NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:25 PROMOTE WAIPU 1200m
Anticipating a good amount of early pressure with many of these juveniles facing the starter for the first time. MORETOTHINKABOUT (1) is a colt by So You Think making his first appearance. Three times trialled for a win and a second. His dam has left five winning foals, with More Sundays (6 wins) the most prolific. He has a big chance to win on his debut. BELLE NOIRE (8) resumes from a short spell and was good enough to finish second on debut near the end of March. She will continue to improve with racing and should pick up a win this year. VANBRUGH BELLE (9) has failed to fire in her last couple of starts on the Cambridge poly track and will be better suited to the 1200m here. Her trial form says she has the ability, and she is worth another chance. POPPA DENNIS (2) battled away solidly at Pukekohe 17 days ago and should now be peaking at his third career start. Include in all combinations. BEAT OF THE SUN (3) is on debut and has been thereabouts in both of his trials to date. A wide draw is no help, but any market support will be worth following.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Moretothinkabout could be the one to beat, especially if the money comes for her.
2 12:58 NORTHLAND BUSINESS SYSTEMS 1200m
Cracking tempo with Don't Tell Rachel and Hard Attack leading the way. IRIDESCENT (9) is a locally trained filly who made her debut on her home track here and finished a game third. She had won both of her trials before that and should go close to taking this out. KUDOS (2) won the latest of his 4 public trials before finishing runner-up by a short-head here a fortnight ago on this track. He cops a wide gate this time, but still has to be respected. Each way. MISS SETH (10) ran on late for fourth in the same race as the top pick last start. She strips fitter, and if the gaps come at the right time, she can have the last say. DON'T TELL RACHEL (7) was heavily supported last time out at Matamata on a very heavy track and weakened late to finish midfield. She is likely to find a firmer surface here and can bounce back. Each way. PENTAGON (3) is heading the right way and won't be far away.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Iridescent is the one to beat.
3 01:31 MOUNTFIELD QUARRY 1600m
A strong tempo is assured with Loose Change and Loopy Farooki leading the charge. TEN TO TWO (2) was doing his best work late when finishing fourth fresh up on a very heavy track at Pukekohe 17 days ago over 1400m. He is bred to relish the step up to a mile, and he can improve enough to win this. ASCENSION (8) battled on strongly as favourite when finishing fourth at Te Rapa 4 weeks ago. She is bred to excel over more ground and will be peaking third up over a mile. Watch for her late. Can win. WITH GRACE (7) steamed home late to finish third by a head here 2 weeks ago in a stronger field than this. She has a senior hoop replacing an apprentice this time, and is ready to win at short notice. ARTURA (5) only battled on debut at Matamata over 1400m but will improve quickly once stepping up in trip. He has the blinkers on. Watch closely. LOOSE CHANGE (4) has some each-way claims in this.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Ascension each way.
4 02:12 NORTHPINE MAKING IT TANALISED 1200m
A solid tempo on the cards with Judicial leading the way. JUDICIAL (2) won a trial before being beaten as an odds-on favourite at Ellerslie fresh up 5 weeks ago. He did himself no favours that day when racing too keenly in front and will be much better for that hit-out. On top this time, so follow your money. NIAGARA SKY (6) was also a beaten favourite fresh up after leading, and she too will improve quickly with a run under her belt. She benefits from a 2kg claim and will give the top pick plenty to think about. TONIA'S DRAGON (9) won the latest of 2 trials before finishing third as favourite at Te Aroha fresh up nearly 3 weeks ago. She has won second up in the past and adds to the puzzle. Stick with her. BAD EDUCATION (4) is racing his way back into form and is worth including in all combinations. REPTAK (3) is an each-way chance from a good draw.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Judicial can set the record straight and win this.
5 02:43 NORTHBEAM STRONG STUFF 2100m
A race that lacks early pressure on paper. BOSCH (3) locally trained gelding who has a terrific record on his home track and was back in the money for the first time this prep 2 weeks ago when finishing runner-up. This field is not as deep, and he is poised to go one better. RICHIE'S DREAM (6) settled back from a wide gate here a fortnight ago and charged home too late, finishing second by a nose. She is likely to get back in the running again, but with a very light weight, she can have the last say this time. I'M LULU (7) ran on late for fourth in her first run over a middle distance here last start. She will be at her peak fourth up from a spell and can figure in the top 3 here. FLY MY WEY (1) has a terrific record here and gets his best draw in some time. He is capable of taking this out.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Bosch will be hard to beat, and Fly My Wey, is worth an each-way ticket at odds.
6 03:20 NORTHPINE WAIPU CUP 1400m
Slick tempo with Trigon Lad to lead but under plenty of pressure in a keen early contest. MERCURIAL (1) won a couple of trials before finishing fifth in a 6-horse field fresh up at Te Rapa 4 weeks ago. He will find the firmer surface that he is looking for up here, and a form reversal is on the cards. SAINT BATHANS (2) did not have much luck here 2 weeks ago and has a senior rider back in the saddle this time. His tough run for second in his penultimate start is the guide to use, and he is good enough to take this out. ILLICIT DREAMS (4) is a locally trained mare who has not missed a cheque in 7 starts on her home track, including 2 wins. She was a brave third on this track last time out when setting the pace and could take some pegging back again. REWARD SMILE (6) put in a solid effort for fifth here a fortnight ago and will be spot on with his fitness fourth up from a spell. He is nicely weighted and worth including in all combinations to be safe. FONTEYN (3) normally performs well on this track and could have needed her last start here. She is worth another chance.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Boxing up Mercurial, Saint Bathans, and Illicit Dreams in a quinella.
7 03:55 TANALISED MILE 1600m
A few sit handy but there won't be a great deal of early pressure. MARS (2) maintained her unbeaten record on the Cambridge poly track when scoring there second up last time out 24 days ago over 1300m. She is just as good on a turf surface and won't find this assignment any harder. She is up 3kg, but can repeat the dose. MALDINI (1) is racing his way into full fitness and was only beaten by a head on a very heavy track at Tauranga 3 weeks ago. He has a superior gate this time, and with a kilo less to carry, he can go one better. ALADDIN SANE (4) is a progressive gelding who has been placed in 2 of his 3 fresh-up starts in the past. He is resuming with a recent trial win under his belt, and with Michael McNab in the saddle, he will be ready to give this a shake. NANCY SHE WROTE (8) was beaten but not disgraced in the Listed Tauranga Classic fresh up there 3 weeks ago, and though she has a query on her ability to race at her best in a clockwise direction, she can still figure in the top 4. TIDE AND TIME (6) will be peaking third up. Stick with her.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Mars to win again in a very even contest.
8 04:30 2 AUG - BREAM BAY BUSINESS DAY 1200m
Plenty of pace with Fantastic Smile and Mr Fortrus up front, pressured by Chicago Dream and We Found Love. WE FOUND LOVE (11) was an overdue maiden winner in her penultimate start before having a spell, and is resuming here with an easy trial win under her belt. She cops a wide gate, but is expected to work her way through the grades this year. Use the market as a guide. MR FORTRUS (1) has been handled patiently and is heading the right way with his form. He will be peaking third up, and his next win is not far away. CHICAGO (3) kicked strongly and led all the way to score here 2 weeks ago to clear his maiden status. He has the pole position and could take some pegging back again. FANTASTIC SMILE (4) won his maiden fresh up at Ellerslie and then had no luck off a wide gate there last time out. He cops another wide draw here, but is worth another chance. VESPHIRE (7) is heading the right way with her form and was only beaten by a short-head here a fortnight ago. Stick with her on an each-way basis.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Mr Fortrus each way.
