Deakin should lead and control the tempo. DEAKIN (8) is a former import who did enough fresh over a mile before recording a very strong win at Pakenham second up. He was well fancied at Flemington and had every chance when second. He's open to further improvement and getting to 2500m will certainly suit. Can bounce back strongly. Speaking of bouncing back, FIRST IMMORTAL (1) did just that when getting to 2400m at Sandown Lakeside last time out, coming clear for his first win in a while. Shinn sticks from a soft gate and he can go right on with it now. GARACHICO (6) was first up at 2000m but proved too strong at Caulfield and should only be fitter. He's a real stayer suited up in trip. NEWFOUNDLAND (12) continues to race very well and maps beautifully with Jamie Melham taking the ride. LE DON DE VIE (2) has been okay at his past two and could sneak into the finish. SUGGESTED PLAY: Deakin to win.
