SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1300m
Plenty of first starters engaged which muddies the map a little. It is fair to assume a solid tempo. NAUGHTY NEIL (2) started favourite and took care of a small field of maidens at Ipswich recently. Finding the line with purpose so an extra 100m here looks a suitable path. SPIRIT OF TORQUE (8) ran out a strong 1350m at Ipswich last start, beaten narrowly. Takes on better opposition this time but she is open to further improvement. BODMIN MOOR (4) is a Cool Aza Beel gelding on debut for the Munce stable and has come along nicely at the trials. Will pay to see what the market thinks of him. Bright start anticipated. MURKADO (5) is another debutant that holds claims, even more so with key scratchings. Draws to get the gun run and is worth including. SUGGESTED PLAY: Naughty Neil to win. |

RACECOURSE VILLAGE Class 3 Plate 1000m
Angel Ladder, Neil and Seams Logical to battle for the lead at a strong tempo.
DAGGERS (5) is an interesting runner, first-up from a six-month spell for new trainer Tony Gollan. Tackled three black-type races when prepared in Victoria, placing once. Goes best when fresh and the two trials since coming north have been solid. Big chance with the aid of a lovely barrier. COSMO CENTAURUS (1) returns after a four-month lay-off. Has three wins to his name, all at this stage of the campaign. Carried today's weight to victory when first-up at Doomben last prep. Hard to fault. Flying filly ANGEL LADDER (10) followed a couple of near misses with a well-deserved win by the barest margin over this course and distance a fortnight back. Will zip along in front again and with just 54kgs after the claim can give them something to catch. LA BELLA BOOM (12) has been off the scene for 15 months and returns for a second campaign. Trialling well but let the betting tell the story. ISTI STAR (11) had post-race issues first-up. Big subsequent trial winner who can improve sharply. SUGGESTED PLAY: Daggers should be ready to win first-up. |

SKY RACING BENCHMARK 80 Handicap 2200m
Akkadian Emperor and Placid Pearl look to bowl along in front. Matthew Smith sends PLACID PEARL (2) to Queensland following recent stakes racing in Sydney. Travelled handy and did a great job to hold on for third at 100-1 in the Group 3 Epona over 1900m at Rosehill last start. Maps nicely in behind the speed and will find this far easier. Beautifully placed to take this out. AKKADIAN EMPEROR (1) stepped up to open company and was lining up for the hat trick but found a couple better late in the piece over 2000m at Doomben last Saturday. Easily won a similar race here three back with just 1.5kgs more. Leading contender. KUREDER (5) returned to form with a determined victory over a longer trip here four weeks ago. Has strung wins together before so he is a big chance again. ARTFUL GIRL (10) struggled in open company last weekend at Doomben but can bounce back in this more suitable assignment. In form mare LOVEY DOVEY (8) is on a seven-day back-up and should be hitting the line with gusto. SUGGESTED PLAY: Placid Pearl to win. |

DRINKWISE Class 6 Plate 1200m
Solid tempo with Restonica possessing enough dash to find the front. Hard to put the pen through any of these. BUNKER HUT (4) makes the most appeal on the back of strong NSW form this prep. Handy all the way when beaten under two lengths in the BM94 Bert Lillye Memorial at Kembla last start. Drops 3kgs with the claim and should be close to his peak at the third run back. ABOUT TO EXPLODE (1) started $1.75 and got the job done in a BM85 over this course and distance a fortnight ago. More depth to this and he goes up 2kgs but his record here at 1200m is impressive. RESTONICA (3) had never won when fresh from a spell until five weeks ago in a BM78 here at today's journey. Kept fresh and his second-up form is far better. Lightly raced five-year-old who might be back better than ever. Genuine mare PARTY SPIRIT (8) is in the mix with just 53kgs after the claim. SUGGESTED PLAY: Like Bunker Hut in this company. |

