A solid tempo on the cards with Complicate leading the way. COGNITO (3) remains unbeaten this campaign, with his latest win being 4 weeks ago over 1800m at Riccarton, scoring by nearly a length. He has also won 2 of his 4 starts third up, and looks like the one to beat. BELLA LUCE (9) showed early speed last time but faded to finish eighth behind the top pick in the same race. She will be ridden more quietly this time and is expected to bounce straight back into form. SIR ALBERT (5) displayed good early pace when resuming, and after racing outside the leader all the way, he was just beaten, finishing second by a nose over 1600m at Phar Lap Racecourse. He has won a trial since then and can go one better here. MASTER MARKO (4) has been out of the placings in his last two runs, including a fifth-place finish over 1800m at Riccarton behind the top pick. He will be suited by a good draw and can figure in the top 3 this time. SUGGESTED PLAY: Cognito can complete a hat-trick, but he won't have it all his own way.
