WELLINGTON STEEPLECHASE TICKETS ON SALE NOW! 2500m
ISLAND HOP (2) made a safe but cautious debut over hurdles at Te Rapa nearly 2 weeks ago as the favourite, and finished a game runner-up. He will be better for the experience, and he will also be peaking at the right time for what should be a heavy track. Follow your money. BILLY (4) was a deserved maiden winner on the flat at Hastings on a very testing track last time out, and he will be well schooled for his jumping debut. He benefits from a 2kg claim, and is likely to have plenty of market support. COMEDY (5) has had 3 runs back from a spell, and he will be well seasoned for his first time over hurdles. He likes it wet, and always had pace on the flat earlier in his career. Follow the market moves. SCOTTY (8) is a maiden on the flat making his jumping debut. He hails from the right stable, and he should give a good account of himself. Each way. PINKERTON (7) will be well schooled for his jumps debut, and as a winner of 5 races on the flat, he will be ready to rumble. SUGGESTED PLAY: Island Hop can win, but this field has many with each-way claims. |

VALE BOB AUTRIDGE HURDLES 2500m
TUTIN CANS (1) has been placed in 2 of his 3 starts over jumps, and he needed his last start at Te Rapa when finishing fourth in a 6-horse field as the favourite when having his first hurdle start of the year. He will be a lot sharper for this, and he can make amends, so follow your money. KICK ON (9) makes his jumping debut after a solid career on the flat that included 7 wins. He hails from the powerful Kevin Myers stable, and he will be ready to run a big race here. CARIGNAN (5) had found it hard to win another race on the flat, but he had many minor placings. He is ready to go jumping now, and the market moves will be a good guide. NIGHTREIGN (2) was pulled up after mixing his jumping at Whanganui fresh up nearly 4 weeks ago, but he is worth another chance in this. Include in all top 4 combos. COCKTAIL LAD (6) makes his jumping debut, and he showed plenty of dash on the flat last season on wet tracks. If he jumps safely, then he will be right in this at the business end. SUGGESTED PLAY: Kick On each way. |

MANAWATU ITM MANAWATU HURDLES 2500m
HAPPY STAR (3) resumed from a spell on the flat at New Plymouth and just followed the field around for practice. It will be a different story over the hurdles, and this very accomplished jumper will go close to taking this out. HILL OF KINGS (4) is another very good hurdler who needed his fresh up run on the flat at Woodville just over 5 weeks ago. He loves it heavy, and if he doesn't need this run as well, then he is expected to be very competitive. BILLY BOY (2) was the jumping find of last year, and his form on the flat this year has been very good bar his last run at Whanganui when not having much luck. He is well placed after a 2kg claim, and he can win this. SO CALL ME (8) made a good job of both of his hurdle starts to date, and he will be spot on with his fitness after 3 runs back from a spell on the flat. His strong track record makes him hard to beat here. DICTATION (1) is a top class hurdler who strips fitter after his fresh up run on the flat. Don't risk him. Can win. SUGGESTED PLAY: Billy Boy will be hard to beat in a very good field. |

LET'S KEEP RACING AT TRENTHAM SUPPORTERS CLUB 2YO SPRINT 1000m
Tricky one to map with a number of first starters but over this trip there is good speed anticipated. SHAMELIA KIRK (6) won a pair of Foxton trials impressively before finishing runner-up as a warm favourite on debut at Woodville just over 5 weeks ago when trying to make all the running over 1100m. Dropping back to 1000m should help here, and she can take them all the way this time. Follow your money. HIDDEN SPARK (10) makes her debut from an astute stable with no public trials. The New Plymouth track does hold local jump-outs, and she has had experience there, and using the market as our best guide is the wide choice. ALONOTAS (3) was very disappointing on debut in the spring, and will be a lot stronger this year. His trial form suggests that he has ability, and he can be a rapid improver fresh up. THUNDER SQUIRREL (5) was runner-up in his only public trial, and he is bred to swim in wet ground. He has a reasonable draw, and if not too green, he can figure in the top 3 on debut. SUGGESTED PLAY: Shamelia Kirk should win, and Hidden Spark bears close watching. |

MANAWATU ITM MANAWATU STEEPLECHASE 4000m
NEVER LOOK BACK (9) won his second hurdle start for 6 attempts when winning at Whanganui nearly 4 weeks ago by 6 lengths as the favourite in a dominant performance. He has improved this year in that role, and he will have no problems adapting to the steeples here. Stick with him on top. BRUCIE (7) has probably not lived up to his potential in this role, and he has often chanced his fences at a vital stage. He benefits from a 3kg claim, and his peak effort would take him close to winning this. SUPER FLASH (6) was a game runner-up at Whanganui over the hurdles last start, and he will be at his peak fitness now for his first attempt at the steeples. Each way value. INVISIBLE SPIRIT (2) has been tuned up for a return to the steeples with his last 2 runs being over the hurdles. He has already won in this role, and with his pace on the flat, he is a top 4 chance in this. NEDWIN (1) has been a top jumper for a long time, and he loves this track. Don't risk him. SUGGESTED PLAY: Never Look Back is fit, and he can win again. |

