Speed anticipated from Son Of Coco, Severn Road and Amity Val. Amity Val, Severn Road and Son Of Coco will have a battle royale for the lead. This will be a truly run middle distance test. There are few more consistent provincial gallopers than MAC'S METTLE who is the testing material. Drove hard to find the lead last start then staved off the challengers when a narrow winner over 1700m at Warrnambool. That followed a string of eight placings. Has never been tested at this trip but is tough as teak so confident he will run it out. POPPIHOLLA ran on powerfully to grab second over the Bendigo mile two runs back. Didn't find the line with as much gusto last time over the same trip; is looking for this distance now. The form of SON OF COCO has spiked since he has taken on the role of pacemaker. Placed over 1700m two runs back then led all the way for a decisive 3.8L victory over 1400m at Hamilton in a BM70 recently. Down in grade here and on a five day back up so not too concerned over the sharp step back up in distance. Severn Road is genuine and looks well placed here. SUGGESTED PLAY: Tricky race and looking to play the exotics numbers: 1,9,3,4,7.
