Strong early tempo with Lean Eagle driving across from the outside gate, while Sheez Marvellous and Candlelit boot up underneath. NORTHERNONTAP (3) was a beaten favourite fresh up on this track a fortnight ago, finishing fifth after working hard from a wide gate. He gets a nice swing in his draw this time and also slides back in class. He won his maiden on debut by over 5 lengths and is quick enough to take them all the way this time. CANDLELIT (1) has left a Sydney stable and is resuming from new local trainer Steven Royes with a recent trial win under his belt. A 3-kilo claim will make him among the hardest to beat in this. LEAN EAGLE (7) changed stables after a trial win last year and made a winning debut at Cairns just over a fortnight ago. He raced greenly that day and will be better for the experience. Ryan Wiggins sticks with him and so do we, despite a wide gate. KIHI (5) ended her last campaign on a winning note and repeated the dose here fresh up 2 weeks ago when letting down strongly to arrive just in time to score by half-a-length. She has won second up in the past and can win again. SUGGESTED PLAY: Northernontap to win.
