NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:50 JAMES SQUIRE PLATE 1000m
Speed should be right on over the 1000m journey. Tricky race with most of these first starters on a wet track. First starter EMIRATE (2) for Waller/McDonald will surely come in for support. Hasn't been asked for a great deal at the trials, most recently finishing fourth behind today's rival Shalaa Gold over 900m at Rosehill. Betting the key. Godolphin's FREEZING (3) is an unraced colt by Frosted from a Street Cry mare who has thrown three winners, the pick of the bunch being Listed winner Gravina. Wasn't far away in a recent Canterbury trial so a bright start to his career is expected. MOONRAKER (7) found 900m a bit slick at Newcastle first-up. Can do better. INSIST (4) is trialling well for Michael Freedman and is worth keeping in mind on debut. SHALAA GOLD (8) defeated pre-post favourite Emirate in a recent trial so must come under consideration.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Leaning to Emirate but betting will tell the true story.
2 01:25 GOLDEN MILE @ DARLEY HANDICAP 1300m
Genuine tempo. STAR ACT (8) gets the nod in a plain affair. Has started at less than $3 at each run this prep but failed to salute, most recently making late ground to finish fourth over 1200m at Gosford. Handles the going and blinkers on for the first time might be the key to her success. DETERMINATION (3) made a sustained run from the back of the field to just miss the placings when resuming last start over 1400m at Newcastle. McDonald taking over is a positive sign. Likely improver. SHAMROCK SALLY (7) started favourite and worked home nicely but found one better when resuming over 1000m at Kembla recently. Should enjoy the longer trip so although untried in these conditions she looks well-placed to make an impact. SCISSOR ME TIMBERS (2) picked up late without threatening when fresh from a break over 1100m at Hawkesbury last time out. Each-way chance.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Star Act to break through.
3 02:00 TAB PLATE 1000m
Tricky one to map with a large contingent of unraced runners but expect plenty of early pressure. Inexperienced runners on a wet track makes this a bit of a lottery. COLLERETTE (4) heads a strong Waller contingent. Debuted a month ago over 900m at Newcastle on a heavy track and found the line well to get up for second. Can go one better over the slightly longer trip. GLORIOSO (15) made it four minor placings from as many starts when beaten under a length over 900m at Newcastle a fortnight ago on a soft track. Wide gate not an issue so she has strong prospects once again. CLEAN ENERGY (3) is a full sister to triple Group 1 winner Sunlight making her long-awaited debut. Trials suggest she is well above average. AMELITA (16) showed pace but knocked up on debut over 1100m at Rosehill. Should show more resistance this time around. LADY SHENANDOAH (9) is the likely favourite on debut. Half-sister to Group 1 winner Stronger from the Waller yard. Sure to be up for this.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Collerette each-way.
4 02:35 PETALUMA HANDICAP 1600m
Very little pace on paper. CABACA (5) was having just her second run since transferring to Chris Waller when a game second over 1550m at the Kensington track a fortnight ago. Like the engagement of Nash - looks ideally placed to open her NSW account. DESTINY'S DELIGHT (6) went to the front in a change of tactics and proceeded to score narrowly last time out on a soft track over 1500m at Kembla. Handy mare who should hold that form now. OFFSPRING (7) comes back in distance and class after disappointing at Wagga recently. Good wet tracker who has only missed the placings once in six runs at the mile. Expecting sharp improvement. Veteran FROM THE BUSH (3) has done nothing in two runs this prep but can make progress here with the blinkers on. TENDERIZE (8) has been about the mark of late. McDonald taking over is noteworthy.  SUGGESTED PLAY: This looks perfect for Cabaca.
5 03:10 EXCEEDANCE @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP 1000m
In A Step should lead and set an even tempo. AKAKA FALLS (1) is flying this prep, making it 2/2 for the campaign when he defied all challengers in open company over this distance at Orange last start. That appearance followed a seven-week let-up so he can improve off the run. The one to beat again. BOOMSONG (7) is first-up since August. Opened the last campaign with a gutsy win over this trip at Hawkesbury. Enjoys the going so plenty to like about his chances. STARS AND BARS (6) has been freshened up since retiring from a race at Wyong on 30 March. Subsequent trial winner with each-way claims. SMOKESHOW (5) finished 0.7 lengths behind Akaka Falls at Orange last time. Ready to peak third-up. RINGAROSA (2) has won two and placed once in four first-up runs, so she comes right under notice fresh from a 130-day break.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Akaka Falls to complete the hat-trick.
6 03:45 SCHWEPPES HANDICAP 1300m
Pace on from the outset with Convincebility, Huesca and Khumbila pushing forward, closely attended by The Little Pumper. HUESCA (1) stepped up to Saturday company and did a good job to finish third last start over 1300m at Rosehill. All his wins have come on rain affected ground. Has his share of weight but he should roll along near the lead and prove tough to catch against this opposition. CONVINCEBILITY (2) led but folded up in the Provincial Championship Final last time out over 1400m at Randwick. Back in his right race today so expect him to turn things around. THE LITTLE PUMPER (3) is back after a six-month spell. Mixed it with better types last prep and wasn't disgraced. Unproven in heavy going but if he gets through it a big return is on the cards. COOL LAD (12) did his best work late but was never a threat first-up over 1200m at Gosford. Capable of sharp improvement. BULLY FOR YOU (10) loves it wet and is worth an each-way investment.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Keen on Huesca.
7 04:20 DUNDEEL AT ARROWFIELD HANDICAP 1300m
Pace looks strong with There There going forward to take up the running. THERE THERE (9) had trouble finding clear galloping room before closing late to finish fifth when resuming over 1200m at Kembla last start. Strips fitter and will appreciate the extra 100m. Capable of testing this line-up. BETSY'S FLAG (14) settled a lot closer to the lead and boxed on well for second last Wednesday over 1200m at Canterbury. Enjoys getting the toe in and will be cherry ripe today at the third run back. DEFINING (2) started favourite but failed to run out a strong 1550m at the Kensington track recently. Very good wet tracker who comes under notice dropping back in distance. WAIKIKI (10) was unsuited dropping back to 1100m at Canterbury seven days ago. In the mix back up in trip. PIPPIE BEACH (17) impressed last start at Kembla when lining up for only the second time. Capable of taking this next step.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing There There and Betsy's Flag.
