Race Overview

YARRA VALLEY   22 February 2025
NUM TIME COMMENT
1 01:36 Coopersmith Group Maiden Plate 1000m
Pace genuine with Free To Play and Filine pressing hard closely followed by Ilovediamonds and Evil Lover. First-starter WATCH CAPITAL (7) is an interesting runner, though. Won a Bendigo jumpout in January and earlier this month looked sharp in comfortable on-pace trial win at Colac and is drawn to advantage in the inside alley. You'd think he'd break the maiden early in his career. EVIL LOVER (11) hasn't drawn quite so well, but is a reliable performer who can expected to be amongst the money. ILOVEDIAMONDS (9) has run well at two starts to date when hard in the market and will be better for those outings. ANTICIPATION (10) did nothing last preparation in NSW but has to be respected in her return.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Watch Capital.
2 02:11 V&B Constructions Maiden Plate 1200m
Moderate pace only with Bron leading Manhattan Lane. DARTH INVADER (4) struck a hot race at The Valley on debut and there was probably no shame in the six-length margin behind Loving Gaby's daughter Just Like Gaby and Star Rapper, who won't be a maiden for long. HEAT OF THE NIGHT (9) found her way into the placings a couple of times in her debut prep, will be better for those experiences and has been jumping out well in preparation for the return. MADAM EXCELS (10) improved from the debut to second-up run and is presented with options from the draw. BRON (7) was dealt no favours at the barrier draw, coming up with 11, but should be ready to fire with two runs under the belt.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Darth Invader to win.
3 02:46 Mark Leonard Plumbing Maiden Plate 1950m
Moderate pace only with Smartset leading Saint Winifred. SAINT WINIFRED (9) hasn't finished further back than fourth in five runs this campaign, most of them in races that had a touch more depth than this. Has experience at this track, including a couple of placings, and the gun draw (five) is just the icing on the cake. BILLY THE BRUTE (2) has always shaped as this trip would be right up his alley and the fitness gained from two runs back should have him in the firing line. SMARTSET (4) has been up for a while but has been around the mark in recent starts and is a must for exotics. DEELER (1) is in the same boat but has to overcome the outside gate. RIBBLE VALLEY (8) drops in trip but should be able to settle close from gate three.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Saint Winifred to win.
4 03:21 Intraceuticals 0-58 Handicap 1950m
Gift Of Oratory should lead but there are a few other speedy types who can keep him honest. EASY TURN (9) ran a respectable race first up in BM64 grade at a distance short of his best and then improved up in trip and down in grade last time out. It looks the right build up for a race of this class and trip at his third run for the prep. GIFT OF ORATORY (2) is also third-up and continued the consistent formlines of last preparation with two minor placings and looks sure to be around the mark again, despite the potentially tricky barrier. THIN RED LINE (4) is a dour type who has been crying out for this trip. ELOPED (10) was good winning last start, but in easier grade than this and will need everything to go right from the wide alley.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Easy Turn to win.
5 03:56 Shades of Pink Diamond BM58 Handicap 1500m
There should be a bit of pressure with Rebels and Eskimo pressing forward in advance of Battlespace and Queen Beira. REBELS (4) looks beautifully placed here after a couple of respectable runs in Class 1 grade, the latest at Moonee Valley, when only beaten 3.8 lengths. Gets well in after the 3kg for a young jockey who had made a good start to her career and is presented with a favourable alley in three. ESKIMO (1) does have to lump 63kg but comes here off a Moonee Valley placing in BM64 grade and had been good at his previous two runs as well. COSMIC COCO (2) strips fitter after two runs from a spell and gets every chance to play a key role from gate two. QUEEN BEIRA (10) needs to be respected after her last start win but that was only win No 2 from 18 starts so now faces the challenge of stringing together two in a row.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Rebels to win.
6 04:31 SGS Logistics 0-58 Handicap 1000m
Solid tempo with several going forward headed by Three Penny Opera. JUMPING POWER TWO (2) lost his way a touch late last year but saluted when down in grade at Burrumbeet on New Year's Day, which has really turned his form around. A repeat of the last-start third placing, significantly at this track, would have him right in the firing line again. STIRRUP (11)is a veteran who is a dab hand at running third and is again in the mix. TRIUMPHANTLY (5) ran second to I Wish I Win in a Pakenham jumpout recently and took that form into his first-up run at Woolamai, where he won by 10 lengths. Harder here but he's at least going well. KAYGEEBEE (1) resumes here but has won a couple of recent Cranbourne jumpouts and is a first-up winner previously.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Jumping Power Two to win.
7 05:11 Mounting Yard Diamond 0-58 Handicap 1200m
A keen contest with Fugacity and Climate Change leading from Albanian Bay. DANERICH DAN (2) made a good return earlier this month when second at this track. That's now three minor placings and one win from just five starts at Yarra Valley so no reason to think he won't be around the mark once again. CLIMATE CHANGE (8) has been outclassed his past two but was a good second three back and was far from disgraced at Moonee Valley the start prior. Should measure up here. MATTEI (3) needs to lift on recent starts but there is talent there and gets the draw to give him the chance to return to form. SPORTS CHOICE (11) is faced with a different scenario to the last-start win over Danerich Dan, but had run well the start prior too and can again figure.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Danerich Dan to win.
