JOHNSON BROTHERS MDN 2200M 2200m
Abundant pace from Blueridge, Our Castello and Unusual Choice vying for the lead with Shockiff on their backs.
UNUSUAL CHOICE (1) was a warm favourite when resuming from a spell over 2100m at Waipukurau, finishing a sound fourth. He strips fitter and is good enough to take this out. Follow your money. BILLY (2) made up some late ground when finishing third at Tauherenikau a month ago over 2200m. He has been placed in his only start here, and if he can settle close to the pace early on, then he will be hard to hold out. SPEEDIE O'REILLY (3) is a stablemate of the top pick who made up a lot of late ground when finishing fourth fresh up over a mile at Waipukurau just over 3 weeks ago. The extra 500m is ideal, and he will be right in the finish this time. Each way. ANNABELLE (10) was sixth fresh up for a new trainer at Whanganui 11 days ago. She is bred to relish the step up to 2200m, and from a good draw, she can figure in the top 4. ZEDDIANI (8) ran her best race yet when finishing runner-up last start in her first run over ground. Stick with her on an each-way basis. SUGGESTED PLAY: Speedie O'Reilly each way. |

CENTRAL ITM MDN 1000M 1000m
Plenty of pace from Falcrests Belle and Ebony Gem, with the added uncertainty of the several unraced runners engaged.
DANCING SHADOW (2) tried hard when finishing fourth here a month ago over this trip, and in a field that is lacking depth, he will be hard to hold out, especially with Bruno Queiroz keeping the faith. DUNCANNON (3) is a stablemate of the top pick who will be making his debut with the advantage of the pole position. He won his latest of 3 trials this season, and should go close to taking this out. CHILL FACTOR (1) has changed stables after failing to fire in 2 starts on heavy ground. He is unbeaten at the trials, and maybe a change of scenery can bring the best out of this gelding. Check the market moves. FALCRESTS BELLE (4) is another with very good trial form, and she has finished third in both of her starts this season. She has had a couple of gear changes and is good enough to win a race at short notice. EBONY GEM (5) won a trial for her new trainer prior to finishing midfield at New Plymouth 5 weeks ago over 1200m. She is worth another chance over this shorter trip. Each Way. SUGGESTED PLAY: Chill Factor each way. |

SCOTT'S AG CONTRACTING MDN 3YO 1600M 1600m
Not seeing a great deal of early speed. LOOSE JEWELS (1) ran on late when finishing runner-up behind an impressive winner at Waipukurau just over 3 weeks ago. He stays at the mile, but has a superior gate, and is ready now to go one better. MAJOR HOULIHAN (8) will be making her debut without any public trials, but she has been reported to be working the house down, and there are jumpouts held around her training area, so she will be ready to rumble. SAVACHI BOY (2) has been thereabouts in 4 starts this prep, and will continue to improve with further fitness and maturity. Include in all combinations. DOUBLE SHOT (7) won a trial prior to hitting the line strongly for fourth in the same race as the top pick. She will naturally improve second up and should be among the top 4 again. Each way. WIGMORE (3) ran on too late when finishing fifth in a 7-horse field on debut at Waverly nearly 4 weeks ago. Her lead-up trial form was solid, and the step up to a mile is ideal. Stick with him on an each-way basis. SUGGESTED PLAY: Major Houlihan each way. |

NZB MEGA MAIDEN SERIES 1600m
Moderate pace only with Gossip leading Early One's. NIGHTOWL (1) is knocking on the door for his first win, and was beaten by a nose as the favourite at Whanganui 11 days ago. He meets a modest field, and should get the job done again. GOSSIP (7) has been patiently handled and will have her first run from the Johno Benner stable. She steps up to a mile, and with some luck from a wide gate, she will close to taking this out. INCHIGEELAGH LASS (8) has had a couple of starts that have been well spaced, and was third on heavy ground earlier in the year. She resumes from a spell as a winner of the latest of 3 trials, and she will be running on strongly in this. Each way. UNUSUAL INVADER (10) finished third by less than a length when making her debut at Waipukurau just over 3 weeks ago. Stick with her. Can win. SUGGESTED PLAY: Nightowl should be the one to beat. |

NZ FOREST WORKS R60 2050M 2050m
Lack of early pace and expect a moderate tempo at best. TAKE ON (1) battled on gamely for sixth as the favourite last time out at Riccarton over 2600m 4 weeks ago. He has winning form on this track and will be at his peak fitness fourth up from a spell. He drops in class, and with the aid of a 3kg claim, he is the one to beat, so follow your money. WALKINTHEPARK (4) raced close to the pace at Whanganui last time out but failed to finish the race off as expected, finishing eighth. He is down in class and should now be ready to show something. RITHIM (8) needed the run second up and will have Bruno Queiroz in the saddle for the first time here. She will be peaking third up from a spell, and a form reversal is expected. Each way value. REDANA (5) does not have the best record here, but this field is not strong, and her exposed form is good enough to she her figure in the top 4. Include in all combinations. SUGGESTED PLAY: Take On can win this. |

LIQUORLAND MASTERTON R75 1600M 1600m
Yellow Jersey should find the front with Kawatiri and Sunshine Ale on his heels.
BE REAL (7) is an ex-NSW-trained mare having her first run in NZ. She has not had a public trial, but the Lisa Latta stable normally has them ready to rumble fresh up. If she doesn't need the run, then she is the one to beat. Check the market moves. PICCOLINO (10) was well ridden when showing a quick turn of foot to score in BM65 grade at Waverley nearly 4 weeks ago. She drops 2.5kg in weight and has the scope to repeat the dose. SUNSHINE ALE (11) improved from a modest fresh-up effort to score a tough win at Waipukurau just over 3 weeks ago over 1400m. She is up in class, down in weight, and from a superior gate, she has to be respected again. BLUE JEANIE (8) rocketed home fresh up here to finish third, and then flew home again at Whanganui over this trip 18 days ago, getting up to score an impressive win by a neck. Stick with her. PSYCLONE (12) was runner-up behind the fourth pick last time out, and usually holds her form when fit. Go again. SUGGESTED PLAY: Piccolino each way claims in an even field. |

LA STUD R65 1400M 1400m
Afternoon Siesta has good early speed and can set a decent tempo.
AFTERNOON SIESTA (7) has been patiently handled, and was beaten by a good type on debut, and then bolted home to an 8-length win next up at Whanganui before being put aside. She resumes from a spell with a recent trial placing under her belt. On top for us. HE'S LUCID (1) was unsuited by the heavy track fresh up at Riccarton 25 days ago, but still tried hard. He was second in a recent Woodville trial and will be a quick improver here. Each way. PEPEHA (2) resumed from a spell and was an easy BM60 winner at Waipukurau as the favourite. He cops a wide gate, but will still be very competitive. Include in all combos. NEW YORK BELLE (8) franked a Foxton trial win with a soft New Plymouth win fresh up there nearly 3 weeks ago. She is a lot stronger this season and is good enough to go on with the job. HICKORY JACK (5) caught the eye with a strong finishing burst to nab third place at Waipukurau last start. He will be peaking for this, and with luck from a wide gate, he won't be far away. SUGGESTED PLAY: Afternoon Siesta can win this fresh up. |
