GOING: G(4)

CANADIAN CLUB ROMAN CONSUL STAKES 1200m

Track: Good 4   Clear (Max: 31)   Rail: +2m Entire. (Pent: 5.27)

Anticipating a strong tempo with plenty of speed engaged. MARHOONA (8) made her first appearance following Slipper success and got the job done against many of today's rivals last start in the 1100m Heritage at this track. Meets those runners on far better terms today. Only has to handle 1300m to be winning again. BEADMAN (1) led the Heritage field and did a good job to fight on and be beaten under a length. Made his name on rain-affected tracks as a two-year-old but flew on firmer ground last time. Sure to be prominent for a long way. GRAND EAGLE (4) had an interrupted passage behind Marhoona a fortnight ago so his effort to get so close was full of merit. Hard to hold out over an extra furlong this time. HIDDEN MOTIVE (5) was used up early from a wide gate in the Heritage. Draws the fence this time and with a softer run may have more to offer in the closing stages. Forget the first-up run of BESKAR (3) at Moonee Valley. Trifecta and first four player with blinkers on for the first time. SUGGESTED PLAY: Hard to tip against Marhoona.

Second-up. First-up after five months tried to lead throughout but was claimed late 3rd of 10 at this track in the LR Heritage on September 27 over 1100m, 0.9 len behind Marhoona with 58.5kg at $3.10. Previously second-up won by 2 len at Newcastle 2yo Mdn-Sw April 26 over 1250m on a rain affected track defeating Swag with 57kg at $1.35. Brave last time and with added fitness can give them something to catch.

Might be a surprise packet at big odds with blinkers on for the first time.

Second-up. First-up after seven months favourite; raced right near the speed and boxed on; won by 0.7 len at this track LR Heritage September 27 over 1100m defeating Akaysha with 58kg at $3. Previously second-up 2nd of 11 at Randwick in the G2 Reisling on March 8 over 1200m, neck behind Tempted carrying 55.5kg at $11. Impossible to knock and looks the one again. Successful after a Slipper win which isn't common - can go right on with it.
