NUM TIME COMMENT
1 01:32 CORAL COAST CATERING Maiden Plate 950m
Expecting Superstitions to find the lead but there will be plenty of pressure over the sprint course.  COACHMAN (4) has been improving in each of his runs this prep and was runner-up here over this trip 9 days ago, his best effort yet. He has a query on a wet track, but should pick up a win at short notice. BLEDISLOE (1) made up some solid late ground when finishing third over 1250m here last time out. The drop back to 950 is a touch concerning, but a wet track won't bother him, so go again. Each way. SUPERSTITIONS (3) was placed in all 6 starts last prep and will be resuming from a spell that would have done him the world of good. Hard to beat from a good draw. HITCHEDINMANHATTAN (6) fought on strongly when finishing third fresh up here 9 days ago. She strips fitter and gets through wet ground with no problems. Stick with her. KING CANUTE (2) blew out fresh up after setting the pace. He improves with racing and is expected to finish a lot closer this time. Each way.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Bledisloe each way.
2 02:07 RICHARD NEWTON MEMORIAL QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 950m
Anticipating a genuine tempo over the 950m journey. BETTER SHOW (3) is a promising filly who made solid progress last season and will be a lot stronger after her long spell. She looked in good nick at a recent trial and revels in wet ground. The market will be your best guide, but she is more than capable of taking this out. BRAVE EDDY (4) was a game runner-up when resuming from a spell and then ploughed through the wet Mareeba track to score a soft win at their recent picnic meeting. This is not much harder, and with 1.5kg less to carry, he can double the dose. SKOGAFOSS (1) ended his last campaign with a brace of wins on this track. He will be a lot stronger this year and would not be a surprise winner fresh up. Watch the markets closely. GREY POWER (5) has a senior hoop back in the saddle so don't write him off.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Better Show to win.
3 02:42 MAGIC MILLIONS/ROB KOCH MEMORIAL/FNQ UP & COMING STAYERS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1500m
Only a small field with Dominant Rose likely to find a comfortable lead. BRADSHAW (1) has returned in fine fettle this year and has posted back-to-back wins on the picnic circuit. She won't find this much harder and has no problem with a wet track. She will still be on the up with her fitness, and with the aid of a 3kg claim, she can complete the hat-trick. LAST LINE DANCE (2) dropped in class and returned to the winners' circle at a recent Innisfail picnic meeting, scoring by over a length 2 weeks ago. She lands a decent draw, and now that she has her confidence back, she can double the dose. CALL ME HILTON (4) did not fire last time out but is better than that and has Wanderson D'Avila in the saddle this time, who won't let him loaf along early on in the run. Don't drop him just yet. MELANIN (6) has found it hard to win another race but looks to be heading in the right direction, after a last-start second on a heavy track at a recent Mareeba picnic meeting. Hard to beat again. RIVALON (7) is racing well. Each way claims again.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Bradshaw to win.
4 03:22 CENTURY CRANES OPEN Handicap 1500m
Strathcona and Borlotti Beans are both expected to press forward and take it up. STRATHCONA (1) needed his last start here 9 days ago after having over a month between starts leading into that most recent effort. He handles any track conditions and should be among the hardest to beat this time. HERNE HILL (2) was runner-up in the same race as the top pick last time out, and had won 3 on the bounce before that, including 2 on this track. He is also adept on any ground, and can make an immediate return to the winners' circle here. MEDAL (4) was fourth of 4 at a recent Bowen picnic meeting and is still building his fitness. He is normally very consistent and will enjoy the step up from 1000m to 1500m. A good draw, should see him in the finish this time. LOVE ON SUNDAY (6) built strongly to his win at a recent Innisfail picnic meeting 2 weeks ago. He will see out the 1500m better than most and has a chance to break his track duck. BORLOTTI BEANS (7) was runner-up behind the fourth pick last start and is better off at the weights this time. Each way.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Strathcona to win.
5 04:02 GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO. BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 950m
Bring Me To Life should find the front with Boovey and Asambe on his heels.  BRING ME TO LIFE (1) has been below his best in his last couple of starts and is back to a level that saw him win at Innisfail in early March. He benefits from a 3kg claim and only has to have his mind on the job, to bounce back into the money here. THREEBROTHERS (4) will be peaking his fitness fourth up and finds himself in a very modest field this time. He has a good draw, and as long as the track is not too wet, he can figure in the top 3. BOOVEY (7) is resuming from a spell and normally needs a run before hitting his straps. This field is not strong, and he is just the type of horse that can show up when least expected. MAKANUI (5) is better than his last couple of starts suggest, and with a senior hoop replacing an apprentice, he is worth including in all combinations. ASAMBE (3) has yet to fire in a couple of starts since recording an 8-length maiden win at Innisfail in early March. He can do better, so stick with him.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Asambe each way.
6 04:38 RED BERET HOTEL BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 950m
Genuine tempo with Kitema to lead but under plenty of pressure in a keen early contest.  LASER BEAM (10) has found it hard to win another race but is racing consistently, including his last start on a soft track at Townsville when finishing third. Another wet track would help him, and he could be one to cause an upset at decent odds. RECRUITER (1) has been in strong form on the picnic circuit and prefers it when the tracks are rain-affected. This is not much harder, and he will be among the hardest to beat again. KITEMA (2) had won a couple of races on the picnic circuit prior to his last start second here 9 days ago. He has won 4 times on wet ground, and can take this out. SNITZAROO (6) made a welcome return to the winners' circle at Bowen when dropping down in class last time out. His confidence is back, so stick with him on an each-way basis. LISTENTOZOU (4) was put aside after 1 start in Northern Queensland and has been given plenty of time since then to adapt. He showed some talent when trained further South, and would not be a shock winner fresh up.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Laser Bean each way.
7 05:12 LADBROKES FORM GENIUS QTIS RATINGS BAND 0 - 50 Handicap 1250m
Moderate tempo with Lord Power leading the way. BEAR'S BEST (7) was a beaten odds-on favourite at Innisfail last time out when finding 1500m a touch too far. He will be better off over 1250m and can make amends. Follow your money. GROVERS PREDICTION (8) is another who is battling to win another race. She has the pole position and is well placed at the weights after a 3kg claim. She is not without some each-way claims in a field like this. INJADA (4) needed his fresh-up run here 9 days ago after making the move from NSW late last year. The extra 300m will suit him, and he should have no trouble picking up a win in this area at short notice. LORD POWER (1) has raced his way into full fitness and finished runner-up 2 weeks ago at Innisfail. A wet track will help, and he is capable of taking this out.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Injada each way.
