No surprise if the debutants played a key role in the tempo of the race with little speed on paper. The speedy JENNI BASSETT (7) was beaten a half-length on the heavy surface at Geelong and then was well supported at The Heath over a mile on a good track and didn't finish it off. Comes back 185m today in a bit easier and she's worth another chance. ROGUE WARRIOR (3) made good progress beaten 1L over 1400m at Werribee. Maps well and Egan rides. He's sure to keep improving. RATHLIN EXPRESS (2) has had good support his two most recent runs but has been frustrated by wide barriers. Draws ideally today, and if he found his best, he'd be tough to beat. Wary of RAZANNE (8), who debuts for a top metro yard. Has been well educated and jumps from an inside gate. A bold effort is likely. Fellow debutant PACIFIC REEL (1) is also in good hands. Has the ace draw and Nolen sticks from a placed jumpout at Pakenham. SUGGESTED PLAY: Giving the hard-fit Jenni Bassett another chance.
