Magnastar has good early speed and can set a decent tempo. TEXAS (5) has recently joined the Kevin Myers stable and is having his first run on the West Coast circuit. If he can repeat his Ellerslie win in the spring, then he would be too good for this lot. He has a good gate and is perfectly placed at the weights. On top. DIMAGGIO (1) has been running on strongly as usual in his last 3 starts, and with the right run into the race, he can have the last say and break his win drought. MAGNASTAR (3) is heading the right way this prep and fought on bravely to finish third at Omoto 3 days ago. Stick with him for all top 4 combinations. ON SONG (6) did not do much at Omoto on Sunday, but will have the blinkers on this time, and from the pole position, he should not be risked. TO CATCH A THIEF (8) faded out after having a good trip on Sunday, but that was his first run since November 15. Don't sell him short from a good draw. Each way value. SUGGESTED PLAY: Texas can win this fresh up, and To Catch A Thief is worth considering at odds.
