HELENSBROOK PROPERTIES/TEMUKA TRANSPORT 1600m
A solid tempo on the cards with Jot Down leading the way. UNWOKE (2) resumed from a short spell and finished a narrowly beaten third at Riccarton 11 days ago over 1400m when hitting the line hard. The extra furlong is ideal, and is a slightly weaker field, he can take this out. FAH RONG (1) has raced his way into some good form and has been a lot stronger this prep. He is likely to settle back again, and he will be running on late as per usual. The wetter the better, and with conditions to suit him, he can take this out. MOOR (9) has put together a couple of sound runs this prep and will relish getting out to a mile for the first time. He has a home track advantage and won't be in this grade for much longer. CAMBALACHE (6) did not do much in his first couple of starts at the end of last season. He looked a lot better at a recent trial, and his stable seldom trek their team down these parts without claiming some of the major prize money. DANIELLISH (11) has been a touch dour, and with a positive ride early on, she can figure in the top 3. SUGGESTED PLAY: Cambalache and Daniellish are both worth an each-way ticket. |

BOTTLE "O? MOSGIEL AND HILLSIDE ROAD 1200m
Moderate pace from Swoomee Swan taking it up with Momento and Billy Adams on her back. TAIHORO (1) had a couple of starts in the South Island last year, and ran his best race fresh up here on a heavy track when finishing second. He will be a lot stronger now, and from a good gate, he can settle close to the pace, making him the one to beat for us. BILLY ADAMS (2) was well supported when finishing well back on debut at Tauherenikau in the spring. He has since joined the local Steven Prince stable, and despite a wide gate, he will be ready to rumble fresh. BRUTAL RIFF (5) won a recent Ashburton trial very handsomely, and his stable has a terrific record when trekking their team to this track. He will be well found in the market and hard to beat. LADY MELL (6) made an encouraging debut at Gore, and then only battled here last time out just over 8 weeks ago. Stick with her in this field. RED MOON RISING (4) has run his best race on a good track. He can't be totally ruled out of a top 4 finish here. SUGGESTED PLAY: Brutal Riff each way. |

EDINBURGH REALTY/PETER LYON SHEARING 2200m
Not much early pressure but Love Leigh, A Mandarin and Caffeinated can take up forward spots. KINDLING SPARK (3) has needed both of her runs to date, and she hit the line strongly when finishing fifth over this trip at Ashburton, and she will be dropping down a class for this. Hard to beat. MISS ENZED (4) peaked on her run when resuming here in February, and then improved sharply to finish second by a head at Riccarton 11 days ago. She has a good chance to upgrade her modest track stats. Each way. PULL THE PIN (8) will find this easier than her last couple of starts over a mile, and she will also appreciate stepping out to 2200m for the first time this prep. Each way value from the pole position. LOVE LEIGH (10) ran a much better race when running on strongly to finish fifth here just over a fortnight ago. The extra 600m is the key here, and she has solid each-way claims. KOYAMA (2) is always running on, and if the track becomes a bog, then he is always worth including in all top 4 combos. SUGGESTED PLAY: Kindling Spark to win this. |

HAWKESWOOD MINING AND WALTER PARKER MEMORIAL 1200m
Unusual Affair and The Fed Express to take up the running at a genuine tempo. BOSS 'N' HIGHHEELS (4) was badly in need of her fresh run at Ashburton just over 3 weeks ago. She had won a trial before that and should be spot on with her condition now. She showed enough when trained in the North Island to say she will pick up another win at short notice. LINARA (1) has found it hard to win another race, and has continued to edge closer to another success in her 3 starts since relocating to the South Island, including her last run here 15 days ago when finishing runner-up. Hard to beat. THE FED EXPRESS (5) has been disappointing in both of her starts this prep, and he should now be ready to show some good form now. Include in all combinations. MININJAGIRL (10) was narrowly beaten here when resuming, and is normally just as sharp second up. Stick with her at some good value. SUGGESTED PLAY: Boss 'N' Highlands to win this. |

E.L. MOYLE MEMORIAL WITH GREEN ISLAND GRIZZILIES 1400m
Genuine tempo with Elegant Explosive leading the way. SUPER SINCERE (2) returned to winning form in style when scoring by well over 2 lengths at Ashburton. She remains in the same grade and will only carry an extra 1.5kg. With any luck from a wide gate, she can repeat the dose. ENDEAN AFFAIR (11) has been mixing her form, but was not too far from the winner here last time out when hitting the front early in the run home. Stick with her on an each-way basis. EX AYE (12) can be hard to catch and was a beaten favourite at Riverton a week ago. He can secure a cosy run early on from a good gate, and he is worth another chance. ELEGANT EXPLOSIVE (13) just battled last time out when expected to do better here last time out in a similar field. She is down in weight, and she is worth including. SUGGESTED PLAY: Endean Affair each way. |

MOSGIEL TAVERN BEAUMONT PUBLICAN'S CUP 1500m
Plenty of pace from the outset with Willis and O'riordan leading the charge. O'RIORDAN (8) showed a lot of courage when fighting off all challengers to win at Riccarton 11 days ago. She is as tough as old boots, and though she is up in class, she does drop 3.5kg. Stick with her on top again. CHAMPAGNE LINDA (7) has not won for some time, but has been seldom far away, including her last start here when finishing fourth by just over a length. She has a superior gate, and is an each-way chance again. INFLAMED (1) has been close up in some tougher fields recently, and she has a good record on her home track. Stepping up from 1200m to 1500m will suit her, and she can figure in the top 4. WILLIS (2) went a huge run at long odds in the G3 White Robe Lodge Stakes over a mile last time out. He is much better placed under these conditions, and can take this out. THE HANGOVER (4) did not cop the heavy track at Riverton last week over 2000m, and dropping back to 1500m is the key for this gelding. Don't drop him just yet. SUGGESTED PLAY: O'Riordan can win again. |

ENTAIN/NZB INSURANCE PEARL SERIES 1600m
Jikon and Mamaea will press forward in a keen battle for the lead. LIFE OF RILEY (5) has been a beaten favourite in her last couple of starts, but she is far better than that. She will find this company more to her liking, and is likely to secure the run of the race from her good draw. If the rails are playing fair, then she can take this out. MAWKEB (2) made up a stack of late ground when finishing fifth here last time out. She cops another nasty draw, but if the gaps open up at the right time, then she can have the last say. Stick with her. WARRIOR OF WAR (9) built her form nicely to score a well-deserved win by a head at Riccarton just over 3 weeks ago. She revels in wet ground, and she has the scope to take the next step immediately. OCEAN BOULEVARD (10) was beaten but not disgraced in the Southland Guineas nearly a month ago. Stepping out to a mile will suit her, and she can improve enough to figure in the top 4 here. MAMAEA (1) raced back into form at Riverton last week, and dropping back to a mile should not be an issue. Stick with her. SUGGESTED PLAY: Life Of Riley can win, and Mawkeb will also be right in the finish. |
