VIA LUX (1) had just one start last campaign and that was his jumps debut when beaten just four lengths in a maiden steeplechase (2890m) at Niigata. Better for the experience and looks the testing material this moderate field. FOR DEAR LIFE (5) returned from a layoff last time out in a maiden steeplechase (2880m) at Nakayama, finishing fourth when partnered by today's rider S Ishigami. Overdue for a jumps win and will be harder to beat this time. OSTERIA (12) finished fourth when fresh from a spell last start in a maiden steeplechase (2970m) at Hanshin. Has had a lot of chances but nice return and fitter again. CHIC (2) has not appeared since he finished 2.75 lengths away in sixth on the flat over 1800m at Kokura on July 13. Tackles the jumps for the first time. Ideally placed to perform well.
