NUM TIME COMMENT
1 02:20 Race 1 1000m
MOUNTAIN TOP (1) sets the standard after resuming with a sound second here, beaten a length and a half by Promessa Reza, and the drop back to 1000m looks far more suitable than the 1200m failure two runs ago. SKIP STONE (6) is the immediate danger, having finished fourth in that same Promessa Reza race after a placing the start before, though he has had six chances and still needs to find a stronger final 100m. PERFECT NIGHT (2) has placed twice from three starts and her two attempts at this distance have both produced placings, so she has the right profile to rebound from a fair fifth. SUDARE (10) brings the best near-miss, beaten half a length two back, and his latest fourth was sound enough, but he has drawn wider and the 1000m remains the test.
2 02:50 Race 2 1200m
SCANDAL GIRL (1) sets the standard after going under by only a length and a half to Kikotsu at Mombetsu last start, and her previous fourth over 1000m had merit after she worked home from midfield. She has placed twice from six starts here and looks close to breaking through, although the 1200m still has to be treated as a genuine test rather than a certainty. COSMO BALLAST (5) is the main danger if forgiven for a plain tenth behind Kikotsu, with his earlier third to Shanghai Honey and two placings from four runs at this track and distance giving him a clear rebound case. RIC BELLA (4) must improve on her eighth to Naranga, but the close second to Banshee Harpy two runs back keeps her firmly in the mix. CLAY PHANTOM (8) has not finished far enough away to dismiss and was only just over three lengths from Sobrina Forte two runs ago.
3 03:25 Race 3 1200m
SWINDLE (4) sets the standard in a compact 3yo C4 at Mombetsu. He was favourite when fourth behind Mana Moana here two weeks ago, beaten five lengths, and the fact he worked home well keeps him high in calculations, particularly with solid track-and-distance place figures. DR AKIYOSHI (7) is the main danger after finishing third in the same race, beaten three and a half lengths, and he has the recent head-to-head edge over Swindle, though he was safely held. MISS KANOYA ROSA (1) was second there at generous odds and beat both of those rivals, but she still profiles more as a place runner after being beaten over 15 lengths the start prior. RIC STARK (5) needs to rebound from a plain ninth over 1000m, yet his previous fourth keeps him in the wider mix.
4 03:55 Race 4 1700m
MEISHO YAMAFUJI (7) sets the standard in a race where recent Mombetsu form ties several key chances together. She has placed in both starts, was near the top of betting when third to Sarang last time and now gets to her third run in the campaign for the leading stable and rider. SHAA (3) is the main threat if he can recapture his run two back, when third to Best Luire, but his latest eighth behind Sarang was plain and the winless 18-start record remains the obvious query. ACTIVE TAILOR (6) has to rebound from a heavy last-start defeat, yet the class drop and returning rider keep her in calculations for a sharper run. BUBBLY DASH (5) brings the best immediate result after finishing second to Sarang at long odds and has prior Mombetsu 1700m wins, so he is a genuine danger.
5 04:25 Race 5 1000m
KNIGHT SPIRE (3) brings the clearest recent profile, having won here over 1000m two starts back before finishing second to El Viento Sopla at Mombetsu, beaten five lengths, while still holding an edge over Yamatono Kaze from that latest meeting. YAMATONO KAZE (1) is the main danger, a track-and-trip winner who was third in the same race and had won his start prior, so the form is honest enough to turn this into a genuine contest. DESERT EAGLE (9) is harder to line up after one poor debut run, but the fact he was a well-supported favourite then keeps him in calculations fresh. CHOGOLISA (4) has not been far away and her latest closing fifth gives her a solid place-and-upside profile.
6 05:00 Race 6 1000m
LUNA NUOVA (1) sets the standard on recent consistency, having placed at both Mombetsu runs this campaign and come off a second to Sakura Stream when beaten two lengths as the well-supported favourite. The drop from 1200m to 1000m is the main reservation, but the draw and rider combination are positives. GREASE (8) is the clear danger after winning here over this trip, and her track-distance record gives that form substance. FORCE TRANQUILLE (9) brings different formlines from Sapporo, though recent margins and the sharp distance change leave queries. HARETAHINI (2) has genuine place credentials through her Mombetsu 1000m record.