BECOME A BRC MEMBER BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1830m
Looks a keen contest with Rock Ya and Amahni's Girl pressing for the lead with Ring Bearer and La Rosetta close at hand. MAKE A CALL (2) has been about the mark of late without winning in better races than this. Last appeared in a BM70 four back and recorded a barnstorming win at Doomben with 1kg more. Won't spend a cent from the draw and this looks his ideal assignment. ROCK YA (7) shared the lead into the lane but lacked the kick required and was beaten just under two lengths over the mile here a fortnight ago. Fitter for two runs back from a spell and getting out to today's journey is the key to his chances. ABSOLUTE SUNSHINE (3) dug deep to get up for third at the Gold Coast last time out. Not sure coming back in trip is ideal but he is honest and should be thereabouts. RING BEARER (6) has a fine record at today's distance and is well treated after the claim. SUGGESTED PLAY: Make A Call to win. |

XXXX OPEN Handicap 1000m
Expecting En Pointe to find the lead but there will be plenty of pressure over the sprint trip.
FLEETWOOD (5) has been freshened up since just missing in a busy finish over 1110m at Doomben six weeks ago. Gets in nicely on 55kgs and with blinkers applied off a six-week break expect him to be fired right up. SCAMPI (3) had been racing well before the eight-week let-up that preceded his game win in a comparable race to this at the Gold Coast three weeks back. Talented sprinter who thrives over this trip. Big chance to go back-to-back. Matthew Dunn has EMPEROR (6) on song this prep with two wins from as many runs, the latest over 1100m at Ipswich. Tackles better sprinters this time but with a soft run from the inside draw he is capable of featuring in the finish. GIVEMETHEBEATBOYS (1) is back from a six-month spell. Has raced at stakes level 16 times from 17 starts, so this is a soft assignment by his standards. Beaten 1.7 lengths by Mazu this time last year. Big market watch. EN POINTE (7) goes like the wind and can give some cheek first-up from a 16-week lay-off. SUGGESTED PLAY: Fleetwood on top in a testing race for punters. |

MORETON HIRE Class 6 Handicap 1600m
Expecting a strong gallop with Free Carry and Aratiri taking up the running over Just Flying.
ECLAIR AWESOME (7) came with a perfectly timed run to break back into the winner's list last start over the extended mile at Doomben. Has been in work for a while but is holding his form. Steps up to Saturday grade but the ratings say he is up to the task. JUST FLYING (5) appreciated the drop in grade when runner-up over 1820m at this track last time out. Has a solid record at this distance with five top three finishes from seven attempts. Maps beautifully and should have plenty to offer late. LUPINE (6) was most impressive over this course and distance at his latest appearance, coming from near the tail on the corner to just land the prize. Up in class but drops 2.5kgs with an in-form apprentice to steer. In contention again. FACUNDO (4) has been thereabouts at all three runs this prep. Gets to this distance for the first time and the shades go on. Cannot be ruled out. CHO OYU (2) is building a formidable record. Just needs to run a strong mile to test this field. SUGGESTED PLAY: Eclair Awesome each-way. |

STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1400m
A solid tempo on the cards with Spills leading the way. FIRST EMPIRE (12) returned from a 52-day let-up with an encouraging second behind Ten Deep over 1200m at this track a fortnight ago. Strips fitter and will enjoy the extra 200m this time around. Looks a terrific chance to grab a well-deserved win with the blinkers applied for the first time. TEN DEEP (1) has a similar profile to First Empire who she fought hard to hold off when they meet here recently. That run also followed a freshen up and the extra trip is a plus. Gets a positive 1.5kgs weight swing so she is a live chance to win again. SUPERHERO (7) started warm favourite last start at Doomben but pulled up with cardiac arrhythmia so forget the run. Cherry ripe after two runs back and maps nicely from a favourable gate. AMUSEANTES (4) also holds claims. SUGGESTED PLAY: First Empire is ready to win. |

LADBROKES OWNERS PROMOTION QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap *** Weights raised 1kg*** 1200m
Solid tempo anticipated with Youre Not The King heading them off. THE WHEELBARROW (3) also comes off a six-week let-up and is lining up for the hat trick. Hitting the line well in mile races so this is short of his best, but while on the new side he is a definite contender. DR FARTHING (4) won first-up over 1000m then looked in need of more ground when midfield over the same trip last time. Comes right under notice with the aid of the inside alley. BRAVE MONARCH (2) is a promising youngster who is ready to fire first-up following a strong trial win at Doomben recently. SPANISH TREASURE (1) returns. Was super in the GC MM 3YO Guineas when flashing home into third. Class will take him a long way and he should be very competitive. SUGGESTED PLAY: The Wheelbarrow each-way. |
