Solid tempo anticipated with Santa Monica Beach and Calypso matching motors. SANTA MONICA BEACH (10) had been racing consistently with three minor placings on end prior to finishing fourth most recently over 1500m at Funabashi. Back to the track at which he finished third two runs back. Has never been out of the money in five starts here, including a win. Among the leading chances. CALYPSO (9) last appeared on March 20 when a good fifth over 1400m at this track, beaten 2.5 lengths. Now under the care of new trainer Shinobu Hasegawa. Has found a suitable race. RHEIN STRYKER (6) finished out of the money two starts back then he got a long way back and was beaten 3 lengths when fifth in a 1500m contest at Kawasaki five days ago. Nicely placed to get the prize. AIR SHALLOW (7) pushed forward from a wide draw last time out and was prominent for a long way before fading to finish fifth over 1400m at this track. Can feature in the finish.
