NUM TIME COMMENT
1 12:20 SKY RACING MOTHER'S GIFT 1400m
Looks a decent tempo with Lady Lucifer, Spirits Burn Deep and Picasso's Dream leading the charge. LAUREL HILL (1) was racing well in Sydney then travelled to Newcastle last start and performed poorly over this trip in a BM68. Finds an easier assignment today and jumps from a far better gate so a return to form is on the cards at lucrative odds. OCEAN ALPS (5) ran a nice race in open company over this distance at the Gold Coast two back then put in a shocker at Ipswich last time. Trialled satisfactorily since. Best form stacks up so give her another chance. LADY LUCIFER (2) travelled in front and defied all challengers at her latest appearance over 1350m at Doomben in a BM70. Loves this trip and there is further improvement to come at just the third run of the prep. HELLCIBELL (7) dropped right out at Tamworth last start but might be looking for 1400m at this stage. HULU (3) has an enviable record at this distance and is in the mix off a five-week freshen up.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Laurel Hill each-way.
2 12:55 THE PROVEDORES COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 1 SHOWCASE HANDICAP 1400m
Strong tempo with Comic Culture likely to hold the lead from the rails draw, joined by The Big Ticket. COMIC CULTURE (2) has enjoyed a five-week let-up since closing well to finish second in a Class 2 over 1280m on the Canberra Acton track. Drops back a level today and gets all the favours from the inside alley. Will race handy and give a great sight. HERALD ANGEL (4) has found the line well to fill minor placings at both runs this prep, the latest over 1350m at Casino. Cherry ripe and with a bit of luck from the poor gate she can feature in the finish. ALMOST MAYBE (5) had a month between runs before his eye-catching third over 1215m at this track recently. Strips fitter and is sure to play a key role. UNO FRED (9) made a long run from the tail of the field to finish midfield over 1200m at Tamworth last start. In the mix out to this trip. SATIN AND CASH (7) gets back so might need luck extracting from the fence at some stage. Recent form hard to knock.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Comic Culture to score.
3 01:35 VILLAGE GREEN HOTEL BENCHMARK 66 SHOWCASE HANDICAP 1000m
From the outside draw Dizzy Dee spears to the lead and sets a slick tempo. HEY DAISY (8) won a Class 2 over this trip at the Gold Coast two back then followed that up with a very good second over 1110m at Doomben last time. Should slide across and enjoy a lovely run in transit just behind the leading division. Has the right profile to take this out. SOOBOOCO (7) made a rare visit to the winner's enclosure recently when he led all the way to score comfortably over 1050m at Inverell. No favours done at the barrier draw which is a concern but he should be thereabouts. MANPOWER (15) started at $1.70 but found a couple better when resuming over this distance at Toowoomba last start. Lightly raced three-year-old with a fine record at 1000m. Must be considered. DEBUSSY (1) has his share of weight but is good enough to test this field at the second run back. WHERE'S THE FIRE (12) is fresh from a 50-day let-up. Form prior to that reset makes for good reading.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Hey Daisy to win.
4 02:10 NBN NEWS SPRINGBOARD TO FAME 2YO SHOWCASE PLATE 1175m
In the small field Airborne Affair and Acqua Romane are expected to take up the running. ROYAL EXILE (8) is a promising juvenile back from a five-month spell. The maiden prep was highlighted by a close second in a metro quality 1200m race at Wyong at the second career run. Looked good in a recent Taree trial so a bright return is on the cards. SLIPPIN' AWAY (9) resumed with an effortless all-the-way victory recently over 1015m at this track. Has only been to the races twice so there is a stack of upside. AIRBORNE AFFAIR (2) started at $1.90 and got the job done on debut last start at Rockhampton. Kept fresh and should not be underestimated. ZEE FIRE (13) produced a real eye-catcher on debut here behind Slippin' Away 11 days ago. Can improve enough to turn the tables. TRIPLE SEVEN (1) is an Astern gelding on debut. Showing plenty at the trials and the early money suggests a strong performance is anticipated.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Royal Exile has the class to take this out.
