NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:45 4RACING WELCOMES YOU MAIDEN JUVENILE PLATE 1600m
MATCHA MINT (2) challenged strongly over this distance at Greyville last time but found one too good on the day. She is back against her own sex and jumps from a good draw of two. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her when it matters most. DAISY JONES (1) has produced two decent efforts to date. She stayed on well at the finish last time when finishing second of 13 at this track. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She is a progressive type and she is one of the leading contenders. REJUVENATE (3) set the pace over 1400m on the polytrack last time and tried hard all the way to the line. Has each-way claims. STAMPEDE AHEAD (6) showed some signs of needing her debut run over 1400m on this course last start when finishing third of nine when well supported. Racing fitter has winning claims.
2 01:20 CONGRATULATIONS CRAIG ZACKEY ON YOUR JULY DAY WINNER MAIDEN PLATE 1160m
ICONIC WINTER (2) is better than her last start run over 1000m on this course would suggest. Her debut effort when third over this course and distance catches the eye. She will strip a much fitter horse and may find herself in the winner's enclosure. BABETTE'S FEAST (3) is an unraced daughter of Hawwaam from the Mike and Mathew de Kock stable with Callan Murray booked to ride. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances. HEAVENLY GOOD (7) is a daughter of Heavenly Blue from the Tony Peter stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. If not in need of the run, she should give a good account of herself. COMIC ARTIST (4) is on debut. Trained by Fabian Habib and with S'manga Khumalo in the saddle is well worth considering.
3 01:55 CONGRATULATIONS S'MANGA KHUMALO ON YOUR JULY DAY WINNER MAIDEN PLATE 1160m
ONCEINABLUEMOON (10) should have finished closer to the winner on debut over 1000m on this course. She took time to find her feet and had to be switched late. She would have gained from the experience and will like the rise to 1160m. She should give the males a decent run for their money. LANNYBOY (9) was in need of his debut effort over this course and distance last start. He would have gained from the experience and should make the natural progression needed. ECHOES OF WAR (5) is an unraced son of Rafeef from the Fabian Habib stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. If not in need of the run, he should give a good account of himself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances. BEST CANDIDATE (3) is a two-year-old colt on debut from the stable of Lucky Houdalakis. By Querari from Cantabella. A bold showing is expected.
4 02:30 CONGRATULATIONS MUZI YENI ON YOUR JULY DAY WINNER FM 100 DIVIDED HANDICAP 1160m
MISS ARGONAUT (2) was an impressive winner of her last start over 1000m on the Inside course. She showed a good turn of foot and won a lot easier than the official margin suggests. She has some class about her and she can follow up with another victory. ONE FELL SWOOP (1) showed some signs of needing her comeback run over 1000m on this course last start. She has won twice, finished second once and third once from seven starts over this course and distance. She will strip much fitter and the removal of the blinkers may do the trick. BLIZZARD SNOW (6) was running on well too late when second over this course and distance last time. She gets the services of apprentice Savanna Valjalo who takes 2kgs off her back. Takes on stronger rivals but may be up to the task at hand. KOMATI RIVER (4) ran a better race last start, finishing fifth over 1160m at this track. Well worth an each-way ticket.
5 03:05 CONGRATULATIONS CANDICE DAWSON ON YOUR JULY DAY WINNER FM 77 DIVIDED HANDICAP 1160m
GOLDEN ASPEN (7) rallied late when second over 1400m at Scottsville last time. She has won once and finished third twice from ten starts over this course and distance. She is in a good space and will be mowing down the frontrunners. VALIEVA (2) is better than her last start run over 1200m at the Vaal would suggest. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should pose a threat. BLINDFIRE (8) was an impressive maiden winner last time out, scoring by 1.3 lengths over 1000m at Vaal. Is lightly raced and has plenty of scope for improvement. Looks well placed and she is likely to feature in the finish again. SAIGON SUZIE (4) was unplaced two runs back then again missed the frame last start over 1160m at this track. Well placed here to return to form.
6 03:40 CONGRATULATIONS SEAN TARRY ON YOUR JULY DAY WINNER MR 72 HANDICAP 2000m
DUAL PROPHECY (3) stayed on well at the finish when third of 13 over this course and distance last time. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. Callan Murray takes the ride and he may be able to get the best out of him when it matters most. MOLOTOV COCKTAIL (1) made the expected natural improvement when winning his last start over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He takes on stronger rivals but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand. STORM AHEAD (6) is better than his last start run over 2400m would suggest. His form prior to that outing was consistent. Has to be respected. VOLTE FACE (4) stayed on well when second over 1800m at the Vaal last time. He would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from his wide draw and will be running on.
7 04:15 SUMMER CUP 29 NOVEMBER MIDDLE STAKES 1600m
BACCHUS (2) had excuses in his fair last effort over 1800m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He is at his best over this distance and can notch up his third-career victory. WECANGOALLNIGHT (1) showed some signs of a form return in his last start over this course and distance. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. He should throw out a big challenge to the top choice. COMMAND PILOT (5) was doing his best work late when fifth over this course and distance last time. He has a good draw of four and must be considered. PRESLEY (7) ran a fair race when fourth over this course and distance last time. He has dropped in the ratings and has to be respected.
8 04:50 NEXT TURFFONTEIN RACEMEETING THURSDAY 17 JULY MR 84 HANDICAP 1600m
PRIME VENTURE (12) returns from a spell and is having his first run from the Barend Botes stable. Both his career victories have come over this distance. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena rides and from his good draw of four, he may be the one to beat. EIFFEL TOWER (9) was running on well when second over this course and distance last time. He drops back in class and merits healthy respect. BIRTHRIGHT (3) stayed on well at the finish over 1450m on the Inside course last time. He won his only attempt over this course and distance. He has a good draw of two and he can return to winning form. KING OF NUMBERS (5) ran below expectations last time at Vaal, finishing seventh. Best figures measure up and he can atone.
