GLADIATORS & EYE OTA 3000m
QUID (2) was only worried out of a win late at Trentham 15 days ago, and the winner that day looks to have a big future in this role. The extra 500m will suit him, and he can go one better. CAPTAINS RUN (3) needed his first run back from a spell on the flat at Te Aroha and has been to the Cambridge jumping trials since then. Expect something better here. KAMAAL (6) battled away bravely fresh up at Otaki just over 3 weeks ago. He hails from a renowned jumping stable and will be ready to rumble in this. Use the market as your best guide. PRINCE TURBO (1) will be backing up quickly from a run on the flat at Otaki and has not missed a cheque in 5 starts over hurdles. Watch closely. THE BELVOIR (9) was going to finish third before falling at the last fence at Te Rapa 8 days ago. If he gets around safely, then he is capable of figuring in the finish. Include in all combinations. SUGGESTED PLAY: Quid to win. |

DANNEVIRKE CARRIERS & WOODVILLE SERVICE CENTRE 3000m
HILL OF KINGS (2) has had 3 starts on the flat this prep and won a recent jumping trial at Cambridge. He has been placed in his only start over hurdles, and looks to be the one to beat in this. WHO'S SAM (3) looks to have a future in this role and was runner-up at Trentham 15 days ago when fighting hard all the way to the line on a very heavy track. Stick with him. THE REPUBLICAN (4) was a well-beaten third in the same race as the second pick and will be better for that experience. The extra 500m should not be an issue, and he can figure in the finish again. FAKE NEWS (7) is a 6-year-old gelding making his debut over jumps. He won a recent Foxton trial on the flat over a mile. He is part of the Ray Connors team, who will ensure that he is ready to rumble. Watch the market moves. MR FAHRENHEIT (1) was beaten by a nose at Te Rapa in his penultimate start and only has to run up to that mark to be an each-way threat in this. Include in all combinations. SUGGESTED PLAY: Hill Of Kings to win. |

TE WHANGAI ROMNEYS HAWKE'S BAY HURDLES 3000m
BERRY THE CASH (1) is a brilliant hurdler at his best, and he tuned up for this with a bold run on the flat at Otaki 5 days ago when finishing third. If ready, he will be the hardest to beat. TAIKA (3) did not complete the course at Te Rapa last time out after risking a few hurdles. He was an easy winner there before that, and can bounce back and take this out. HAPPY STAR (4) was so brave when finishing third at Otaki on the flat 5 days ago over 2200m. He only peaked on his run late that day, and will be spot on for this assignment. Each way. SQUIRE (5) could be the next jumping star after scoring at Te Rapa 8 days ago by over 9 lengths. He is well weighted, and the hat-trick beckons. BRUCIE (8) cost himself a closer finish by misjudging a fence late at Trentham last time out. He is not out of this. Each way. SUGGESTED PLAY: Brucie each way. |

BERNIE WALSH ALUMINIUM & GLASS & AWE MCNICOL TRANSPORT 2100m
Genuine tempo with Mugshot, Prince Turbo and Run Jakko Run taking up forward positions. MUGSHOT (5) ran on late to finish fourth fresh up at Otaki 5 days ago. The extra 500m is ideal, and he won't mind the quick backup. Top amateur jockey Scotty Macnab picks up the ride, and he is the one to beat. INVISIBLE SPIRIT (1) was only caught in the shadow of the winning post at Te Aroha over hurdles 3 weeks ago and is more than capable on the flat at this level. Stick with him. Each way. CALL A FRIEND (4) dug deep when finishing second by a short head at Awapuni on the poly track there 3 weeks ago. She has a good record on a wet turf surface and is good enough to go one better. SUPER FLASH (2) is a handy veteran on the flat, and he can be forgiven for his last run at Waverley at the end of April. He has won 4 of his 8 starts fresh up and will be ready to run a big race in this. GRAND PROSPECT (8) kept on kicking for third on a very testing track at Trentham 15 days ago. He is peaking fourth up from a spell, and in this field, he can hold his form. SUGGESTED PLAY: Mugshot to win. |

CODY SINGER MEMORIAL 4000m
SMUG (8) jumped boldly in front at Trentham last time out and won easily. Unfortunately for his connections, his jockey had taken the wrong course, and he was disqualified. He is well placed in this and should set the record straight this time. FOURTY EIGHT (3) did not cope with the quick backup in his penultimate start and then failed to flatter back on the flat as an odds-on favourite at Awapuni on the poly track there 5 weeks ago. He has a chance to redeem himself over steeples for the first time. Follow your money. MUSE (10) finally had some good luck and finished third at Trentham last time out. She is normally a safe jumper and won't lack fitness. Each way claims here. MEANDEEL (5) has been steadily improving with jumping experience, and he should be suited by the bigger fences for the first time. Stick with him on an each-way basis. MR FABULOUS (1) failed to complete the course at Trentham in a tougher field at Trentham last start and will find this easier. Include. SUGGESTED PLAY: Smug to win. |