5 02:50 CORBETT CIVIL THE BIG SUPER MAIDEN SHOWCASE PLATE 1175m
Nothing to run them along so the pace looks even at best. BY THE WAY (5) is back for a second campaign after a five-month lay-off. Started favourite at both runs in the maiden campaign, the best effort a closing third over a similar trip to this at the Gold Coast on debut. Has the ability to play a key role. SHE'S A DAME (13) raced exclusively at the provincials last prep and was competitive each time she went around. Has been in the money at all three first-up runs so she must be respected coming off an 11-week break. The Matt Dunn-trained ZALIQUE (16) returns after a 193-day spell. Two runs in the maiden prep were just fair but his trial form in preparation for today's return has been outstanding. Looks to be in for a bright campaign. Recent Sunshine Coast trial inner FIERY LASS (7) resumes. Opened last prep with a placing at Kembla so expect her to be competitive here. JENNIBELLE (9) is back after a 15-week lay-off. All four runs in the maiden prep were sound efforts. Must be considered coming out of the inside alley.  SUGGESTED PLAY: The main hopes all resume which makes it tough - By The Way gets the nod.
6 03:25 FIDELITY CAPITAL COUNTRY BOOSTED BELFLYER CLASS 6 SHOWCASE PLATE 1175m
A solid tempo is on the cards with Patrioticintention and Pleasurize pushing for the lead ahead of Flying Shelly and Next Pay Run. Very open affair. HOUSE OF CARDS (8) is back after a ten-week break. Last appeared in a BM82 over 1405m at Coffs Harbour and proved a shade too strong. Good fresh performer who gets every chance to add to that record from a favourable gate. PLEASURIZE (13) overcame a tardy beginning to score with authority last time out over 1080m at the Canberra Acton circuit. Building a nice record and is a chance again but will need a 10/10 ride from the wide gate. TARTAGLIA (16) appreciated a five-week break before scoring at Gosford recently over 1100m. Capable of a repeat performance on a seven-day back-up. Consistent sprinter TOUGH GUY (11) has been beaten narrowly at his last couple and can win this without surprising. RAVALLI (5) has been finding the line well in Canberra and looks a threat with Nash urging him along.  SUGGESTED PLAY: House Of Cards each-way.
7 04:05 WESTLAWN FINANCE GRAFTON CUP 2350m
Kaluakoi should lead and control the tempo. KING PEDRO (11) is a progressive stayer who was given a perfect ride and proved far too strong for a BM90 field over 2400m at Rosehill last start. Showed promise as a three-year-old and is just starting to realise his potential. Clearly the one to beat. ENCODER (1) tried hard but was beaten under a length in the Ipswich Cup over 2150m at his last appearance 26 days ago. Races well with the runs spaced. The last 100m is his worry but too classy to ignore. ETNA ROSSO (3) kept grinding away to get up for third in the Group 3 2400m Tatts Cup at Eagle Farm recently. Dour customer with eight top-three finishes in stakes races. Has the quality to take this out. SO YOU ARE (5) ran a promising stayer in Thebudgiesmugla to 0.6 lengths in the Caloundra Cup last start. Will run this trip right out. POUNDING (2) has forgotten how to win but his recent long-neck defeat by the classy Asterix was full of merit.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Keen on King Pedro.
8 04:40 SIR JAMES KIRBY QUALITY 1000m
Plenty of pace from Chandon Star, The Wolf and Zoutastic matching motors ahead of Mister Bianco. EMPEROR (3) has been freshened up since finishing well back in the Lightning over today's journey at Eagle Farm six weeks ago. Races best with the runs well spaced. Poses a big threat with a soft run assured from an inside alley. TECTONIC PLATE (9) tried hard but found the in-form My Mum's Toyboy a bit too strong over 1190m here recently. Genuine mare who won't mind coming back in trip. Drawn to play a key role. DUROVA (7) is back after a nine-week break. Has won three from five when fresh from a spell and four from six at 1000m. Hard to ignore those credentials. MISTER BIANCO (6) trialled well at Deagon recently and looks ready to make a positive return after 131 days in the paddock. ZOUTASTIC (10) wasn't beaten all that far when fresh from a spell at Randwick last start. Good each-way hope down in the weights.  SUGGESTED PLAY: Emperor to take out the last race of the Carnival.
