In a small field Hero Of The Dawn and Rakiura should comfortably pair off up front. SPEEDY PYE (3) won in this grade at Carnarvon 3 starts back when second-up for her new trainer and she looked to be near that sort of form again there 6 days ago when finishing fourth. She will race close to the pace and will be among the hardest to beat in this contest. HERO OF THE DAWN (6) has not let down as expected in his last couple of starts over 1400m at Carnarvon and may appreciate the return to 1200m as he was successful over that trip when clearing his maiden status. Having Michael Heagney in the saddle is a bonus and the pair merit healthy respect. BENFIN (4) had an excuse 2 starts back when finishing last after being well-found in the market and then showed his true worth with the blinkers on by winning comfortably at Port Hedland nearly 4 weeks ago. Now that the penny has dropped, he should go on with it. BITOVEMU (5) is a veteran mare who has mixed her form this prep but has found her sort of field this time and with the aid of a 1.5kg claim, she has each-way claims. SUGGESTED PLAY: Benfin each way.
