Race Overview

WARRACKNABEAL   04 April 2026
NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:56 The Marong Family Hotel Maiden Plate 2000m
Two Stroke Baby, Chouxdino and Mega Needs can settle forward in a race lacking a designated leader. The biggest meeting of the year for Warracknabeal, a track where it is generally advantageous to be on-speed near the fence. SHOTARO (9) settled back in the field last start, but was forward in the run the start prior when only beaten a couple of length by a horse who went on to win in town at his next start. Although unplaced last start, Shotaro was only beaten 1.5 lengths and will be better for the run at 2000m. POOR OL' JOHNY RAY (8) jumps sharply in trip after an adequate first-up run and looks suited. Draws ideally in one and the form is better than it reads on paper as he was tested in some good 3YO races last campaign. MEGA NEEDS (3) was plain first-up but improved significantly up to the mile last start and looks even better suited at this trip. CHOUXDINO (1) has fitness on his side and is likely to race in a forward position, which will ensure he gives himself every chance. Stablemate EPOCH (2) has been building this prep, placing at his past two, and also draws well.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Shotaro to win.
2 01:31 Bentley Group Maiden Plate 1000m
Strong tempo from Eighteen Months, Sapphire Reign and Runaway Love. SAPPHIRE REIGN (11) should be peaking now after finishing second over 1000m at Bairnsdale last time at the third run of the campaign. Should camp just off the leaders and is among the leading chances. EIGHTEEN MONTHS (1) resumes from a spell of eight months. Could only manage to finish fifth at the latest run over 1100m at Warrnambool. Placed in a recent trial. Has ability so don't underestimate. MOON DOG DOTTY (9) is a Nicconi filly on debut for the Chow camp. Has come along nicely in her jumpouts and is drawn well. Can make her presence felt. FLYING NIC (7) is another debutant that warrants a market watch.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Sapphire Reign gets the nod.
3 02:06 Warrack Concrete Maiden Plate 1200m
A race that lacks early pressure on paper. FRAM STRAIT (4) wasn't far away on debut last start over 1212m at Geelong, finishing fifth and beaten 3 lengths. There was a lot more depth to that race than here and the blinkers go on, which should spark improvement. If he wants to stay part of the Godolphin team he'd need to go close here. FASHION WORLD (8) ran on well to get up for second at her latest appearance at Ararat over 1100m. Wide draw not ideal, but settles back and winds up late. Will be hitting the line hard. THE LADY VENUS (7) will be better for the two runs back from a spell and gets the chance to improve. In nicely after the claim for Nadia Daniels. YES CHICCI (10) is another likely improver worth including.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Fram Strait to win.
4 02:41 Dale Huebner BM66 Handicap 1200m
Strong tempo with Asawin, Billie Bronx and Got Out The Fence going forward ahead of Shalailed and Damas. SACRAMENTAL (3) is having his first run since August 6, but that is a plus for him given he's had three first-up runs for two wins and a second. Kicked off last prep with a win over 1400m at Echuca. Placed in a recent trial and has found the right race to kick off the campaign. DAMAS (2) crossed from an outside draw last time to stalk the lead before drawing clear to win by 3.5 lengths over 1200m at Warrnambool. In great form and is well-placed to feature again. GOT OUT THE FENCE (5) has won three of his past four and while the only recent failure came in this class of race, he's going that well that he deserves another chance. SHALAILED (1) was out of the money two runs back then again missed the frame last start at Caulfield, but this is much more suitable.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Sacramental to win.
5 03:16 Bet Deluxe BM56 Handicap 1000m
Shimshalar and First Line can be prominent. STEAMY MIST (7) could only manage sixth when resuming two runs back then improved last start but found a couple better over 1000m at Ballarat, beaten only 1.5 lengths. Finds a suitable race and can get the job done. FIRST LINE (8) faded last time to finish eighth over 1100m at Hobart after showing good early speed. Well placed and will take some running down. TANGOETTE (9) is ready to break through after collecting her 4th minor placing in a row last time over 1000m at Terang. Likely improver with strong prospects. MR MARKLE (4) is going well with two minor placings from three starts this time in work. Continued the trend last start when third over 900m at Mt Gambier. Best figures measure up. Sure to run well.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Steamy Mist to win.
6 03:51 Pony Xpress BM56 Handicap 2000m
Mangione should spear straight to the front of the small field. CONVO (9) hasn't run too many poor races of late, which is what made last start a surprise when dropping in grade, but she deserves another chance. READY BY DESIGN (3) was a big drifter last start but ran an improved race, going under by less than 2 lengths, and he's likely to race in a handy spot, which is a plus here. TRIPLE OH (8) is fitter now and placed in 64 grade at this trip last prep. MANGIONE (5) boasts peaks that measure up and deserves safe keeping.p.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Convo to win.
7 04:31 Emmetts Warracknabeal Cup 1600m
Genuine tempo with Black Storm leading the way. The big one of the day, which includes defending champion Angry Skies, who again looks a key player. BLACK STORM (2) might be his biggest stumbling block for back-to-back Cups, coming off a nice win in the Albury Mile on Cup Day. That came after a Bendigo trial win, which proved he had bounced back from the Caulfield flop and, despite the wide draw, he'll be looking to race on speed, which would aid his prospects. ANGRY SKIES (5) only had 1kg more than last year, when he won on a plain run in BM78 grade at Caulfield, but comes into this off a fourth in the Bairnsdale Cup, which is probably superior form. WILD IMAGINATION (4) is a fascinating runner over from WA, but brings some good ratings with him and rarely runs poorly. GOLD BULLION (1) is another newcomer to Vic, previously trained by Waterhouse/Bott, and he looked to move well in a recent trial win. CHARTRES (6) needs to lift, but likes to race on-speed and draws to do so.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Black Storm to win.
8 05:11 Taylors Palace After The Last 0 - 56 Handicap 1600m
Not a great deal of early speed and Our Sassy Lady may be the one that takes it up. GARFIELD (1) could not have hoped to strike a more winnable race than what he finds here. Was placed first-up and while he didn't fire a shot last start, that was up to 62 grade and he drops back to a very modest 56 here. With the fitness gain from those runs and nice middle barrier here, he deserves to be considered the testing material. Very even bunch, the rest, and SOLAR MIST (7) showed something of a return to form last start and might be able to springboard off that. The big negative for him is the wide gate. Conversely, FASHION FIGHTER (5) draws the pole, which presents the chance to race in a forward spot, which is what he done when he placed at Colac three back. OUR SASSY LADY (6) is over from SA and while she doesn't make a habit of winning she's run well in better races than this previous and might be ready to show something after two runs back.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Garfield to win.
