CELEBRATING KYLIE WILLIAMS 1200m
No surprise if the debutants played a key role in the tempo of the race with little speed on paper. NICCITA (5) has put in big efforts in both of her starts to date in far stronger company than what she meets here. She has some richer assignments ahead of her this spring if she can measure up in this field, and for us, is clearly the one to beat. BALTIC BOOM (1) was a beaten favourite on debut as a juvenile earlier in the year, but his trial form all around that effort is that of a horse that can make his way through the grades once he puts it all together. TRICORY (6) has learned a lot in each of her 2 career starts, and having Lisa Allpress in the irons is always a bonus. With luck from a wide gate, she can have a say in the finish of this race. MIDNIGHT OAK (7) has been showing promise with her racing well spaced out. She is back from a freshen-up and is worth including in all combos. MISS THUNDERDONK (8) was put aside after being beaten as the favourite on debut at Riverton where she showed early pace to lead that day. She is stronger this season and can do better. Include. Solid tempo expected primarily from Misty Blue and Iceland Poppy. TRICORY (11) has been thereabouts in each of her 2 runs to date, and as per usual the Terri Rae stable runners are always well supported in the market. She cops a tricky gate but is good enough to take this out. FAST LIKE THUNDER (1) has finished runner-up twice since joining the Amber Hoffman stable that spends most of the time on the beach to get fit. He is not far off a well-deserved win and can get the job done this time. THEONEWEKEPT (2) won a trial here before producing a couple of solid efforts since resuming from a spell. The key here will be Lisa Allpress replacing an apprentice, and his first win is not far away. Follow your money. BALTIC BOOM (10) has been trialling up strongly for his return to the racetrack and he will be ready to rumble fresh. Follow the market moves. DELIGHT (7) resumes from a spell that would have done her the world of good, and a recent trial win says she is on track to make an immediate impact fresh. SUGGESTED PLAY: Theonewekept each-way. |

NZB MEGA MAIDEN SERIES 1200m
A solid tempo anticipated with Manoeuvre and Ripicola ahead of Jot Down and Kirchmeyer. NICCITA (10) is also in an earlier race, and whichever race she lines up in, she should go close to winning. Her 2 runs to date at Riccarton have been big efforts in deeper fields, so she goes on top. KIRCHMEYER (3) won a trial before fighting on gamely to finish sixth fresh up at Riccarton on a surface that was too testing for him. Expect him to finish a lot closer this time. Each way. LINDY MAY (5) showed promise last season and resumes from a spell with a recent trial under her belt. Lisa Allpress picking up the ride is a strong lead, and she can figure in the top 3 fresh up. LUMINOSITY (11) has been racing in tougher fields than his since resuming from a spell, and with 2.5kg less to carry in an easier contest, she is ready to put her best hoof forward. MIDNIGHT OAK (12) is a talented filly who has been patiently handled thus far in her career. She is racing off another freshen-up and is well worth including in all top 4 combos. Tulsa Turnaround to take up the running with Shes So Flash and The Peony Xpress close at hand. TULSA TURNAROUND (7) has been edging her way to a maiden win in 3 starts since relocating from the North Island, and a firmer surface will do her no harm. A good draw is a help, and with Matt Cameron replacing an apprentice, he will be hard to beat in this. DREAM ROMANCE (6) was a beaten favourite at Wingatui nearly 3 weeks ago when failing to cop the testing heavy track that day. She is capable of sharp improvement in this. Follow your money. COCOMORA (5) did not have all favours on the Riccarton poly track last start 4 weeks ago and with 2 placings from 4 starts here, she is ready third up to put her best hoof forward. Stick with her. ZASHUBO (8) ran her best race yet when finishing runner-up here last time out, running on strongly from midfield. She benefits from a 3kg claim, and can run in the top 4 again. CHINO'S BOY (1) has won a trial since resuming with a good fourth on the poly track at Riccarton 4 weeks ago. The step up to 1600m will suit him, and he can take this out. HECTOR BLACKS LOUNGE BAR & ECOGLO NZ 1600m
Pace strong with The Cool One and Shooting Stride charging forward to join Trader Inn kicking up. SAILOR SAM (1) proved himself to be a lot stronger this season when leading all the way to score fresh up by well over 4 lengths. Now that the penny has dropped, he can take the net step immediately. HONOR MISSION (9) has hit the line hard in each of his 2 starts since being bought out of the North Island at the start of the season. She is looking for more ground than a mile, but she can have the last say here. THE COOL ONE (4) will be peaking third up from a spell, and the step up from 1200m to 1600m is ideal. Expect him to race on the pace, and be among the hardest to beat. GOTA HUNCH (3) finished near the rear of the field last time out, but was only a length from the winner over 1400m at Riccarton-synthetic nearly a fortnight ago, and getting back to 1600m will suit him. If he gets any sort of run from a nasty gate, then he is well worth keeping safe in any top 4 combos. SHOOTING STRIDE (10) has turned a corner in his last couple of starts, so stick with him. SUGGESTED PLAY: Sailor Sam can win again. |

