NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:00 STRADBROKE CALCUTTA 13 JUNE QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1000m
With an entire field of first starters it is fair to assume a slick tempo. Tricky and closely monitor the late betting moves. HEARTS ARE BETTER (7) owns a 5.5L Deagon trial win over 650m. With the wet track and the rail out 11m the inside gate may be against but she will be hard to beat on what we've seen. SOUL PURSUIT (10) was placed in a Doomben trial and was set to start on 17 April but refused to load. Has ability but some trust is required. AIRSWING (11) has had a trial warmer and draws to advantage. Maloney is a key jockey engagement suggesting the gelding is pleasing the Dunn yard. CONCESSION (2) brings sharp trials and should have the early speed to manage the awkward barrier. SIMPLY FUN (4) brings a solid Doomben trial and should be around the mark with average luck in the run.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Hearts Are Better appeals on what we've seen.
2 12:33 CASCADE QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200m
A number step out for the first time and expect the field to run along. Vandyke-trained PROVANCE (2) won a trial and was narrowly beaten at Doomben on debut as a $3.5 favourite. Has a handy gate and the prolific stable striker Maloney stays aboard. Fitter and is likely to handle the slow surface given he's starting. THE GAMBLING GREEK (8) draws just inside the above and debuts owning a Doomben trial win. Has the blinkers on and Jones sticks from the trial. A bold run is likely. THREE TEES (9) debuted on the heavy at Doomben and found a place bet $5. Has Orman today for Maloney and the gelding is sure to have come on. It's hard to risk the Gollan yard. I'M HEROIC (6) was nudged out in the same contest when expected to need the outing. He can build on that. LA COMETA (10) has Rodd and showed enough at Doomben on debut to consider at a price.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Provance.
3 01:08 BECOME A BRC MEMBER QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate 1200m
They should run along okay. PAYLINE (7) resumes and is right up to this if presented on song. The sharp Doomben trial suggests he will be and he has a handy gate and 3kg claim. ABOUT TO EXPLODE (1) peaks for the premier metro barn and can build on the tough effort at Doomben. Orman stays aboard and with better luck, he can fight out the finish. WINNING EDITION (11) has serious backing at Ipswich first-up and was a touch disappointing. Rates strongly off the Doomben effort prior and is back after 7 days. Draws well and a much better effort is anticipated. MERCIAN (5) debuted in the ABOUT TO EXPLODE race and was beaten a whisker. No knock on that and he will present be fitter with a senior hoop aboard replacing the apprentice. SER JOH (8) resumes and has shown enough to say he's a chance.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Payline appeals most.
4 01:43 STRADBROKE SEASON BOOK NOW BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1800m
Gripping and Kokonotsu will press forward and the tempo should be solid. Waller-trained ICHIBAN (7) was narrowly beaten twice at Doomben over a mile and then missed a whisker there over 2020m heavily bet. Orman sticks and can engineer a soft run from a handy barrier. Has weight relief at this level and can go one better. TALK TIME (3) belted the 62 graders at Ipswich by 3.5L before a near miss here at this level over 1400m. He has strong form over a mile and the step up to 1800m shouldn't be an issue. Feared. THESECONDATPORTSEA (4) settled rearward and delivered a tough effort winning the CL3 at the Sunshine Coast over this distance on a heavy track. Has comparable figures on slow surfaces and can sit closer today. Well in the mix. ASWAAT (6) won a 65 at Doomben and was solid there following in in stronger again. Has won this course/distance and maps well. Worth a look at big odds.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Ichiban.
5 02:18 SKY RACING QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1800m
Genuine tempo from Hiyaam Proud leading Presley. Some nice types engaged. RING ME UP (8) resumed for Waller with a big effort at Kembla Grange. She has plenty up her sleeve and arrives in Brisbane on an 18-day return. Might need one more but we are getting good odds to find out. The Matt Laurie-trained Victorian HIYAAM PROUD (4) creates plenty of interest. Presents off an easy Maiden win at Geelong on debut over 1500m and he's trialled well at Rosehill since. Ethan Brown comes to ride and can control the race. Has a nice profile. TEXAS FIREBALL (3) failed to place twice in Group races in Sydney and was given some hope last time but resented the deep track. He won here over this distance before those and that effort stacks right up. Maloney going aboard is a positive. KADAVAR (5) spiked his figures winning at Doomben three back over a middle distance building on the debut win. After two unsuccessful tries in Sydney, Waller has switched him back to Brisbane on a 13-day turnaround. Has some weight relief and Orman rides.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Having something on Ring Me Up on an each-way basis.