SPORTING TOURS MELBOURNE CUP SPRINT 1200m
Into The Circle to go to the lead at a genuine tempo. INTO THE CIRCLE (5) sat close to the pace at Whanganui last week and just battled to see out the 1340m. She will be right at home with a return to 1200m, and with the aid of a kilo claim, she goes on top for us. ENSIGN ARIA (8) was handy to the pace before fading out in the run home to finish well back over 1400m at Woodville more than 5 weeks ago. She is better off over this shorter trip, and she can bounce straight back into the top 4 here. Each way value. AMALTHEA (6) set the pace before weakening late at Otaki 3 weeks ago over 1400m. She is another who will appreciate having 200m less to travel here, and she can make amends. EXPLOSIVE FORCE (1) has won a trial since finishing fourth on debut at Avondale just over 8 weeks ago. Stick with him for all combos. SUGGESTED PLAY: Ensign Aria each way. |

HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY PAT BAKER 1200m
In a small field either Ima Brazen One or Turn The Ace will find the front. SINBIN (4) loves it here, and all of her 3 wins on this track have been over this trip. She needed her fresh up run at Otaki 3 weeks ago, and with the aid of a kilo claim, she will be hard to hold out. IMA BRAZEN ONE (2) steadily improved in each of her 3 runs back from a spell, winning the most recent of those at Otaki. She has won on this track in the past, and an extra 2kg should not be enough to stop her from going close to repeating the dose. PRIORESS (5) has been an honest winter performer for a long time, and she did enough when posting a rare win by a head at New Plymouth 2 weeks ago. She likes it here, which is a big advantage, and with 3.5kg less to carry, she may even win again. TOLSTOY (6) has yet to miss a cheque in 3 starts on this track. He might need it, but include in combos. SUGGESTED PLAY: Sinbin can win this. |

VISION ENHANCEMENT AV SPECIALISTS 1500m
POETIC JUSTICE (10) has recently changed stables after struggling to find his best form, and he will be gearing up for a jumping role in the near future. A change of scenery and some schooling can sometimes turn the form around, and this gelding could be a big improver in a modest field like this. Follow the market moves. POSSESS (6) made progress last prep, and he will continue to improve this year with more racing. A recent trial would have him tuned up, and he is a sound top 4 chance. SUNNY (7) made light work of a very testing track at Hastings last time out when recording his first win. He is likely to get another heavy track here, and now that the penny has dropped, he can repeat the dose. DUBAI'S POTIKI (2) dropped in class fresh up at Woodville and was too strong. Stick with him on an each-way basis. SUGGESTED PLAY: Poetic Justice each way value. |

GRANT PLUMBING 30TH ANNIVERSARY 1500m
BELLE TRIBUTE (4) has built up a good record in a short career, and she was a narrow winner of her last run in a similar field at New Plymouth a fortnight ago over 1400m. She only rises 2kg kilos for her peak run third up, and if the heavy track is loose, then she is the one to beat again. BENEFACTOR (6) has needed all of her 3 runs back from a spell, and she will notice the drop down from stakes company here. She will be hoping not to settle too far back from her perfect inside draw, and if the gaps come at the right time, she can figure in the top 3 at value. KOPUA (8) is another quality veteran who has also needed all of his 4 runs back from a spell. He has not won for some time, but he can never be taken lightly in fields such as this one. Include. ENRICO (1) loves it here, and he loves bad ground. He was third fresh up, and if he doesn't need this run as well, then he can take this out. CHASE (2) is a very good veteran when fit, and his heavy track stats here are strong. SUGGESTED PLAY: Belle Tribute can win, but don't risk Enrico. |

GRAHAM'S PAINTERS 1400m
KOMOCEAN (2) is a very progressive and lightly tried 4YO mare who resumed with a brave effort for third at New Plymouth 2 weeks ago over 1200m. She will relish the extra 200m, and bad ground is no problem. She benefits from a 2kg claim, and is the one to beat for us. Follow your money. KOSTA (4) will be backing up quickly after a modest run on the poly track at Awapuni 6 days ago where he did not seem to handle the going. He has a superior gate back to his favoured turf surface here, and it is encouraging to see Jonathan Riddell keep the faith. Stick with him at some top 3 value. NEW YORK BELLE (11) was too strong fresh up over 1400m on her home track at Waverley 4 weeks ago, and she will improve again on wet tracks this year. She strips fitter, drops in weight, and she can repeat the dose. ARKSEY (10) resumes from a spell, and he will appreciate racing on a heavy track. Follow any market moves. WHISKEY N' RYE (8) was close up when resuming, and he is much better second up. Each way. SUGGESTED PLAY: Komocean can win, and Kosta to make the quinella. |
