NUM TIME COMMENT
1 11:38 STRADBROKE CALCUTTA ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 1815m
A stack of early pressure, primarily from Dark Harmony and Wowit's Willywonka. CONNECTICUT (7) led and tried hard but was overhauled close to home in a Bm68 over this course and distance last Saturday. Up a little in grade but drops 3.5 kgs. Will be tough to catch. LONG GENES (8) comes to Queensland after a couple of indifferent runs over shorter trips in NSW recently. Raced once over nine furlongs last prep and was beaten just two lengths in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes at Randwick. Big chance on that form. SOLAR APEX (1) tackled open company here at today's journey last time out and was only beaten 1.1 lengths. Has a big weight but back in this company he poses a genuine threat. DARK HARMONY (4) will probably lead and can give a sight although on trial at this trip.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Like Connecticut.
2 12:13 MOUNT FRANKLIN BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 2400m
Hadouken is likely to roll to the lead and set a decent tempo. SHEZADANDI (10) stoked up late to grab second in a similar race to this two starts back carrying 3kgs more. Just fair in a subsequent outing at Doomben but back in this scenario she makes great appeal. PORT MOURANT (9) was slow out of the gates and never raised backers' hopes over 1820m here last time out. Needs this trip at the fourth run back and a significant weight drop on last start helps. CLYDE (2) stalked the pace and went on to record a game win over 2200m at Doomben a fortnight ago. Sure to be thereabouts again. A DEEL OF HUMOUR (4) caught the eye in the closing stages at Doomben last time. In the mix over an extra furlong on the bigger track.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Shezadandi.
3 12:48 STRADBROKE SEASON BOOK NOW QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1200m
Solid tempo with Hamilton Brown leading from Mishani Fire and Overfull.  MISHANI FIRE (9) enjoyed a nice run from the inside gate then quickened impressively to win her maiden over 1000m on the Sunshine Coast poly last start. Getting better with racing and can go on with the job. JEMOMA ALPILAGE (12) has been cursed with wide gates in her two runs this prep, most recently over this course and distance when she worked home in good style to get up for third. Should settle closer from the much better draw and she looks ready to break through. SUPERALLOY (1) has been freshened up since an impressive second in the $500k Aquis Jewel over this distance on the Gold Coast seven weeks ago. Subsequent trial winner who has the class to test these if forward enough. ALPHA BRAVO (3) chased the highly impressive Mishani Lily home over 1110m at Doomben a fortnight back. Wide gate is a worry but he is a progressive colt with solid claims. HAMILTON BROWN (2) won on debut at $1.20 on the Gold Coast poly last time. Huge step up but he is clearly talented.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Mishani Fire and Jemoma Alpilage.
4 01:23 SKY RACING BENCHMARK 75 Handicap 1400m
Despite the wide draw Extraordinaire should cross and set a genuine tempo.  STARRY EYES (11) has raced well all prep without winning. Went back to last from a wide alley in a big field last Saturday over this course and distance before closing late to grab third. Cherry ripe and gets a bit of weight relief today. Big chance in a hard race. BRENTWOOD (1) returned to form last start when a game second over 1350m at Doomben. On-pacer who can overcome the wide gate. Just one placing in five visits to Eagle Farm is the concern. EVOCATOR (2) was six weeks between runs when midfield over 1350m at Doomben a fortnight ago, coming from last on the bend. Far better placed on this bigger track so with added fitness he poses a serious threat. Ciaron Maher's SCENTIFY (5) has bumped into two classy stablemates in his two runs this Autumn. Good fresh performer coming here off an eight-week let-up. Must be respected. POETIC DRAMA (8) caught the eye first-up at Doomben and she always performs better here.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Starry Eyes each-way in a very deep race.
5 01:58 TOM TRESTON BENCHMARK 90 Handicap 1300m
Rejoiced and Bettcha The Crown are the likely leaders from wide draws at a good clip. OUR MAGNUS (15) started favourite and looked to have his chance when out of the placings over 1350m at Ipswich last start. Better suited on this bigger track and he drops a massive 6kgs today. Rock hard fit and ready to win. OVIDIUS (8) had been racing well without winning in open company then appreciated the drop in grade when successful last time out over 1200m here. Hasn't raced for five weeks which is a small query but he is very honest and should give a good account. Veteran MAGIC CHARLEE (5) disappointed over 1400m here last start. Has a fine record at this trip so from a better gate today he deserves another chance. NASHIRA (10) has drawn poorly but is fitter for two runs back from a spell and should be charging home.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Our Magnus to bounce back and score.
