsequent starts, where she was probably a tad disappointing when considering the solid market support that she carried. She looks very well placed at the weights in this, and she can set the record straight. On top. BRIDAL TRAIN (8) got a long way out of her ground at Te Rapa 2 weeks ago, and she was left with too much ground to make up in the run home. She drops 5kg, and is well worth another chance. Stick with her. TALISKER (7) resumed with a gutsy win over 1400m at Te Rapa 3 weeks ago. He should be strong enough to cope with 1600m this year, and he can figure in the top 4 again, despite his wide draw. BELARDO BOY (1) lunged late and only missed out on a fresh up win by a nose at Whanganui 4 weeks ago. He has trialled nicely since then, and his record here is very strong. Each way. ZANTABULOUS (14) has held her form over the summer, and her wet track form is even better.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Who Knows can take this out.
8 04:21 OTAKI TYRE REPAIRS HANDICAP 1600m
Strong pace with Chester Boy pushing forward along with The Finnster from an outside gate. UNUSUAL CORTEZ (5) really let down with a powerful finish when winning his debut at Waipukurau nearly 3 weeks ago. He has been given plenty of time to mature, and he is expected to race is way through the grades this winter, if he is not sold before then. THE WEAPON (4) looked likely at Waverley a week ago before peaking late on his effort. He has a good gate, and is ready to win another race. FAIR GAME (2) let down strongly on the same day as the top pick at Waipukurau, and bolted into score his first win over 1400m at just his third start. Only a wide draw is stopping him from taking the next step immediately, but with some luck, he can still get the job done. CREATION (1) followed up his debut second with a comfortable maiden win at Tauherenikau nearly 2 weeks ago, and even though he meets some smart types here, he can still give them plenty to think about. STARPELLO (7) has been freshened, and he is worth including.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Unusual Cortez can win again, and The Weapon is also close to winning again.
