Ali Star is the likely leader and should be able to get there comfortably. RAY'S AWAKE (3) steps up to a middle distance for the first time after a couple of sound efforts to open this season. Daniel Bothamley is a positive jockey change, and in a field that is not very strong, he is the one to beat. AUTUMN BREEZE (1) was not far away at Cromwell 3 weeks ago over 1400m, and he will relish getting out to a middle distance for the first time. He can settle a touch closer than usual and should be right in the finish here. SPARKY (2) suffered a cardiac arrhythmia during his last run at Riccarton and has been given plenty of time to get over that run. He was at the improving stage of his prep before that, and if he doesn't need the hit-out, he can figure in the top 4 again. CAPTAIN DAVO (4) did not have the best of runs when finishing fifth at Cromwell 3 weeks ago, when backing up quickly from a sound effort on the first day there. He is another with top 4 claims in this modest field. AUDITOR (6) will be nearing his peak fitness, and is not out of this at odds. SUGGESTED PLAY: Ray's Awake and Autumn Breeze can quinella this race.