PHAR LAP CENTENNIAL 4 OCT 1600m
Speed assured from Fast Impact, Sebastiano and Dujour pressing on ahead of Later Boy. ONE TRUE KING (3) needed the run fresh up at Riccarton when well found in the market, but the heavy track that day was no help at all. He cops a wide gate, but will strip fitter, and he should finish a lot closer this time, if not win. FAST IMPACT (1) made the most of a positive ride early when gripping on for a game nose win at Wingatui nearly 3 weeks ago. He will still be on the up with his fitness, and should hold his form now that he has broken through. KESSEY (5) built nicely to an impressive win on the Riccarton poly track 4 weeks ago over 2200m. Dropping back to 1600m is a query for us, but she still needs to be included in all top 4 combos. DUJOUR (11) made ground again last time out on this track and finished a solid third. Her bad luck with the barrier draws continues here, but she is still worth including in all combos. NEW BEGINNING (10) won't lack fitness after racing on the poly track at Riccarton through the winter, and she is also worth top 4 consideration. SUGGESTED PLAY: One True King each way. |

CONGRATULATIONS LEN & LACY 1200m
Tears Of Victory, Steezy and The Fed Express all possess good speed. BRUTAL RIFF (1) was brave in defeat when finishing less than a length from the winner as the favourite fresh up nearly 2 weeks ago on the Riccarton poly track when trying to make all the running. Dropping back from 1400m to 1200m is the key here, and from a good gate, he can take them all the way. ARCTIC JEWEL (4) made progress last season as a 3YO, and she resumes with a couple of trials under her belt. She will be stronger, and ready to rumble fresh up. INTERLAKEN (3) fought on gamely fresh up in his first run since being bought out of the North Island. He has the potential to work his way through the grades this season, and with luck from a wide gate, he can figure in the top 3 this time. DINK (8) made a winning North Island debut at Wingatui nearly 3 weeks ago, and she is expected to measure up nicely in this grade as well, especially with the advantage of the pole position here. LAST HELLO (10) ran a much better race when third here last time out. Stick with her. SUGGESTED PLAY: Brutal Riff can win this. |

LOVERACING.NZ REMEMBERING GREY WAY 1600m
Strong pace with O'riordan, Megalomaniac and Eight Pence pushing forward, closely attended by Cognoscenti and Way Out West. COGNOSCENTI (2) fought on gamely despite needing the run here fresh up just over a fortnight ago, finishing runner-up by a couple of lengths. He generally improves quickly with racing, and if he is not already wanting more ground than 1600m, then he can turn the tables on the second pick in this. O'RIORDAN (3) was well-rated outside the pace when beating the top pick here last start off a brief freshen up. She is still nicely treated at the weights, and can repeat the dose. SMOOTH OPERATOR (1) is a top performer when fit, and he would have taken great benefit from his recent modest effort against the top 2 picks in the same race when resuming from a spell. Expect him to be more competitive this time. WAY OUT WEST (7) was third against most of these last start as the favourite, and she can set the record straight this time, so follow your money. VICTORIAN CHARM (5) has needed racing to get fit, and he is capable of a top 3 finish in this at value. SUGGESTED PLAY: Victorian Charm each way. |

Valstar is the likely leader and should be able to get there comfortably. SALACIA PRINCESS (6) is a limited performer who is meeting a very modest field, and if she can run up to her third place finish at Riccarton on the poly track there in her penultimate start, then she would go close to winning this. VALSTAR (1) has continued to improve with racing, and was only beaten by a nose at Wingatui last time out. She can go one better this time. POPSICLES (9) makes her South Island debut, after not showing much when trained in the North. She has the winkers on for the first time, and is worth including if there is any market support for her. DANIELLISH (8) has had many chances, but did place over this trip last season. She should be getting stronger all the time, and we like her as a value hope in this. GASGAL (5) has been racing a lot more consistently lately, and with the right run, she can figure in the finish again. SUGGESTED PLAY: Daniellish each way. |

Genuine tempo with Lovelock leading the way. BALANCE OF POWER (1) looks to be steadily racing his way towards an overdue win after finishing less than a length from the winner in second last time out at Riccarton on a heavy track. He can settle right on the pace here from a good gate, and the extra 200m can make all the difference. On top. MISS SETH (3) ended up getting too far back from a wide gate at Riccarton 11 days ago, and only battled home. She cops another nasty gate here, but is better placed than last time, so stick with her. HENRY THOMAS (2) will be hitting his straps third up from a spell, and a much better effort is on the cards. Each way value. ANOTHER WON'T HURT (4) was a beaten favourite here last time out when backing up fairly quickly, which may have left him flat. He has more space between runs this time, and should be thereabouts again. Follow your money. ROCA MILE (5) kept on fighting for fifth at Riccarton last start, and he has a good record over this trip. He benefits from a 3kg claim, so stick with him. SUGGESTED PLAY: Henry Thomas each way. |
