AUSTRALIA DAY RACES AT THE MTC COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m
Many of these step out for the first time so a genuine tempo is expected. UNDER WRAPS (6) is an Astern gelding on debut for the Beasley camp who impressed in his recent trial win when cruising stylishly to the line. With the red-hot Boudvillain booked, he looks ready to kick things off with a bang. RUM JUNGLE (5) continues to chase that elusive maiden victory but has been honest, placing in four of six starts. Has the pace to offset a wide alley and is sure to give backers another bold sight. FORREST DANCER (4) is a Tagaloa gelding on debut for the Spackman camp. Has shown encouraging signs in his trials, particularly the latest when lengthening nicely under his own esteem. Draws to get the gun run for Guymer and can make a winning start. BURNT TO A CRISP (1) is another debutant who has caught the eye in his lead-up work and is worth keeping safe. SUGGESTED PLAY: Slight lean to Under Wraps on debut. Saving on Forrest Dancer. |

WELCOME LANE & RILEY MTC TRAINEE TRACK CURATORS CG&E MAIDEN PLATE 1300m
Genuine pace with Hold This taking up the running ahead of Tuscan War and Blue Cattle Dog. No spoils here but HOLD THIS (4) looks set to break through. Has just missed in his two runs to date when well supported, last time gifting the leader too much rope before driving hard late to make it close. Peaking now and keeps McDougall. Clearly the one to beat. UNDERCUT (10) makes his stable debut for the Brisbourne camp and while he showed little in his first two starts, he looks to have come on nicely during the break, scoring stylishly in a recent Tatura trial. Drawn well and is a chance to trouble the favourite. HOT TODDY (5) finds it hard to break the maiden but has competitive efforts scattered through his form. His last run before the break was a minor placing here in a strong maiden, so he can sneak into the frame. CALPASTATIN (7) was doing his best work late when resuming into third here. A likely improver worth including. SUGGESTED PLAY: Hold This is too short, so having something on Undercut. |

CONGRATULATIONS MITCH CASTLES MTC TRACK MANAGER F&M MAIDEN PLATE 1300m
Sparkels Dior has good early speed and can set a decent tempo. DEFLECTOR (2) gave backers a bold sight here when heavily supported fresh but folded late. Sure to have tightened with that run and has the speed to offset the wide draw and lead again. Expected to prove much harder to reel in this time. GRINZINGER NYX (4) makes her stable debut for the Brisbourne yard. Didn’t make an impression in Victoria last campaign but looks to have come on during the break, lengthening nicely in her recent trial. Can give this a big shake. DIVINE SPARK (3) resumes for the Collins camp and was good first-up last campaign at the Sapphire Coast without winning. Any improvement during the break will see her play a role. RAIN QUEEN (7) has shown glimpses without putting a full race together. Rock-hard fit now and worth keeping safe in the placings. SUGGESTED PLAY: Deflector to lead all the way. |

TEAM THOROUGHBRED NSW TRAINING ACADEMY COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE 1600m
Share Our Secret and Sabatina are both expected to press forward and take it up. PRIDE OF JEZZA (2) was an eye-catcher here fresh when rattling home from the tail to grab third. Sure to have tightened from that run and will relish the rise to the mile. With McDougall sticking, he looks very hard to hold out. Stablemate SUPER NIC (10) is mixing his form but was brave here last time when beaten a head. The in-form Boudvillain takes over and he looms as a clear danger. SABATINA (6) has returned in good order and is drawn to get all the favours from the inside. Had excuses when a beaten favourite at Wellington and can bounce back sharply. TIS NO MAN (3) was a determined maiden winner two back at Queanbeyan before a sound midfield effort at Albury. Still has scope for improvement and is among the chances. SUGGESTED PLAY: Pride Of Jezza to win. |

TED RYDER CUP DAY DECEMBER 24 BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1400m
Expecting a strong gallop with Divazou and Black Adam taking up the running over Hellberg. FREDDY’S SHOCK (6) returned in good order here when chasing gamely into the placings over a trip well short of his best. Rises sharply to a more suitable journey and is drawn perfectly for McDougall, who takes over. Looks the one to beat. HELLBERG (3) was dominant at Corowa last start and has been kept fresh with 36 days between runs. Retains the in-form Boudvillain and will give himself every chance again up on speed. WAGUNDA (10) improved sharply second-up with a barnstorming win here. Can cause a scare late if they overdo it in front. BLACK ADAM (1) hasn’t threatened in his last two but does go well over this journey and is worth keeping safe on best figures. SUGGESTED PLAY: Freddy's Shock to win. |

FAREWELL MARK HART MTC TRACK MANAGER CLASS 2 BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1200m
Strong pace from Crepescule and Durham Legacy matching motors with Kermandie River close at hand. HEAVENLY KISS (4) disappointed last time as favourite but was a sharp winner on the Riverside track when resuming. Kept fresh with 32 days between runs and looks set to bounce back strongly third-up. KERMANDIE RIVER (2) returns off a lengthy 435-day break but showed good ability in his debut prep and has trialled well in readiness. May need the run but is worth keeping safe. DURHAM LEGACY (10) has returned in good order this campaign and should be hitting his straps now fourth-up. Proven versatile with his speed and deserves his chance. CHRISTMAS STAR (7) was doing her best work late when resuming at Queanbeyan. Strips fitter and should settle closer. In the mix. SUGGESTED PLAY: Heavenly Kiss to win. |

FEBRUARY 28 SDRA COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFIER AT MTC CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000m
Solid tempo likely from Baggage Handler and Hi Poppy. SERENADING (10) is a promising mare building nicely, having made the perfect return at Albury over 900m. Kept fresh with 32 days between runs and is drawn to get all the favours from the inside. She can remain unbeaten. TEYLU (1) showed grit when driving hard to score as favourite at Gundagai. Loves this distance and strips rock-hard fit. Carries the big weight but is tough and deserves strong consideration. SHELLY’S LEGACY (9) is yet to break through this campaign but continues to produce strong closing efforts. Expect him to be charging late again. REASONABLE POINT (4) displayed sharp tactical speed when resuming at Gundagai, only to be gunned down by Teylu. Improvement is likely but the wide draw makes life difficult. SUGGESTED PLAY: Serenading to win. |
