ODT SOUTHERN MILE HEAT 1600m
Moderate pace with Eight Pence taking up the running ahead of Blue Goddess and Iffin Doubt Dance. THE ENTERTAINER (1) fought hard all the way to the line when resuming at Riccarton nearly 4 weeks ago, finishing less than a length from the winner in third place. She revels in the wet and will relish the step up to a mile. On top. EIGHT PENCE (6) likes to race on the speed, which can be an advantage around this track, and with the aid of a 2kg claim, he is nicely placed to take them all the way. CHAPINTEEL (7) needed her first run back from a spell, and she normally improves quickly with racing. She slides down in class and has won on this track in the past. Each way claims. AIRPARK HUSTLER (5) tackled some tough fields at Trentham in his last couple of starts, and had no chance there nearly 3 weeks ago when getting too far back in the running. He is better suited to this field and can figure in the top 3 here. LITTLE BUT FIERCE (8) has been racing well and will try a mile for the first time this prep. Include in all top 4 combos. SUGGESTED PLAY: The Entertainer can win this. |

MCCREA PAINTERS & DECORATORS 1400m
Genuine tempo with the speedy Red Label leading the way. KIDS GOT GEARS (1) got the job done in style when winning his maiden at Riccarton 16 days ago, scoring by 2 lengths over a handy type. He has needed time to mature, and now that the penny has dropped, he can go right on with the job. SUPER SINCERE (9) made up a lot of late ground at Riccarton last time out, and she has been given plenty of time to get over that run. She cops a tricky gate, but this field is not strong, and she is worth including in all combinations. RED LABEL (8) led all the way when winning his maiden here on Christmas Eve by 5 lengths. He cops a wide gate, but it may be a blessing in disguise if the track is heavy. Stick with her. SOLAR SAINT (5) built strongly to post her first win by a nose at Ascot Park nearly a month ago. She won't find this much harder, and she has been placed twice from only 3 starts on this course. Go again. GIUSSEPE FERRANTE (14) is been rather plain to date, but he does have it in him to run into a top 4 placing in a field like this. SUGGESTED PLAY: Giussepe Ferrante each way. |

HEARTLAND PRINT 1200m
Tempo strong with Zavision and Rabbit Hole pushing forward. KIRCHMEYER (4) won his latest trial as a gelding for the first time, and he is in good hands to make his debut. A reasonable draw will help him, and if the money comes for him, then he is the one to beat. ZAVISION (14) was a brave fourth fresh up here after winning a trial on this track, and then led up and only faded late on a testing heavy track at Riccarton just over 4 weeks ago. A wide gate might be ok if the track is heavy again, and she should pick up her first win at short notice. RED STAR SOOT (3) made up for an average debut performance with a bold run for second at Riccarton just over 2 weeks ago. He again benefits from a 3kg claim and can go one better. BRUTAL RIFF (16) has been showing promise at the trials, and he was gelded prior to his third placing at his most recent hit-out. Let the market be the best guide. BIG EXIT (9) was rather disappointing at Ascot Park 6 days ago, and maybe the quick backup is just what she needs. Stick with her on an each-way basis at odds. SUGGESTED PLAY: Kirchmeyer can win on debut. |

GALLAGHER INSURANCE 1200m
Good pace headed by The Fed Express, Cool Aza Rene and Moon Goddess, with Champagne Diblu and Steezy close by. ALOTTAGO (1) is a classy gelding who was beaten but far from disgraced when finishing seventh on a heavy track in the G1 2000 Guineas at Riccarton in the spring. He trialled here in the middle of last month, and will be ready to run a big race fresh up. On top. COOL AZA RENE (4) showed a lot of courage when finishing less than a length from the winner in the NZB Airfreight Stakes at Wingatui 8 weeks ago. She is beautifully placed with a 2kg claim and has won her only start on this track. Stick with her. BELLE DU MONDE (6) tried hard when finishing fourth fresh up as an odds-on favourite at Riccarton nearly 4 weeks ago on a testing heavy track. She will be a quick improver second up and should be among the hardest to beat again. MAROKOPA FALLS (7) may not have been suited to a wet track in the NZB Airfreight Stakes on Boxing Day, and she has been given plenty of time to recover from that run. She is worth another chance. STEEZY (9) won her maiden easily at Kumara. Include in combos. SUGGESTED PLAY: Alottago can win this. |

JUICE SIGNS 1200m
Strong pace with Enterprise and Palace Princess driving across from their wide draws. MALMAISON (3) has not won for some time, and is heading the right way with his form since relocating to the South Island arm of the Walker/Bergerson stables. He was less than a length from the winner when finishing third at Riccarton last time out, and with a drop down in class, he is the one to beat in this. BOSS 'N' HIGHHEELS (13) makes her South Island debut from the astute Terri Rae stable, who presented her to win a recent Timaru trial by 2 lengths. She is nicely placed at the weight here and will be ready to rumble. PALACE PRINCESS (7) was back in winning form at Kurow when leading all the way to score by well over 3 lengths. She cops a tougher gate this time, but if she can find the front early, then she will again take some pegging back. VICTORIAN CHARM (2) will find this easier than his last start in the Timaru Stakes nearly 4 weeks ago, and he should be close to his peak fitness third up from a spell. Each way value. SPARTAN (1) shows pace and draws the ace gate.
SAKO (5) SUGGESTED PLAY: Boss 'N' Highheels is one to watch, and Victorian Charm at each-way value. |

