LADIES DAY SATURDAY 8 NOVEMBER SUPER MAIDEN HANDICAP 1600m
Jonson should spear straight to the front of the small field. Very good maiden to kick things off. COLUMBUS (3) has closed off stoutly in his two runs to date, beaten under a length into minor placings on each occasion. Will improve as the distances increase. Like McDonald going - a sign of intent from veteran trainer Les Bridge. The promising stayer BLACK BABYLON (1) is back from a 198-day spell. Last appeared when beaten just over a length in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes over 2000m. The mile looks a perfect trip while fresh. Should run very well with a couple of recent trials under the belt. LAUPER (4) came with a mighty run but missed by a whisker last time out over 1400m at Kembla. Genuine filly who will relish getting out to 1600m for the first time. SIR LOYNE (5) was just fair on debut last start at Rosehill but can improve sharply. Watch for a big run today from IRONHEART (6) who gets the blinkers on for the first time. SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Columbus. |

HRC MOTEL 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m
Plenty of first starters engaged which makes it tricky to map, but we can assume a keen tempo. A couple of key scratchings open this up for CONFIDENTIALITY (4) who debuts for the Joe Pride stable. Half-sister to top sprinter Private Eye. Trialling as though she has some of the family talent and the strong early betting push backs that assertion. REWRITE (2) is a Written Tycoon colt on debut for Michael Freedman. Plenty of trial experience dating back to May. Should be forward enough to run well. MAJESTIC LEGEND (5) is first-up since a disappointing debut in June on soft ground. Recent trials have been encouraging. Worth another chance on firmer footing this time. TRIPLE PLAY (9) appears for the first time. Half-sister to the Group 3 winner Bases Loaded from the Waller camp. Placed in both trials and McDonald rides so she is sure to attract interest. SANT GERVASI (3) and SECRET ENCOUNTER (6) are first starters that have shown enough at the trials to suggest they can make an impact. SUGGESTED PLAY: First starters hold the key so betting is crucial - on face value Confidentiality is the one to back. |

XXXX GOLD PROVINCIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1500m
Tricky, given the lack of early speed. SQUEEZEBOX (2) opened this prep well enough but was very one-paced last start over this trip at Kembla. Would normally be concerned with him staying at 1500m but the blinkers are back on today which should sharpen him up. Worth another chance. BLUEBIRD BAY (1) returned from a 24-week spell last time out and was having his first run for the new stable when a closing fourth over 1300m at Scone. Beaten under a length at Newcastle at the same stage last prep. Hard to hold out over the extra furlong. MISS HVAR (3) has settled back in the field and failed to threaten in her two runs this prep. Lightly raced mare who gets a gear change today and strips fitter so can improve sharply. GWENDIE (4) struggled at the end of 2000m last start. Placed two from three at this distance so can make amends. OH DEER (5) dominated first-up at Tuncurry and should have a lot more to offer. SUGGESTED PLAY: Squeezebox on top. |

DE BORTOLI WINES MAIDEN PLATE 1100m
Expecting Sassy Abbey to find the lead but there will be plenty of pressure over the sprint trip. EL QASABI (1) is back for a second campaign. Raced twice in the maiden prep and filled a couple of minor placings while never threatening. Trialling very well and looks ready to come back bigger and better. SASSY ABBEY (9) started even-money first-up at Orange but after leading the judge faded to finish fourth. Keen to give her another chance with the blinkers going on for the first time. GREAT HEIGHTS (7) missed the kick and was never a factor on debut at Rosehill recently. Waller-trained filly who can do a lot better in this modest maiden. Market watch on POLYESTER GIRL (8) on debut for the Archibald stable. Half-sister to the dual stakes winner Corner Pocket. Should have ability. FUADEE (2) is a Yes Yes Yes entire having his first start. Did enough in a recent trial to suggest he can be competitive. SUGGESTED PLAY: El Qasabi to win first-up. |

