FOURTY EIGHT (8) tried his heart out over steeples at Woodville 2 weeks ago when finishing runner-up. He has been tuned up for this assignment with a jumping trial since then, and will give another good sight in a very competitive field. LEITRIM LAD (4) was close up in a good field on the flat at Ruakaka just over a fortnight ago, finishing third. He was a winner in this role here before that, and is spot-on to run another big race. THE COSSACK (1) has been a champion steeplechaser for a long time, but has not been quite at those levels this winter. He is unbeaten in 3 starts on this track, and is too good to be written off, even as a 12-year-old. CAPTAINS RUN (2) produced a big finish to announce himself at this level when winning the Grand National Steeple at Riccarton just over 3 weeks ago by over 7 lengths. He is as tough as old boots and can repeat the dose. NEDWIN (6) was so brave in defeat behind the fourth pick last start. Dropping back in trip helps him, so go again. SUGGESTED PLAY: In an even field, there could be some value to be had around The Cossack.
