Very strong early tempo primarily from Madenyo, Grinzinger Ace and Kathy's Beau over Vail Mountain and Capricorn Star. VAIL MOUNTAIN (2) is an impressive five-year-old who has only raced five times, winning the last two. Settled on the speed and was a shade too strong most recently in a BM64 over 1500m at Sandown. Gets in with a similar weight after the claim so the hat-trick is on the cards. On-pacer KATHY'S BEAU (6) is racing well without winning. Led until the dying stages when runner-up over 1500m at Bendigo last start. Always a threat in this sort of race. TOP HONOURS (3) hasn't landed a blow in his two runs this prep, both over shorter trips against better opposition. Well treated at this level with the claim and out to this distance third-up he looks a chance at odds. JESSUP (5) ended a run of three wins when outclassed at Flemington recently. Loves this circuit so give him another chance. Last start maiden winner CAPRICORN STAR (7) takes a leap in class this evening but is lightly raced and heading the right way. SUGGESTED PLAY: Keen on Vail Mountain.
