NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:58 HARCOURTS OTAKI THREE YEAR OLD MAIDEN 1400m
Not much gate speed on show enabling Roberto Veloce to roll to the front. KING JAKKAL (2) resumed off a brief freshen up and was fourth at Otaki over 1200m. He is strong enough now to cope with a more suitable 1400m, and from the inside draw, he can get the job done here. ROBERTO VELOCE (3) got too far back from a wide gate at Waverley last time out, and from a superior gate, he can run up to the form that saw him finish third on debut. Stick with him. UNDER ORDERS (6) was well beaten in the G3 Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham just over 3 weeks ago, following on from a narrow defeat in this class at Otaki. She is expected to bounce back in the top 4 immediately. DIPLOMATIC (1) is a promising gelding who will find this easier than his last start. Include in all combinations.  SUGGESTED PLAY: King Jakkal can take this out.
2 01:33 AQUASHIELD ROOFING MAIDEN 1200m
Expecting Just A Nudge to find the lead but there will be plenty of pressure over the sharp trip. SIERRA LEONE (11) was surprisingly beaten as an odds-on favourite at Whanganui nearly 3 weeks ago, and she may just not be suited to leading. Expect her to be ridden with cover this time, and with some luck, she is the one to beat again. Follow your money. BANTRY (12) sat close to the pace and boxed on bravely for second at Otaki a month ago. A similar effort will take her close to breaking through in this. JUST A NUDGE (7) is a lightly tried 7-year-old mare resuming from a spell. She has been placed in 2 of her 3 starts on this track, and if not needing the run, she is worth including. ALIYANA BELLE (4) tried hard fresh up when finishing runner-up at Whanganui, and she can figure in the top 4 again in this field. CONFIANZA (13) makes her debut, and she hails from the in-form Cody Cole stable. The market is the best guide.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Sierra Leone has one more chance for us.
3 02:11 NEW WORLD OTAKI MAIDEN 2100m
Moderate pace with Kayzino rolling to the lead and setting the tempo. HEPHAESTUS (2) has hit the line strongly in both of his runs to date, and he will be nearing his peak fitness third up from a spell. He has a good gate, and in a field that lacks depth, he is the one to beat. JUSTKO PRINCE (6) ran a much better race when finishing on late for seventh at Waverley 11 days ago. He is likely to settle back again, but in this field, he is capable of a top 4 finish. Each way value. KAYZINO (9) resumed over a mile at Whanganui nearly 3 weeks ago, and was doing her best work late when finishing fifth. She is bred to relish the longer trip here, and she is well worth including in all combinations. GOLDEN LINING (8) has been trying to win a race for some time, and her recent form has been encouraging. With the right run, she is another who can figure in the top 4. MALIBU (1) was only a length from the winner at Whanganui last time out off a wide draw. He cops another tough gate, but in this field, he won't be far away again.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Hephaestus is the one to beat here.
4 02:44 FASTINTERNET.NZ MAIDEN 1600m
Expecting a keen tempo with Port Chalmer set alight, joined by Curtsy and Ribella Rose up front. CRICKET (13) is a locally trained filly who has raced her way into some good form. She was less than a length from the winner when fourth at Whanganui nearly 3 weeks ago, and she is on target to crack her maiden win on her home track. DERRICK (3) caught the eye with an impressive finish for third on debut, and then got too far back in a tougher field at Trentham just over 3 weeks ago. The step up to a mile will help him, and back in this class, he can take it out. PORT CHALMER (2) has been trying to win a race for some time, but has not been far away on some occasions. He was close up in fourth place last time out, and despite a wide gate, he can figure in the top 4 again. JACOBITE RISING (1) ran a much better race second up at Whanganui last time out when finishing third, and only a neck back from the winner. Craig Grylls steps into the irons, and the pair merits healthy respect.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Cricket can win this.
5 03:24 VETS ON RIVERBANK MAIDEN 1400m
Strong pace from Charming Emperor, Agent Black Hand and Sand Point, with Riomosa and Sargent on their heels. SATTRIYA (10) was beaten by a nose on debut, and then was third on a heavy track nearly 6 weeks ago, both times at her home track of New Plymouth. She meets the right sort of field and can get the job done this time. IVY TIME (12) is a promising mare that wound up late for second at Whanganui last time out. She might already be looking for more ground, but if the pace is genuine, then she can have the last say. IFBYMAGIC (9) has not had much luck in 2 starts to date, and was a trial winner before that. Expect something better this time. SUMMIT UP (3) franked some good trial form with a bold third on debut. She will naturally improve with the run, and she can pick a win shortly.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Sattriya can win this.
6 03:55 CAVALLO FARMS & CHRIS RUTTEN BLOODSTOCK HANDICAP 1400m
Moderate tempo with Littleredcorvette leading the way and a few others keeping in touch. THE BIG PICTURE (1) got back too far at Trentham last start and just battled home to finish not too far from the winner. His form prior was building nicely, and he can bounce straight back into the money here. STIPULATOR (5) just peaked on her run at Waverley last start in a race that did not have much pace up front. She is running out of chances, but if she can find her best form from earlier in her career, then she could win this. COLOUR CHART (6) failed to fire last start, after performing well in her first start for Andrew Campbell before that. He is worth another chance. JOHN DOE (3) won here in his penultimate start over this trip, and may not have seen out the mile at Whanganui last time out. Stick with him on an each-way basis.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Stipulator each way.
7 04:33 THE TELE OTAKI HANDICAP 1600m
Stringline and Bay Express to take up the running at a strong tempo. ARKSEY (4) has been given plenty of time to mature, and won both of his starts in the spring before being put aside for a well-earned spell. He resumes with a couple of trials under his belt, and if he can cope with what may be a firmer surface, then he will be hard to hold out. PSYCLONE (6) has not missed a cheque in 3 starts on this track, including a nose win here in her penultimate start. She was a beaten favourite at Whanganui nearly 3 weeks ago, but she can make amends in this. Follow your money. BAY EXPRESS (1) has gone back-to-back this season since stepping up to a mile, and even though those wins were only by a narrow margin, he did display plenty of courage. He goes to the top of the handicaps now, but the hat-trick is not beyond him. PROCUL BOY (2) was back in form when charging home from last to score by a nose in his penultimate start, and then he did not have many favours at Trentham 8 days ago. Stick with him. PICCOLINO (8) has the ability and she is worth including.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Procul Boy each way.
8 05:14 OTAKI TYRE REPAIRS HANDICAP 1600m
Genuine pace with El Jaycee taking up the running ahead of Macee Girl and Gossip. GOSSIP (8) has been sent out as favourite in nearly all of her 8 career starts after showing up at the trials, and unfortunately for her supporters, she had been beaten in most of those runs until finally putting it all together to score here easily a month ago. Now that the penny has dropped, she should go on with it. UNCLE KEN (3) dashed home late for this at Whanganui second up nearly 3 weeks ago. He is a progressive gelding that is peaking at the right time, and even from a wide gate, he can take this out. THE LIQUIDATOR (5) has needed both of his starts to date, and his only career win has come third up, which was also on this track. A form reversal is on the cards. HICKORY JACK (1) was building his form nicely prior to his last start, sixth at Trentham in a stronger field than this. A wide gate is no help, but in this company, he can bounce straight back into the money. PIERCING ARROW (2) did not see out 2000m last time out, and he is worth another chance back over a mile here.  SUGGESTED PLAY: The Liquidator each way value.