6 02:33 LADBROKES MICK DITTMAN PLATE 1000m
Malaboom should lead but there are a few other speedy types who can keep her honest.  Lightly raced filly HIP HIP HURRAH (11) comes here off a couple of decent runs at Group 3 level in Melbourne this prep. Showed pace but weakened late in her most recent outing over 1200m at Moonee Valley. Makes plenty of appeal coming back to Listed company over a shorter trip. Three-time stakes winner CIFRADO (1) returns from a 15-week break. Just missed the placings here at this trip when fresh from a spell last prep, then progressed to win the Group 3 Rough Habit over 1350m later in the campaign. Recent trial winner who should make his presence felt. Smart filly SKIRT THE LAW (7) is back after a seven-month absence. Flew late to just miss in the 1100m Quezette at Caulfield first-up last prep. Big trial winner on 11 April so she looks ready to run. MALABOOM (10) has been kept fresh since being edged out here five weeks ago at today's journey. Listed winner with definite claims from the nice draw. ABOUNDING (6) is a gun when fresh and cannot be left out.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Hip Hip Hurrah each-way in a strong race.
7 03:08 XXXX BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1000m
Strong early tempo assured with Osamu and Frilled locking horns. BEZIQUE (15) is a progressive mare who last appeared when she finished down the track on Millions Day in January. Opened last prep with three straight wins including a dominant display to kick things off over 1050m at Doomben. Sure to be there at the finish. SHALAA'S MOMENT (12) added to her imposing record when she came from last with a barnstorming run to score with a bit in hand over this course and distance three weeks ago. Will need a similar effort here from the wide alley but she keeps improving and is up to the task. VODKA MARTINI (5) returns from an eight-month spell. Won three on the trot to close the last prep, including a soft win in a Bm78 here at this distance. Trialling well and he has the talent to test this field. The speedy OSAMU (2) comes back a little in class today and should be prominent for a long way. Sydney mare FRILLED (7) is back from a nine-week spell. Nosed out first-up last prep by Brudenell who was competitive in an Oakleigh Plate at his next run.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Bezique each-way in a quality sprint.
8 03:47 MORETON HIRE BRISBANE MILE QUALITY Handicap 1600m
Avenue Of Stars and Russian Warrior will press forward early in a keen battle for top spot. The JIMMYSSTAR (5) bubble burst in the Newcastle Stakes on 8 March when he finished midfield at $1.80. Maher has hit the reset button on the four-year-old who is possibly heading for bigger riches this Winter. Can bounce back. DUNE FORTY FIVE (6) found 1350m at Doomben too sharp first-up. Good miler with plenty of improvement in store. OSCAR ZULU (3) is racing well without winning. Each-way chance at odds.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Jimmysstar for the win.
9 04:23 AQUIS STALLIONS PRINCESS STAKES 1600m
Strong early tempo likely with several going forward, headed by Torabella. Chris Waller's FIRESTORM (11) has returned in good order. Won a mid-weeker at the Kensington track first-up then closed well to be beaten under two lengths in the Group 3 Carbine Club over the Randwick Mile during the Championships. Just needs luck from the tricky draw to be right in the finish. WAIKATO GIRL (9) ran on nicely for third in the Group 3 Kembla Classic over this trip before struggling at ten furlongs in the Adrian Knox last time. Back to her right distance and the blinkers go on so it will be no surprise to see her bounce back. MISS JOELENE (3) has impressed at both runs this time in work, albeit against easier opposition. Very fit and looks ready for another crack at the mile. PIER PRESSURE (5) steps up sharply in grade on her last start second over this distance at Warwick Farm. Did fill a placing in Militarize's Inglis Sires' so she is capable on her day. Last Saturday's Daybreak Lover winner EXOTIQUE MISS (2) continues to improve and cannot be left out.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Keen on Firestorm each-way at nice odds.
