NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:56 SPEIGHT'S SUMMIT ULTRA ON TAP MAIDEN 2200m
The Peony Xpress to take the lead and control the tempo. KESSEY (4) has all the form on the board, including 2 minor placings from as many starts on this surface to start this campaign. She should go close to getting the job done this time. RUFUS (1) should be the main threat to the top pick after a couple of improvers efforts here recently. The step up from 1600m to 2200m should suit him, and he has each-way claims again. SHOCKING SECRETS (5) has yet to run into the top 3 in her career, and is usually running on too late in her races. She is nicely weighted after a 3kg claim, and is worth including in all top 4 combos. SALACIA PRINCESS (7) has shown some talent in the past, and she is only having her second run from the Meg Cunneen stable. Keep safe. GAP IT (2) is the best of the rest in a very modest lineup.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Kessey should be winning.
2 01:33 ENTAIN/NZB INSURANCE PEARL SERIES 1200m
Reasonable tempo with a few going forward, headed by Sailor Girl. AYUMI (1) went close to winning again here after clearing her maiden status with a stylish performance, and her last start 6 days ago for fourth was also good. This is easier, and she is the one to beat. STEEZY (2) made progress last season, and is resuming from a spell with a recent trial win at Timaru under her belt. Drawing the pole in a small field will help, and with the aid of a 3kg claim, she can make an immediate impact fresh. OUR SALLYANN (6) is still a maiden, and because of that, she will carry less weight than usual. This field is probably only slightly tougher than what she has been facing, and a top 3 finish would be no surprise. I'M FEELING LUCKY (3) should now be ready to show some form, and she is a top 4 chance. MYSTIC OCEAN (4) will join SAILOR GIRL (5) in the fight for fourth, fifth and sixth place.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Ayumi can take this out, and Steezy for the quinella.
3 02:07 CHRISTCHURCH CASINO 31ST SI AWARDS - 11 SEPTEMBER MAIDEN 1600m
A solid tempo on the cards with Zambrosia heading them off. ZAMBROSIA (6) has needed plenty of time to mature, and she resumes in a modest field with a recent quiet trial under her belt. She makes her poly track debut in her first appearance in the South Island, and even if she is a run short, is still the one to beat for us. ZASHUBO (7) also makes her South Island and poly track debut, but will be having her first run from the Andrew Carston stable. Her last run when fourth at Waverley nearly 5 weeks ago is good enough form for her to be hard to hold out in this. Each way. COCOMORA (4) was sent out as a short-priced favourite when finishing fourth here 6 days ago over 1400m. The quick back up is an encouraging sign, and she can set the record straight with a win here. Follow your money. NOIVERN (1) has been steadily improving with racing, and he took plenty of catching off the front when finishing second here 3 weeks ago. Stick with him. UNSHACKLED (5) has been racing well here, and she is the best of the rest.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Zambrosia can win this.
4 02:42 CUP WEEK TICKETS ON SALE - 1 SEPTEMBER MAIDEN 1400m
Just a moderate tempo given the absence of pacy gallopers. CALL TO ARMS (1) peaked on his run second up as the favourite here 3 weeks ago, and he has found the right sort of race for him third up from a spell. He carries 3kg less here, so follow your money. CHINO'S BOY (2) followed up a big run on debut at Wingatui by racing greenly at his next start at Cromwell before being put aside for a much needed spell to mature. He looked in good shape at a recent trial, and he will be ready to rumble fresh up. VIENNA GAME (3) raced close to the pace on a slow tempo here 6 days ago and battled away gamely for second by less than a length. If this race has not come too soon for her, then she can figure in the top 4 again. SAN RENO (6) resumes from a spell that would have done him the world of good, and he should not be underestimated at some value. HARLOWS PRIDE (4) and LILYBET (5) are the also in the mi for fourth place.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Call To Arms is the one to beat.
5 03:18 FRANKIE VALLI & 4 SEASONS-CHCH 19 SEPTEMBER RATING 60 1400m
Right Of Appeal, Warrior Of War and The Fed Express can set a good tempo. CAPE HORN (1) was much better when finishing second in a similar field to this here 3 weeks ago. He only has to run up to that effort again, to be the one to beat in this. THE FED EXPRESS (3) has been disappointing overall since winning on debut, and his resuming effort here 3 weeks ago was another modest effort. He drops into BM60 grade for the first time, and a form reversal is on the cards. JACK ATTACK (2) should be suited by the step up to 1400m, and he will definitely be suite to BM60 grade. Stick with him on an each-way basis. RIGHT OF APPEAL (4) makes his South Island debut for a new trainer, and he has found a very winnable race here. It is hard to get a line on him without any public trials, but he has talent, and the market will be out best guide. WARRIOR OF WAR (5) and MIRAQUA (6) can also lob into the top 4 without surprise.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Jack Attack each way.
6 03:53 LISTEN LIVE ON SPORTNATION.NZ RATING 65 2200m
Roca Mile is the likely leader and should be able to get there comfortably. PRIVATE TREATY (4) stepped straight up from her overdue maiden win here in her penultimate start, to racing in open-class 3 weeks ago, and she understandably finished near the rear. She is much better placed in this, and a bounce straight back into the top 3 is expected. Each way. ALLTHEKINGSHORSES (3) has made progress when racing in the North mainly on the Cambridge poly track, and she now makes her South Island debut from the Ainsley McLeod stable. She is less than 3 weeks between runs, so she won't lack fitness, and she can take this out. DEVIL IN DISGUISE (2) had taken some racing to get fit, and finished a narrowly beaten second here 3 weeks ago fourth up from a spell. He can build off that, and should run another honest race. Stick with him. SARISSA (7) is seldom far away, and in this field, she is a must for all top 4 combos. AVIVA (6) and ROCA MILE (1) add further interest in an even contest, so keep them safe as well.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Private Treaty each way claims in a competitive lineup.
7 04:25 RACECOURSE HOTEL & MOTOR LODGE RATING 60 1600m
Not much early pressure but Bernardo, La Voisin and Lanikai can take up forward spots. LA VOISIN (7) has yet to show up in 2 starts this prep, but drops into the right race third up from a spell. A 3kg claim will help, and a form reversal is on the cards. Each way value. LANIKAI (3) ran a much better race fresh up for the first time from the Jess Land stable, and he is capable of winning this. ROLLINS (1) is getting out to a more suitable trip, and if 1600m is not already too short for him, then he can figure in the top 3. SINCERE (2) has been mixing his form, and drops back from 2200m to 1600m for this, which should suit him, as will the 3kg claim. He is worth including from a handy gate. FROSBIE (9) backs up quickly, and with the aid of the pole position, he is worth including in a modest field like this.  SUGGESTED PLAY: La Voisin can't be underestimated.