6 02:53 XXXX Maiden Plate 1400m
Plenty of early pace with One Command and Flywheel showing the way. Heathcote-trained FLYWHEEL (4) spiked his figures missing a nose at Ipswich and then again beaten 3.4L in the Listed Daybreak Lover here. It was a commendable effort from a wide barrier. He's suited and rates to break through. Ciaron Maher has switched ONE COMMAND (7) from his Sydney barn and has a solid foundation for this contest. He will likely push forward and Maloney is a positive jockey engagement. ROSSO LEVANTO (12) settled last and was beaten a whisker at Rockhampton on debut. Draws awkwardly again but that's offset to an extent by Orman's booking. She's in a sharp yard and will keep improving. SKIEDA (13) peaks off a nose defeat at Toowoomba and was even better beaten 2.2L at Doomben prior. Maps for a soft run and she can't be ruled out.  SUGGESTED PLAY: With Flywheel.
7 03:28 MULLINS LAWYERS Class 5 Handicap 1500m
Strong tempo with Porky leading the way. BRAVE MASO (13) peaks and flies this course and distance. Rates well and sits at the bottom of the weights. Not a prolific winner but maps for a soft run and is sure to give a sight. BROOKHAVEN (2) didn't get into it last time from a wide barrier but won easily here prior as favourite. Has raced well at Group level and can enjoy a softer run. Kept on the fresh side and is a player. UNDER THE CAP (6) resumed a big winner at Rockhampton and hasn't missed a beat. The step-up to 1500m is ideal and Rodd is a key jockey booking. BEAN FOGGY (3) is capable of getting into the money if things go his way from the awkward barrier. PORKY (12) should be ready to show more and it's hard to risk the Gollan barn.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Going with Brave Maso.
8 04:03 LADBROKES EASY FORM Class 1 Handicap 1400m
Genuine pace with Boom In The Dark taking up the running ahead of Loose Unit. LOOSE UNIT (2) has been beaten a whisker at the Sunshine Coast both runs this preparation and his third-up record is sharp. Maloney stays aboard and that's a decent push for his chances. Started a short-priced favourite last time and can go one better. CARTWHEELS (9) was heavily bet winning an Ipswich Maiden by 5.3L on a heavy surface and resumed there on a soft track, beaten a half-length. She's promising and has been kept on the fresh side. The awkward gate will not be against if the track plays out. BOOM IN THE DARK (5) is in the premier barn and presents off an easy Doomben Maiden win when he led. The rails gate may or may not advantage but he has plenty of scope for improvement. SOUTH SEA (4) is progressive and maps for a soft run. Keep onside. PROSPERINA (13) resumed at monster odds at Doomben beaten 1.4L and it was a big effort from the wide barrier. She's improved and will be better again over the longer sprint. Goes in at a price.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Leaning to Loose Unit.
9 04:38 SOUTHS SPORTS CLUB BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1200m
Pace looks strong with Metalart pushing forward from an outside draw. RADIANT REMI (6) may be the best of the three acceptors from the Gollan yard. She has won 4/11 and was quickly back to form winning an Ipswich 65 on a heavy track. The gate should advantage and she performs second-up. The 3kg claim brings her right into it. Stablemate GREAT ASPIRATIONS (7) had too much to do last time and assess him on the comfortable Ipswich win prior. Keeps Maloney and can feature if the rail isn't off. METALART (9) seeks the hat-trick following a freshen and is sure to have plenty of admirers. Has the early speed to skip across from the sticky gate and is sure to give a sight. AMATHUBA (10) was well in the market but never a threat in a Doomben 70. Missed a nose here this grade prior as a $3.5 favourite and will appreciate her return to the more spacious track. The top hoop sticks aboard. SELOUS (8) maps well and is still shy of his peaks. Another with claims.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Leaning to Radiant Remi each way.
