Despite the wide draw High Pins should cross and set a genuine tempo. COGNOSCENTI (1) resumes from a spell and should continue a successful day for the leading Walker/Bergerson stable. He is having his first run in the South Island and was trialled a couple of times up North prior to trekking to this track. He meets an even field, and with Bruno Queiroz in the saddle, he should go close to taking this out. ELEGANT EXPLOSIVE (9) was disappointing as the favourite here nearly 3 weeks ago when having a good run in transit, but failing to finish her run off as expected. She is better than that and is worth another chance. Each way value. RUBICON REIGNS (10) battled away fairly well when finishing fifth fresh up at Timaru, and he usually improves with racing. His only win came over this trip, and with some luck from a wide draw, he can figure in the top 3. EIGHT LUCKY PRAWNS (3) has not had all the luck in the world since relocating to the South Island. He was fourth here from a wide gate 12 days ago, and with the right run, he can win this. SUGGESTED PLAY: Cognoscenti can win this fresh up, and Eight Lucky Prawns is the each-way value.