GLENANTHONY SIMMENTALS STUD HAWKE'S BAY STEEPLECHASE 4800m
WEST COAST (1) is a champion jumper at his best, and he will be nearing that sort of form now after having 3 runs back from a spell. He has been waiting for the bigger fences, and can show us that he has lost none of his brilliance here. Hard to beat. JAKAMA KRYSTAL (2) was well ridden to score a decisive win at Te Rapa 8 days ago, and she should have no trouble with the extra 900m. She has won twice on the track and is ready to take the next step here. SMUG (10) was disqualified after winning at his first time over the steeples at Trentham 15 days ago. This is much tougher, but he has a future in this role and could be too good again. MONT VENTOUX (9) is making his steeplechasing debut after a couple of brave recent efforts over hurdles. He is as tough as they come, and won't let you down. Include in all combinations. LOCHWINNOCH (4) got around safely at Te Rapa and plugged away for fifth behind the second pick in the same race 8 days ago. Place claims here. SUGGESTED PLAY: West Coast to win. |

MACDOUGALLS 2100m
Strong tempo from Towrope crossing from an outside gate, with Timba also pushing up. TOWROPE (9) carried some market support at Wanganui last time out, nearly a month ago, and battled on fairly well to finish seventh. He has been to a jumping trial since then and will have no excuses with his fitness third up from a spell. Hard to beat in a modest field. KWANZA (2) finished second as favourite at Wanganui last start in the same race as the top pick. He looks perfectly placed in this third up, and with Jonathan Riddell in the saddle this time, he can go one better. SAYULOVEMEAGAIN (3) found the testing track in the same race as the top pick, too deep to handle last start. He has been in the money twice before that run, and can make amends in this. Stick with him on an each-way basis. JACKS PRIDE (12) had no luck at Otaki last time out and will be better off with a senior hoop in the irons this time. She has a good draw and is ready to put her best hoof forward here. SWEET ADA (10) ran on from last to finish third at Otaki last time out. Each way claims again. SUGGESTED PLAY: Jacks Pride each-way. |

FARMLANDS PAHIATUA & MITCHPINE 1600m
Solid tempo with Odysseus leading from The Ugly Sister and Shawshank. FLYING CELEBRATION (2) ran on too late as favourite for her new trainers at Otaki and finished a game fourth. She had won a trial easily before that, and she is perfectly placed in what is a very modest field here. Hard to beat this time, so follow your money. THE UGLY SISTER (1) won fresh up at Tauranga last prep and has had a recent tune-up trial at Foxton. If she is ready, then she can give this field a big shake. SHAWSHANK (3) made up a lot of late ground to finish fourth at Otaki 5 days ago. He is backing up quickly, which is always a good sign with the Kevin Myers team, so stick with him. OPAWA SCARLETT (4) has had some gear changes since a disappointing effort at Trentham just over 5 weeks ago. She has the ability, and gets her chance to show it here. Don't risk her. SANDOKU (6) has been very disappointing in 2 starts back from a spell. She is worth one more chance in this lineup. SUGGESTED PLAY: Flying Celebration to win. |

HAPPY 60TH SQUIDLY DIAMOND 1600m
Strong tempo with Winewomenandsong and Justadude leading from Zed Bee and Early Times. GO TRIGGER (1) has been game in defeat in his last couple of starts and likes to race handy to the pace, which should be a big advantage on a heavy track here. He has a good draw, and with the aid of a 3kg claim, he can break through for a well-deserved first win. ABANDONMENT (2) battled on bravely to finish fourth 5 days ago at Otaki. The extra furlong is ideal, and a wide draw might be a blessing in disguise by this time of the day. Hard to beat. CRAFTSMAN (3) has had a couple of runs on the Awapuni poly track and was not beaten far in each of them. He will be seasoned enough to handle a heavy track and is ready to run into the money for the first time in his career. Include in all combinations. WINEWOMENANDSONG (8) is resuming from a spell for his second career start as a 5-year-old gelding. His future lies over hurdles, but he did finish second in a recent trial on the flat. The market will be your best guide. BUNDY (9) won a trial prior to finishing eighth on debut at Otaki. SUGGESTED PLAY: Go Trigger and Abandonment boxed up in a quinella and exacta. |