HYGAIN STAYERS CHALLENGE 2200m
A solid tempo is anticipated with Islebefine and Rollins kicking up to hold out the next wave. HIGH ROLLER (1) has been mixing his form, and was a solid runner-up as the favourite at Riccarton nearly 4 weeks ago over 1800m when making up a lot of late ground. He will relish stepping up to 2200m for the first time, and he can go one better. ROLLINS (3) has improved since relocating to the South Island, and he followed up his impressive maiden win at Riccarton with a brave run for third there last time out. He will have no trouble with the extra 400m, and a heavy track won't stop him from being an each-way threat again. AVORIAZ (10) fought on well enough when resuming from a spell. She would have come along in her condition with that run under her belt, and she can figure in the top 3 this time. LINED SATIN (8) charged home late along the inside when being beaten by a nose at Wingatui nearly a fortnight ago. Her stable does not trek here often, unless they have a winning chance. Stick with her. UNLEASH THE BEAST (2) is a tough gelding who is always an each-way chance. SUGGESTED PLAY: High Roller can win this. |

VERNON & VAZEY TRUCK PARTS 2200m
ELEGANT LADY (3) was disappointing at Wingatui last time out on Boxing Day and has been given plenty of time to get over that effort. She stays at 2200m, which suggests she has not missed any important work, and with a return to this track, she can bounce straight back into the money. QUINTABELLE (2) let down powerfully to score over a mile at Riccarton when second up from a spell. She has won twice third up in the past, and she should have no trouble stepping up to 2200m for the first time. Stick with her. IFFIDIDIT (1) can't be faulted in her recent form, and she was running on late when finishing second last time out in a similar field. A wet track is no problem, and she is overdue for another win. COURT OF APPEAL (7) caught the eye late over a mile fresh up at Riccarton nearly 4 weeks ago, and she usually improves quickly with racing. She drops 7kg, and can't be ruled out of a top 3 finish. KINDLING SPARK (9) has won over this trip, and she is much sharper second up. Each way. SUGGESTED PLAY: Court Of Appeal each way. |

AGRAFORUM ZUMSIL 1400m
Pace looks genuine from Our Echo, Toa Haka and Ears Back, closely attended by Candycane. CONTEMPLATION BAY (8) was very tough when racing on the pace and fighting on strongly to win by a short-head at Riccarton just over 2 weeks ago. There is more depth to this field, but she is only having her third run from the Terri Rae stable, and with 3kg less to carry, she can repeat the dose. ROYAL VALOUR (7) was a beaten favourite over 2000m at Riccarton last time out when just coming to the end of his run late. He is better over the shorter trips, and has won 4 times here over 1400m, including 3 wins on this track. Stick with him. TOA HAKA (6) needed the run when peaking late, fresh up over 1200m in the Timaru Stakes at Riccarton nearly 4 weeks ago. He normally improves with racing, and is well worth each-way consideration in this. CANDYCANE (5) has hit the line strongly in both of her runs back from a spell, and she will be spot on for this assignment. She likes the track, so don't risk her. Each way. OUR ECHO (3) is back in the South Island, and is an each-way threat in this. SUGGESTED PLAY: Contemplation Bay can win again, and Our Echo is worth each-way consideration. |

AGRAFORUM GROWING INNOVATION 1400m
Not much early pressure but Nuncio, Pure Artist and Dragon Biscuit can take up forward spots. COOL 'N' FAST (2) ran on late when making an encouraging South Island debut from the Southern arm of the Walker/Bergerson stable, finishing fourth as the favourite. He strips fitter, and he is the one to beat in this. CELTIC BLING (10) is a stablemate of the top pick and is probably his main danger. He was third at Riccarton when resuming from a spell just over 2 weeks ago, and it is good to see Bruno Queiroz keep the faith. Each way all day. FLAT STANLEY (5) has found it hard to win another race, but has been thereabouts in his last couple of starts over a mile at Riccarton. He has the pole position here, and his only win has been over 1400m. Stick with him. DRAGON BISCUIT (4) has been racing well enough over 1200m since relocating to the South Island, and he tries 1400m again. He might race closer to the pace this time, and with some luck, he can figure in the top 4. NUNCIO (6) failed to fire on a soft track at Riccarton just over 5 weeks ago. Include in all top 4 combos. SUGGESTED PLAY: Cool 'N' Fast can win this, and Celtic Bling for the quinella. |
