NUM TIME COMMENT
1 11:10 Canadian Club Maiden Plate 1800m
Genuine tempo with Goldfields Grey leading the way. As far as provincial-grade 1800m maidens go, this is one of the better ones. GOLDEN GURU (8) started close to favourite in the Hill Smith Stakes last start and, while he didn't run up to market expectation, he wasn't disgraced. This is a much easier assignment and he looks the clear top seed. He maps well from a middle draw and will get his chance to break through. CASINO SHOWGIRL (9) ran well on debut over 1500m. She'll be better for the experience and looks suited out to 1800m so it won't surprise to see her fighting out the finish. GOLDFIELDS GREY (2) was ridden to hold an on-speed position last start but the early work told later. He's better than that and with a quieter ride he might be able to win. FLAMING EYES (10) and YOUBEEFORTY (7) look the others that can run a cheeky race at bigger prices.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Golden Guru to win.
2 11:47 Sportsbet Same Race Multi Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1200m
Anticipating good pressure with many of these lining up for the first time. Tricky maiden with quite a few first starters. FOREVER A DIAMOND (9) brings the race experience and is working towards the winner's stall, having been placed at her last two starts. She's drawn low and maps to get a cosy run. If the gaps come when she needs them, she can sprint over the top of them and win. HARMONIC DANCER (4) has been beaten as favourite in both of her career starts but there has been merit in her performances. She's drawn awkwardly but she's versatile so Opperman can roll forward or take a sit. She can win. BOLD STARLET (8) has shown glimpses of ability and is better than what we saw last start. Expect her to improve. OAK PARK MADDISON (15) is a likely improver that can run in the money, while JOHNNY THE JET (5) is one at a big price that could sneak into the placings.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Forever A Diamond to win.
3 12:25 Sportsbet Fast Form Maiden Plate 1200m
From wide out Act Natural can slide over and set up a genuine tempo. Is today the day for ACT NATURAL (1), who has been placed in all eight of his starts? He's been close in stronger maidens than this and looks well placed. The only concern is the wide gate but he gets the services of Jacob Opperman, who can give him his chance. RATADASH (12) showed nice improvement between her first and second start and is open to even more improvement here. She's the map horse that can park just behind the speed and be strong late. She's a definite winning chance. ROYAL SCRIPTURE (6) bumped into some nice horses last campaign. He returns here off the back of a solid trial and can run well from a low draw. He's a must-include. STRONG MINDED (18) and BRIMARVI ROSEMARIE (9) have both shown glimpses of ability that will see them win a maiden soon. Both can be included in exotics and wider plays.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Act Natural to win.
4 01:02 Peter Elberg Funerals Benchmark 56 Handicap 2500m
Not a great deal of early speed and Ambitious Creek may be the one that takes it up. A staying race with a few key chances but a long tail. BACK ME UP BENNY (2) is racing well enough to win again in this grade. He's fit and gets in well after the 3kg claim. He can race handy and take some beating. ALPINE ROCKET (3) was plain last start but his best is definitely good enough to win this. He will get a likable set-up from barrier three with Todd Pannell aboard. The senior jockey may make the difference in a race with plenty of apprentices engaged. SMILING ASSASSIN (1) is a prolific winner that was placed in a stronger race. He may be getting on in years but you can't discount him in these SA staying races. Stablemate AMBITIOUS CREEK (6) can run in the minor money if things go his way, while GRINZINGER JOY (4) is an untapped stayer that might be able to continue her emergence up in distance.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Back Me Up Benny each-way.
5 01:38 Piper Heidsieck Champagne Class Two Handicap 1600m
Pace strong with Bad Detective and Magic Princess leading with Urbanise nearby. BAD DETECTIVE (2) pulled up with an issue last time when well-beaten as one of the favourites. His best form is good enough to win a race in this grade and, if the stable has him right, he will be hard to beat. He draws well and can make his own luck. UNPRAISED (6) drops back in grade after a couple of OK efforts in stronger city races. She maps to get a lovely run and will be finishing hard with no weight on her back. URBANISE (7) is capable of winning this, albeit she is mixing her form so you must take her on trust. MELLIFLUENT (1) is an improving gelding that must be included as a top three chance, while MAGIC PRINCESS (8) doesn't win out of turn but can sneak into the minor money at a big price so it might pay to include her in exotics.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Bad Detective to win.
