GOING: H(9)

THE TELE OTAKI THREE YEAR OLD PREMIER 1400m

Track: HEAVY 10     True

Despite the small field Belzoni, Abbakiss and Swiss Prince can set a strong tempo. SIERRA LEONE (5) needed her first run back from a spell and has shown enough in the past to make the one to beat in this, especially now that the blinkers have been added. On top. SWISS PRINCE (3) is a promising gelding who will be well-suited to the small-sized field. He was runner-up in a strong field at Ellerslie 3 weeks ago, and is the main threat to the top pick. MY FERRARI (2) did not fire at Trentham last start, but did have some excuses that day. His maiden win at Otaki was full of merit, and he can have a say in the finish here. BELZONI (1) is heading the right way with his form and won't have any problems with a heavy track. He can figure in the top 3 again. ABBAKISS (4) has tackled a couple of stronger fields this season, and while being beaten, she has been far from disgraced. Stick with her. ROMILLY BEE (6) will need to improve to be competitive here. SUGGESTED PLAY: Sierra Leone will be hard to beat.

Form hard to fault. Most recently sat on the speed and boxed on steadily 2nd of 8 at Ellerslie on September 20 over 1400m, on a slow track; 1.75 len behind Churmatt carrying 56kg at $9.50. The run before that 3rd of 10 at Wanganui in the LR Wanganui Guineas on August 30 over 1200m, in the wet; 3.5 len behind Platinum Diamond carrying 57kg at $49.80. Doesn't need to improve a great deal to take this out.

Had two starts to date. At very long odds at debut, second last of 8 at this track in LR on July 26 over 1200m, on rain affected going; 21 len behind Platinum Diamond carrying 55kg at $51.10. Second-up second last in a small field at Woodville on August 17 over 1100m, on a wet track; 3 len behind Landman carrying 52.5kg at $21.70. More improvement needed to be competitive.
