SOUTHERN ASSET SERVICES COUNTRY BOOSTED BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1600m
Keith has good early speed and can set a decent tempo. SOUL TAKER (4) has been about the mark at both runs this prep, the latest offering a close fourth over this distance at Canberra. Improved sharply at the third run back when last in work to score over a mile at Tamworth. Has a nice sense of timing. SAINT LOFT (5) got a long way back and never looked a chance in a Class 2 over 1400m here 13 days ago. Down in grade today and is looking for the mile. Big chance with the help of the inside gate. MAYFAIR HOTEL (7) did her best work late to get up for fourth over today's journey at Wagga recently. Up in class but drops 6kgs with the claim and should be peaking after two runs back. DOWNTOWN'S ABBEY (3) led but failed to run out a strong 2200m at Dubbo last start. Won a Class 1 over this distance at Cootamundra three starts ago - big chance on that form. KEITH (1) has a fine record at the mile and goes well here. Likely leader who will be tough to catch. SUGGESTED PLAY: Soul Taker on top in a competitive race. |

ACE RADIO 2AY COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m
Anticipating good early pressure over the sprint course with many of these facing the starter for the first time. SAIL BY (9) is back from a five-month spell. Showed ability last prep albeit over longer trips. Best figure was achieved in an 1175m race at this track when beaten under two lengths. Trained here and has the ability to run well at odds in this mediocre affair. First starter THE UNIQUE STAR (3) won a trial at Goulburn on 9 November. Only needs to bring that level of performance to race day to be a serious threat - the market hasn't missed him. TYPHOON ROMANCE (11) is back from an 11-week spell. Hasn't shown a great deal in three runs to date. Did meet with good support first-up last prep which suggests he might have more to offer. SUPER JULES (6) on debut for the Gary Colvin stable is worth keeping an eye on with the help of the inside gate. STORMY WOO (2) is another one to monitor on debut. Both siblings to race won six races apiece so he probably has ability. SUGGESTED PLAY: Sail By each-way. |

DUX ALBURY MAIDEN PLATE 1400m
Expecting a strong early tempo with Under The Hat and The Cuban locking horns from their inside draws. THE CUBAN (5) made it two nail-biting defeats on the bounce when edged out over this distance at Gundagai on Sunday after racing wide throughout. Like the quick back-up and the blinkers going on. Draws the fence so a long-awaited maiden win might come calling. HOT ONE (10) has been competitive in all three runs to date, most recently when 1.5 lengths adrift in a maiden over this course and distance. Sure to give a good account again. CANNY DEFENSE (3) has placed 2/2 over 1400m at this circuit including 13 days ago when he was strong late. Chance again from a better draw. DESERT OPAL (7) hasn't been beaten far at his last two runs, most recently when runner-up in a small field over the mile at Corowa. Back in trip but the blinkers should sharpen him up. SWINGING HIGH (13) surprised most when a game third over 1175m here last time out. Fitter and needs this longer trip now. SUGGESTED PLAY: The Cuban to grab a well-deserved win. |

REDI2HIRE MAIDEN PLATE 1175m
A keen early contest likely with Tomanado and Hustler's Ambition pushing for the lead with Bella Akeed and Overimpatient on their backs. BESSIE LA BELLE (13) progressed nicely last start when lining up for the second time, making good late ground to be beaten under a length over this course and distance. Draws a far better gate today and McDougall replaces a 1.5kg claimer. Ready to win. BELLA AKEED (9) overcame an awkward jump to close well and finish fifth last time out over 1200m at Echuca. Plenty of improvement to come and gets all the favours from the inside alley. TRIBAL LANDS (12) ran a better race last start when he came from last to get up for second over 1200m at Echuca. Might travel closer with the blinkers on for the first time today and is a definite threat. RIVERBEND UNICORN (3) is back from a 19-week spell. Filled minor placings at the first two runs of the maiden campaign, both here at this trip. Must be respected. TOMANADO (4) was poor last start but might improve over this longer trip. SUGGESTED PLAY: Keen on Bessie La Belle. |

ATURA ALBURY BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP 1000m
Fast pace assured with Showies Best Shot, Time Angel and Keysborough leading the charge. BRENLYN'S DAISY (6) disappointed at a short quote first-up at Leeton but bounced back last start to score impressively over 1200m at Wodonga. Kept fresh so coming back a furlong in trip is not a concern. Only needs luck from the wide alley to be winning again. TIME ANGEL (10) returned from a two-month break with a modest fifth last time out over this distance at Corowa. This doesn't look as tough so with a kilo less from a decent gate he makes plenty of appeal. PRETTY PENGUIN (8) raced handy and was a shade too good in a Class 3 over today's journey at Corowa recently. Goes well for Hannah Edgley who keeps the ride. Big chance again. SHOOTING FOR STARS (5) is racing well in better company. Can play a major role. NATIVE LEAF (4) is back sharply in distance but might sneak into the top four. SUGGESTED PLAY: Brenlyn's Daisy to win again. |

ALBURY PLUMBING SERVICE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1175m
Solid tempo likely from the outset with a number of speedy beginners engaged, most notably Star Blazer. STUBBYHOLLER (2) is back from a four-month spell and wears blinkers for the first time. Opened last prep with a barnstorming win over 1100m at Wangaratta. Placed 3/3 at this distance and draws the perfect gate so everything points towards a strong return. MENTALIA (3) won his first two race starts then found the company at Caulfield last time a bit rich. Back in his right race and well in after the claim so expect a return to form. NO QUARANTINE (4) had a one-month let-up before turning in a better performance last start over 1206m at Benalla. Placed 3/4 here at this journey so must go in the numbers. JASKIER (8) returned to form in a Class 1 here at this trip last time. Worth considering at huge odds. STAR BLAZER (1) did nothing first-up at Berrigan but gets a host of gear changes today and his second-up record is far better. SUGGESTED PLAY: Stubbyholler to win first-up. |

THE ESSENTIAL UTENSIL CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1400m
Via Vegas should lead but there are a few other speedy types who can keep him honest. VIA VEGAS (8) broke his maiden in good style last start, stalking the pace then letting down impressively over 1206m at Benalla. Fitter for two runs back from a spell and should have no trouble getting the extra furlong. PEARL TROUT (7) loomed up on straightening then took over soon after and was a shade too good in a 1300m Corowa maiden 17 days ago. Lightly raced mare who can go to the next level here. MR MARRAKECH (4) has transferred from Moody/Coleman to Craig Widdison since finishing a close third over 1469m at Kyneton a month ago. Wide gate a concern but good enough to play a role. WHITEHART (11) flew late but missed by a whisker when resuming over 1200m at Wagga recently. Good second-up performer who will relish the extra journey this afternoon. HOFF TO SEA (9) impressed over this distance at Corowa last start and from a good gate deserves plenty of thought. SUGGESTED PLAY: This looks ideal for Via Vegas. |