BUNDABERG RUM MIDWAY BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 1500m
There should be a bit of pressure with More Mischief and Debello pressing forward in advance of Prince Aurelius and Prefer Diamonds. HORIZONS (3) turned in an eye-catcher first-up then relished the new role of leader last start, putting away a Class 1 field over this distance at Kembla. Gets in on the same weight today and with further improvement in store she can get the job done again. PREFER DIAMONDS (6) is a late bloomer who has collected her maiden win and Class 1 success at her last two appearances, both here at 1500m. Love mares when they hit form so keep her very safe. MAH ALI (7) was gone a long way from home at Newcastle recently when he was stepping up to 1850m. Drops 1.5kgs and is worth another chance coming back to this trip. FULL METAL JACKET (5) did his best work late at Kembla last time and should appreciate this slightly longer trip third-up. JUST SHANE (2) won a similar race to this at Kembla two back before failing in open company last time. Can return to form in this suitable contest. SUGGESTED PLAY: Keen on Horizons. |

ESSENTIAL ASSET + FIRE BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP 2000m
Expecting Jacob's Time to take up the lead at a genuine tempo. JUST GO BANG (3) led all the way and won a similar race here three runs back under just half a kilo less than he will carry today. Subsequent failures when he hasn't led may be worth overlooking. Deserves another chance. AFFERMATO (4) had been racing well before a comprehensive all-the-way win over 1800m here three weeks ago. Yet to prove himself at this trip but he showed no signs of slowing down last time. Races well at Hawkesbury and looks a serious threat again. MAGIC PHAROAH (10) is racing well without winning, the latest effort a closing fourth over 1800m in a Randwick Midway. One of the chances down in the weights. PRESLEY (5) warmed to the task late when resuming over 1800m at Rosehill a fortnight ago. Capable of sharp improvement up to this trip with that run under the belt. MEGA FIGHT (7) doesn't win often but his recent efforts, including a last start second when attempting this trip for the first time, have had merit. SUGGESTED PLAY: Just Go Bang each-way. |

BLAKES MARINE F&M BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP 1300m
Moderate tempo with Pretty Tavi leading the way and a few others keeping in touch. LAUREL HILL (4) has been in the placings ten times in the past 12 months but a win has eluded her. Tackled the Cootamundra Cup over a mile last start and did a reasonable job to finish fourth. Coming back in trip is a positive move. Finds a nice race and this might be her day. MISS FLEETWOOD (10) was lining up for just the fourth time when she bolted in at Nowra in a 1200m maiden last time out. In good hands and looks ready to take this rather large next step. LISTINS LASS (5) produced an eye-catcher at her latest appearance, coming from worse than midfield on the bend to be beaten under a length over 1200m at Kembla. Ready to peak at the third run back over an extra 100m. Lightly raced mare PARIAH ENGAGEMENT (9) resumes. Hasn't won since her debut 13 months ago. Draws the fence and can feature while fresh. WANDAYE (6) didn't quite run a strong 1400m at Goulburn last time so this looks an ideal trip. SUGGESTED PLAY: Laurel Hill each-way. |

CLARENDON TAVERN CG&E BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP 1300m
Expecting a solid pace with Green Spaces, Unreal Expectation and Aligned leading the charge. ORTHIES (3) started favourite but was a little one-paced when resuming over 1200m at Kembla last start. Suited out to 1300m and from a good gate will get all the favours in running. Should bounce back and play a major role. ALIGNED (8) raced handy then launched a strong challenge only to miss by the barest margin over 1200m at Newcastle last time out. Going very well and like the engagement of Rawiller. Poses a genuine threat. UNREAL EXPECTATION (7) is a four-year-old back from a nine-week break and faces the starter for just the sixth time. Progressed to be competitive at provincial level at the close of the maiden prep. Good enough to get involved here despite the gap between runs. BEND THE KNEE (4) finished alongside Orthies when they clashed at Kembla recently. That was the veterans first outing in 18 weeks. Fitter and should be thereabouts again. PRESIDENT (1) is back in grade and fitter for three runs back from a spell so keep him very safe. SUGGESTED PLAY: Orthies each-way in a tough race to close the card. |