7 05:35 Race 7 1000m
YUI GANESHA (6) is the top pick despite finishing fifth behind Excellen Winner at Mombetsu last start, as he worked home fairly from an unpromising position and his prior fourth behind Macalas ties in well with key rivals. He has already won at this track and distance and gets the rider back who has won on him, which gives him the right profile in a competitive 1000m contest. UNA TO LION (2) is the obvious danger after missing by a long neck here a fortnight ago, and his closing effort was stronger than the market expected. FICUS LYRATA (8) brings the cleanest last-start placing, beaten a length by Sarasa Go Sign, and looks suited third-up, though she is still to win at this track and trip. RIVER JEWEL (9) was close-up in the same Sarasa Go Sign race and again commands respect, but her overall win record keeps her a rung below the top pair.
8 06:05 Race 8 1000m
KOKO LOA (5) is preferred despite a plain fifth over 1200m here last start, as her debut win at Mombetsu by three lengths showed the sharp 1000m profile she returns to now. The fact she was sent out an odds-on favourite that day adds weight to the view she has more to offer back in trip. AFRO KERO (6) brings the neatest recent record, winning here by a length after being beaten a nose the start prior, and her three-start record at this track and distance is hard to fault. SMART WAIN (1) also has a strong track-and-trip case after beating Baby Nonchan by four lengths, though the start prior was much weaker over 1200m. STAR OF VASE (3) drops back from a 2yo Open at Sapporo and has Mombetsu form, but must rebound after being unwanted in the market last time.
9 06:40 Race 9 1200m
IIDE HEROINE (5) gets the nod after a clear career-best at Mombetsu a fortnight ago, winning by two and a half lengths from Virtue at big odds after having run second to Tomoe the start prior. That gives her the sharper recent profile. SATONO FREY (9) is the obvious danger, having justified odds-on support here last start when beating Dujac by just under a length, and his Sapporo run two back was better than the placing suggests at under three lengths from Millennial Pink. FUKU SHINY (3) has the track-and-distance record to stay in calculations, though he was swamped late when fifth behind Craft King and must rebound from a poor run two starts ago. CHARPENTIER (2) is more a place-oriented selection after finishing sixth behind Satono Frey, but she is race fit and not hopeless if the principals underperform.
10 07:15 Race 10 1200m
EMMA DIAMOND (3) sets the standard in a race where the leading chances bring quite different profiles. She was beaten just under a length by Craft King here last start as a short odds-on favourite, but the previous 3yo+ C3 win over Kaseno Force and her two wins and three places from five starts at the Mombetsu 1200m keep her firmly on top. DUNK BAROWS (2) is the main threat after fighting hard when third, beaten just under a length, and his record with Takafumi Hattori adds substance. TAISEI SCHALT (4) has the track-and-distance record to rebound, though his last two runs leave him with more to prove than the top pair. SEI GEN (6) was close enough last start to be a genuine minor-money player third-up.
11 07:55 Race 11 1200m
CLEVER BEN (2) sets the standard through consistency and proven Mombetsu 1200m form, with four wins and seven places from 14 starts at this track and distance. She was beaten four lengths as an odds-on favourite last time, so there is a query, but her previous two-length win over Golden Seeker reads strongly for this. DUJAC (5) is the main threat after going under by just under a length to Satono Frey, and his Mombetsu 1200m record keeps him right in the contest despite one poor run two back. PORICKEY (1) has place substance, having finished second two runs ago before a solid fourth behind Satono Frey, though Dujac had his measure last start. UNIVERSAL LOVE (6) is improving off a close fourth, but the distance record is still a concern.
12 08:35 Race 12 1000m
MILERS DAWN (5) is the top pick after resuming with a decisive 3yo+ B4 win over 1000m at Mombetsu, scoring by two and a half lengths and confirming her liking for this course and distance. The step into this B3 is the test, but her record here gives her the clearest upside. KIA KIA (11) is the hardened danger, bringing consecutive 3yo+ B4 wins and an excellent Mombetsu 1000m profile, so she sets a strong benchmark for reliability. SAYURIBANA (8) has been beaten a nose and a neck in two runs back and owns a perfect top-three record at this track and trip, though being rolled as a prohibitive odds-on favourite last start is the small knock. ROARING FLAME (12) appeals as the next best after closing off into fifth, beaten just over two lengths.
