CAULFIELD   27 April 2024
NUM TIME COMMENT
1 11:50 Barastoc Handicap 1200m
Solid pace on the cards from Bill The Boxer pushing forward. THALER (5) won well at Moonee Valley then wasn't that far away last time. Looks much better off this time with the claim and is expected to give this a shake. BEWS (3) was a flashing light run when returning from a break at Caulfield. Is going to strip fitter this time and will be tough to hold out. TIFFANY VALENTINE (16) was freshened before coming from last here at most recent run when finishing midfield, not far from the winner. Looks up to a race like this. Won't be far away.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Back Thaler and Bews to win.
2 12:20 Here For The Horses Handicap 1800m
Strong pace on the cards with Speranzoso and Perfect Ending expected to be crossing from wide out. SMOKIN' PRINCESS (10) has looked the goods scoring at Pakenham at past couple. This is a rise in grade, but the extra distance is seen as a plus. Forward showing on the cards. Group 3 placegetter MOYA LASS (8) was well supported when scoring a solid first-up win. Strips fitter this time around and the extra ground is a plus. Sure to run well. REBADGE (6) has performed soundly in two runs this campaign and the slight drop in trip is seen as a plus. One of the hopes in an open race.  SUGGESTED PLAY: A tough race but happy to have something on Smokin' Princess and Moya Lass to win.
3 12:55 Sheen Panel Service VOBIS Gold Mile 1600m
Genuine tempo expected with Falcon Of Malta leading the way. Group 1 placegetter POUNDING (1) resumed with a pleasing effort at Yarra Valley over an unsuitable journey. Is going to strip fitter for the run and the extra ground here is a huge plus. Expected to go close. BARBIE'S FOX (3) is back in grade having competed against the mares in Group races most recently. The more rain the better for her chances. Has to be respected. BELTORO (2) tired late in the contest when resuming here three weeks ago. Will be fitter for the run and is more than capable on his day. Won't be far away. Group 3 placegetter CHARTRES (4) worked home soundly first-up at Bendigo and with added fitness won't be too far away at the business end.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Back Pounding and Barbie's Fox to win.
4 01:30 Blue Gum Farm VOBIS Gold Distaff 1400m
Genuine pace on the cards with Oh Too Good taking up the running ahead of Beour Bay and Naiconi. Group 3 winner PAPILLON CLUB (2) returned with an excellent first-up run at Moonee Valley then wasn't far away in even contest at Bendigo last time. Should be at her peak for this and will be tough to beat. Group 3 winner MEGAMEA (1) got a long way out of her ground before closing off well at Flemington. Looks nicely placed here and should be tough to beat. EXTRATWO (4) scored successive wins at Moonee Valley before being beaten by stablemate Chorlton Lane at Bendigo last time. That form should stack up here. Expected to run well. BEOUR BAY (3) registered a solid win at Terang second-up and should take further improvement from the run. Won't be too far away.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Back Papillon Club and Megamea to win.
5 02:05 Avenel Equine Hospital VOBIS Gold Heath 2000m
Tycoon Bec is likely to take up the running and set a decent tempo. Group 2 winner BERKELEY SQUARE (4) chased home Young Werther at Flemington before having an interrupted run in the straight here last time. Looks nicely placed against this lot and should be hard to beat. KHOEKHOE (3) found winning form again when successful in the Terang Cup. Usually holds form once he strikes it. Expected to run well. Group 3 winner LET'SBEFRANKBABY (7) has performed well in her two runs back from a break. Drops in weight this time and is expected to feature prominently. MAGNASPIN (2) led throughout in a good display at Moonee Valley last time. Extra trip won't be a problem. Look for a forward showing.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Keen on Berkeley Square.
6 02:40 The IRT VOBIS Platinum Guineas 1600m
Socks Nation has good early speed and can negate the outside draw. ELPHINSTONE (6) has returned in great order winning at Ballarat and backed it up with a solid effort at Bendigo. Should be at her top for this contest and will be tough to stop. SOCKS NATION (7) was a Moonee Valley winner in January and form since has been strong. Drops in grade on most recent efforts and is expected to go close. MODOWN (2) charged home from back in the field at Bendigo last time which followed easy on-pace win at Pakenham. The rise in trip here won't pose a problem. Has solid claims. GAWNSKI (3) registered a first-up win at Mornington before running well over in Adelaide. Better suited back in this company. Looks a strong hope.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Back Elphinstone and Socks Nation to win.
7 03:15 Yulong VOBIS Gold Sprint 1200m
Abundant early pace expected with Jigsaw, Semillion and Who Dares vying for the lead and Prancing Spirit on their backs. Multiple Group 1 placegetter THE ASTROLOGIST (5) is going to find this a far better assignment than last three outings at Group 1 level. Has a good record at this track and won't be too far from the money. GENERAL BEAU (3) has a solid record and two runs this campaign have been strong. Races well here as a rule and won't be too far off them at the business end. JIGSAW (1) has had two runs this campaign which have been strong and he should be ready to fire third-up. Won't be far away despite the weight. REY MAGNERIO (4) has a good record winning six of his 11 starts and effort here at most recent outing was full of merit. Has been freshened and a forward showing is expected.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Back The Astrologist to win and take in a quinella with numbers 1,3 & 4.
8 03:55 The TBV VOBIS Platinum Showdown 1200m
Strong early pace with Bold Bastille and Mrs Archibald pushing forward, along with Lincolnshire from out wide. BOLD BASTILLE (8) has won four of her five starts to date and could not have been more impressive scoring at Bendigo last time. Steps up to the 1200m here but shapes as though she will handle it. Looks the one to beat. LINKVUE (1) chased home Bold Bastille on debut at Bendigo. Is going to derive a lot of benefit from the run and the extra ground here will be a plus. Forward showing on the cards. LINCOLNSHIRE (10) raced on the speed and showed a lot of fight when successful on debut in Adelaide. Looks to have loads of ability and will give this a shake.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Back Bold Bastille to win.
9 04:30 Cylinder VOBIS Gold Dash 1200m
Celui to work forward. HEDGED (1) is a three-time winner from eight starts and was just touched out in tougher contest in Sydney last time. Looks nicely placed against this lot and should be hard to beat. MOBY DICK (5) fell just short of maintaining his unbeaten record at Bendigo last start. Shapes as the other key player before several solid each way hopes. CELUI (2) is one of those who has placed in his two runs back from a spell. ACID WASH (6) resumes. Was ultra consistent through his four start maiden campaign.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Back Hedged to win.
10 05:05 DCE Handicap 1400m
Slick pace on the cards with Edison expected to find the front but it won't be a picnic with a few other speedy types engaged. A big field and a tough way to finish the day. MAKTOOB (11) carried plenty of weight when producing a pleasing effort first-up at Bendigo. Strip fitter this time and has a nice weight drop. Looks a major threats second-up. MY KHALIFA (14) is over from Adelaide. Has been a model of consistency of late and stable invariably heads home with some money on their trips to Melbourne. Drawn to get a good run and won't be far away. Group 2 winner BANK MAUR (3) was dropped in trip over in Adelaide last time and just battled home. Is far better placed in this contest and can return to winning form. KING MAGNUS (1) is coming off a break. Won over this course and distance last campaign and doesn't look too badly treated after the claim for up-and-coming apprentice. Look for a forward showing.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Looks a wide open contest. Maktoob each-way is the way to go.
