NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:40 Midland Irrigation Maiden Hurdle 3200m
CAPTAIN ELECTRIC (2) turned in a nice effort last time out when he got the prize on the flat over 3600m at Bendigo. Takes on the jumps for the first time but is from one of the state's premier jumps yards and has had a couple of trials and the Heavy track is right up his alley. ARDAKAN (1) finished fourth two runs ago in a hurdle at Casterton. Bounced back last time when he grabbed second at this track. Will thereabouts once more. GRIPPING (4) last raced when he was beaten 9 lengths into fourth over 2100m on the flat at Sandown-Lakeside four weeks ago. Tackles the jumps for the first time. Sure to make his presence felt. TEEWATERS (7) is back to the hurdles after a steeplechase run last start and while he was a never a factor there, it was only his second run since August so he will have taken good benefit from it and can improve. Similar story with CHRISTMAS (3), who's had three runs back and can sneak into the placings.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Captain Electric to win.
2 01:20 Merlin Powering Garage Doors BM115 Hurdle 3200m
Only a small field, but looks to be a race in three. ZINOVATION (3) is hard to knock, winning on the flat two back before making the perfect jumps debut. He'll have taken good benefit from the experience and can improve again, which he will need to. FERAGO (1) did fairly well when he finished third in a at Sandown-Lakeside two runs back. Less effective last time, but that was back to the flat and he looks very hard to beat on his best jumps form on the home track. KARBURAN (2) did a reasonable job when he finished third in a hurdle (3500m) at Casterton two runs back. Less effective last time when 24 lengths away in fourth in The Australian Hurdle (3900m) at Sandown-Lakeside. Deserves another chance back in grade. Out to MASH AND GRAVY (5) as best of the other two. Pulled up in the race won by Zinovation last start. but had trialled well prior and can play more of a role here. CHEROKEE BRAVE (4) next because something has to run fifth.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Zinovation to win.
3 02:00 Carter Group Lafferty Hurdle 3200m
MR WATERVILLE (1) was hailed a new star of the jumps scene when he strolled home in the Australian Hurdle, which followed a couple of good performances here during the carnival. The Flemington run last start, when only beaten 3-3/4 lengths, would have kept him up to the mark nicely. ONGATITI (4) was dominant winning his jumps maiden here then no match for Mr Waterville a couple of days later. Bounced back last time though, beating ANDY WIN (3) who is a rival here. Andy Win bounced out of that to win last time though and he can improve again here. They look to be the three key players. FABALOT (2) is good enough at his best, but you wonder whether he can reproduce that. NASSAK DIAMOND (5) looked a promising hurdler a couple of seasons back but hasn't done a heap of jumps racing of late and comes here off the back of some reasonable flat form.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Mr Waterville to win.
4 02:40 Hammonds Paints Thackeray Steeplechase 3450m
THE MIGHTY SPAR (1) was outgunned by Bazini last start, but that was under 74kg and he gets into this race much better at the weights than what he's done his past couple. This is his best chance all season to get back into the winner's list. GOLDEN GARDEN (3) is a fine jumper who has been relentless in recent runs. Saluted (3450m) at this track two runs back then again got the job done last time (3800m) at Casterton, winning with 3 lengths in hand. The question mark is he missed a run a couple of weeks ago but he looks a real up-and-comer. CASTROFRANCARU (2) missed the placings (3800m) at Casterton two back then improved to wind-up second in The Australian Steeplechase (3900m) at Sandown-Lakeside last start. Will take some stopping. BAZINI (4) doesn't get in as well at the weights as last start, but his tail will be up after rediscovering winning form. MR LINCOLN (6) has been good in two steeplechase runs and rises in grade here but is on the up.  SUGGESTED PLAY: The MIghty Spar to win.
5 03:20 GM Cabinets Maiden Highweight Plate 2350m
Moderate pace with Crackerofanight rolling to the lead and setting the tempo. LILLARD (4) remains a maiden after eight starts but finished fourth last start over 2025m at Cranbourne, beaten 5.5 lengths, but in a better race than this. Found only one better at his previous three starts and couldn't have asked for a better race to break through. CRACKEROFANIGHT (1) has been in great form with two placings in succession, most recently when beaten 4.5 lengths into third over 2000m at this track when he was prominent throughout. Likely improver with strong prospects. GAELIC KIWI (2) hasn't been disgraced his past two starts, albeit beaten healthy margins, but should be nearing peak fitness now and looks a key player. DEVOTED TO YOU (10) has been beaten similar margins - a tick over 9 lengths - her two runs this time in but will be fitter for them and looks suited this trip. SLOMO (8) is back from the jumps after being pulled up last start and while he might find some of these a bit sharp, he has a fitness edge.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Lillard to win.
6 04:00 Michelin Service Centre Warrnambool BM56 Highweight Hcp 2350m
Plenty of runners but a dawdling affair is on the cards. DUKE OF CLARENCE (3) was too good for a maiden field last start over 2000m at this track, scoring by 1.75 lengths in what was a richly-deserved win. Up in grade, but it'd surprise if he didn't measure up given he's at the top of his game. SMILING ASSASSIN (1) knuckled down strongly to get within 3/4 of a length of the winner last start over 2000m at this track. That was only the second run back from a spell so there'd still be improvement to come. SHOGUN EXPRESS (2) found the line nicely last start to get up for third over 2200m at Donald. Among the leading chances. STEP IN TIME (6) ran below expectations last time at Werribee, finishing sixth and beaten 5.5 lengths, but should be ready to fire now third-up. EYES TO ME (9) is also third-up and is up in grade a touch here but will be fitter and draws the inside.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Duke Of Clarence to win.