6 02:52 San Remo NMW-LY Handicap (Benchmark 64) (Heat of Sportsbet Restricted Series) 1800m
Expecting Bit Of A Rebel to take up the lead at a genuine tempo. A few different form lines converge in this middle-distance contest. LOMAX (5) is an interesting runner if he lines up after tackling a stronger race on Saturday. He was poor there but he did run well in a much stronger race at Murray Bridge before that. It's been a year since he won a race but if he replicates his best form, he's the one to beat. COLLATED (2) is progressive and won well last start. He's got a handy claim and can roll forward from the wide gate to race on or near the speed. He's got more upside than most and he will probably end up being the best horse in the race. He can win. TOWER OF TUSCANY (8) has been freshened up but looks ready to peak after a couple of minor placings. Play each-way. There has been a bit to like about the recent runs of both I LOVE THIS SONG (12) and UTAH (9), who can go into exotics.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Collated to win.
7 03:32 Sportsbet John Letts Cup 1800m
Solid tempo likely from Air Assault and Sir Kingsford. The Listed feature has attracted a strong field and you can make a case for why every runner can run well. AIR ASSAULT (1) is the class. He led, controlled and won this race last year and he might be able to do the same again. He brings winning form, having captured the Gawler Cup last start and it was one of his better wins, given he showed versatility by coming from off the speed. He's the horse to beat. SAV ON ICE (4) has been mixing his form this campaign but his best is good enough to win. Any rain in the lead-up or on the day will aid his chances. PROMISES KEPT (6) was solid first-up over 1600m and is a likely improver up to 1800m. He might need one more but he's a top-three chance on his better form. DARKNCONFIDENTIAL (9) is flying and deserves to be considered a chance in this tougher contest, while SIR KINGSFORD (2) looks well placed back in SA and can go close.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Air Assault to win.
8 04:17 Aceit Transport Solutions C,G & E BM 62 Handicap (Heat of Sportsbet Riziz Series) 1200m
Solid tempo with several going forward headed by Conni Island. THREATENING (3) has made a very good impression since arriving in SA and looks well placed to win again. He's shown a sharp turn of foot at both recent runs, including last start where he got back to near last and rattled home late to run third. He draws well and drops back to 1200m here. If he's within striking distance, he's the horse to beat. ROCKTAGON (13) showed versatility to lead last start when sticking on to run second. He's drawn well so young Potter will have options. He can feature for sure. THERE GOES MY HERO (2) got back and ran home very well first-up. His second-up record is brilliant so he must go into calculations. TOTTORI (10) could be ready to peak after a couple of runs back from a long spell, while ROB THE BANK (1) is a last-start winner that looks a chance to continue his winning rise.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Threatening to win.
9 04:57 Equipped Group Australia Fillies & Mares Benchmark 62 Handicap (Heat of Sportsbet Viddora Series) 1200m
Strong tempo with Lucky Fortuna, Vallencourt and One Kind leading the way. Looks an open race on paper. MEG'S MAGIC (13) looks well-placed back to this class after three runs back. She held her ground in a race dominated on the speed last start. She may have to concede a bigger start from the wide barrier here but if the track is suiting run-on horses by this stage of the day, she can be finishing over the top of them. On the other hand, VALLENCOURT (6) can put herself on the speed and take some catching, especially with the claim. She looks suited back to 1200m and she looks a big danger. STARTIDE (8) is mixing her form but if she can reproduce the run in similar class two starts back, she's an obvious top three chance. REINE OF NINE (15) might be ready to improve into the placings, while ONE KIND (1) keeps racing well and deserves plenty of thought for quaddies and exotics.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Meg's Magic each-way.
10 05:40 Thomas Farms Rating 0 - 56 Handicap 1050m
Certain to be a strong tempo with Costless, Heaven Rocks and Wadaana leading the charge. Tough way to finish the program but hopefully the punters are well up by this stage of the afternoon. At a price, happy to have something on AVANZO (16) who has built a decent record since joining the Rutten stable. She's shown glimpses of her best in three runs this preparation and might be ready to peak. The wide draw is a concern but she can run well in an open race. BROOKLYN BABY (10) is a newcomer to SA and can make an immediate impact here. She's got no weight after the claim so will roll forward and give a sight. DE LUCA (8) can improve sharply and is another worth some thought on an each-way basis. She draws well and maps to get the favours. WHOOPS A DAISY (15) has ability but her winning strike rate makes her hard to back with confidence. Include as a place chance. COSTLESS (5) is another that might be able to sneak into the money at his first run for the new stable.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Avanzo and Brooklyn Baby each-way.
