Vale Peta Tait 2YO Maiden Plate 1210m
Many of these step out for the first time so a genuine tempo is expected. Tricky and the market is sure to be instructive. BEST OF THE BEST (1) debuts for a leading metro yard and has prepared well enough to suggest this is winnable. Melham is a key jockey engagement, and he was aboard the colt in one of his three jumpouts. The stable can get them going early, and a bolt run is likely. Fellow debutant GODTFRED KIRK (4) is also in a sharp metro hands and looks ready to go. He's jumped out well, and Stackhouse sticks from the first on them. Draws awkwardly but should be good enough to manage. WISHFUL THINKER (9) won two jumpouts but disappointed at Bendigo on debut, well-supported (vet cleared). Waterhouse-Bott have put the blinkers straight on and with the extra fitness and learning, a much better effort is anticipated. HIMALAYAN (11) debuted in better class and didn't get into it after a slow off. She looked good in a recent jumpout, and it won't surprise to see her race well first-up. PARAK (6) can go better on the turf and keep onside. SUGGESTED PLAY: Best Of The Best on what we've seen. |

Sale Cup: Save the date 26th Oct Maiden Plate 1110m
Many of these step out for the first time so a genuine tempo is expected. Another tricky race. FROSTED BLAZE (13) debuts and has won his three most recent jumpouts. Maps for the run of the race, and Currie is engaged. He's in a smart barn and a bold run is likely, SEMELLE ROUGE (14) debuts for a leading metro stable and has looked sharp in her jumpouts. Draws wide, but she looks to have plenty of ability and expect her to feature. GRASSBURN (7) resumes for the premier yard and is the best of the raced division. She's placed 2/2 fresh and has raced well in stronger Maidens. She's had two jumpouts and Brown rides - a leading course/stable striker. CHAMP'S QUEEN (6) debuts and has jumped out well enough to deserve consideration. SUGGESTED PLAY: Frosted Blaze on what we've seen. |

Ladbrokes Owners Bonus Maiden 1523m
Strong early tempo with Sparkels Dior and The Pen Is Mighty leading the way. CHRONIC (2) came off three runs on the synthetic and spiked his figures when beaten 3.6L in an Open 3 at Flemington. That's good form, and he just has to hold it to prove hard to beat. Draws low and the extra metres suit. THE PEN IS MIGHTY (7) resumes, and the former Kiwi creates interest. He's been gelded and has jumped out well. Draws for a soft run and he's shown enough to consider. MANHATTAN EMPIRE (6) resumed off a long break at Cranbourne and wasn't beaten far over 1400m. He was well supported and maps well. Stripping fitter he can improve into the frame. LOTS TO LOVE (5) resumes for a leading yard and has jumped out well at Flemington. Keep very safe. SUGGESTED PLAY: Chronic on top. |

Laurels Function Centre Maiden Plate 2238m
Expecting Izola to lead Siege Perilous at just a moderate tempo. SIEGE PERILOUS (5) is in a leading metro yard and is the threat. He disappointed heavily bet at Geelong back in trip but brought strong form to that. Peaks now and over the longer distance is worth another chance. WINDY PEAK (11) spiked her figures when beaten 1.4L here over this distance. Draws awkwardly, but won't have to improve much to fight out the finish. Ben Melham sticks with the Waller-trained WILLIE SUNSHINE (6), and we are likely to see more over this journey. He has more to give and he goes in. IZOLA (8) hasn't shown much this campaign but will strip fitter third-up and could sneak a place with some luck. SUGGESTED PLAY: Going with Siege Perilous. |

Carlton Draught BM64 Handicap 2238m
Genuine tempo with the speedy The Storyteller leading the way. Tough. THE STORYTELLER (1) deserved his win here this grade and trip and then raced over stronger and longer at Sandown-Hillside and found it a bit of a stretch. This suits better and Stackhouse stays aboard and will give him every chance from an inside barrier. ENGELINE (7) got too far back at Wangaratta, but her form leading into that reads well. She's jumped out well at Flemington since and will get every chance from a handy gate. WEST INDIES (2) won over this trip at Bairnsdale, enjoying a cosy run from an inside barrier. He's right up to this and is a decent chance to repeat. CLINCHED (5) was quickly back on track just missing in the same contest. Has to manage a wide barrier again, but Rawiller sticks. The blinkers go on again, and he can be in the finish with average luck. SUGGESTED PLAY: Leaning to The Storyteller. |

Fantasy Cocktails BM64 Handicap 1110m
Keen tempo with Gentle Steel and I'm Cheeky prominent. MISS COTOLETTA (9) brought strong metro form to resumption and didn't finish it off at a short quote. She wasn't far away in a Metro 64 at Gawler following and she's been scratched at the barriers since. Draws awkwardly, but this is a winnable assignment if she's presented on song. SIOUX SPIRIT (1) disappointed in stronger at Sandown-Hillside but was good winning at this level at Bendigo prior. She just missed her only start here and has won 3/4 this trip. Needs a good ride but a bounce is on the cards. GRINZINGER LOVE (3) will push forward and always puts in. The easy win at Kilmore two back stacks right up. RAVEN'S SILVER (4) bounced back to winning form at Wangaratta last start and rates a chance in this field. SUGGESTED PLAY: Leaning to Miss Cotoletta. |

Ladbrokes Form Genius BM64 Handicap 1423m
Keen tempo with I Am War and Vianarra prominent. Competitive JUSTDOIT (3) found her best form beaten 1.8L at Sandown-Hillside in stronger than this. Peaks now and Ben Melham staying aboard is a decent push for her chances. Draws awkwardly but will be tough to beat with average luck. WALK OF FAME (8) just missed a place at Sandown-Lakeside a month ago, also in stronger. She also draws out, but has more up her sleeve and fitter is a chance. GRINZINGER EARL (4) is tracking well and maps for a soft run. He's proven third-up and will get every hope. BATTAGLIA (2) went close this track/trip, spiking his figures. He has a tough gate, but only has to hold that form to feature. SUGGESTED PLAY: Going with Justdoit. |

Gippsland Funeral Services BM64 Handicap 1740m
Plenty of pace evident with Royal Hill and Shezavixen leading the way from Another Nephew and Tabor. MAXXI BON (13) improved again missing a nose at Bendigo over a mile. He's proven third-up and is a player. Laurie-trained TAKA SPEED (7) finished over the top of them when winning a Cranbourne on debut and impressed. The longer trip shouldn't prove an issue and with the extra fitness he's capable of taking the next step. SHEZAVIXEN (11) missed a whisker over a mile at Moe first-up and and she's raced in better city class since. Comes back in trip and she can use the inside barrier. Ben Melham replaces the 3kg apprentice and that's a decent push for her chances. ANOTHER NEPHEW (5) hasn't made an impression this campaign but can sneak into the finish here. SUGGESTED PLAY: Maxxi Bon appeals most. |
