REPUBLICAN PARTY (9) was terrific when pushing Australian champ Leap To Fame for second in the NZ Free For All two back before he was back in the winners' list in the Summer Cup at Addington last time. Has risen to the top of the tree of New Zealand's pacing ranks this season and will be hard to stop. THE LAZARUS EFFECT (5) is a progressive gelding who won the Geraldine Cup last time to give him three wins from his last four starts, the defeat coming when second to NZ Cup winner Kingman in a Group 1. Takes on another big gun this time but he is on the up. ALTA METEOR (8) showed pleasing improvement last time out when runner-up to Republican Party at Addington. He can be competitive again. THE BIG LEBOWSKI (3) is next in line.
