GENE KING (11) closed off strongly last start to get up for second, beaten one length, over 1600m at Niigata. Should settle just off the speed despite the draw. Best form puts him right in this. RED STINGER (9) returns from a layoff of four months. Worth noting he filled a minor placing when returning from a spell last prep over 1500m at this track. Strong chance to kick the campaign off on the right note. BLACK JADEITE (10) is a promising type who hasn't raced since finishing 0.9 lengths away in fourth over 1400m at Tokyo on May 23. Has a strong fresh record including a win and two minor placings. Winning claims on best figures. HOKIBOSHI (2) raced on the speed last start and battled on well but found one better over 1600m at Tokyo Dirt. Will give backers a great run for their money.
