THE VERDICT MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400m Track: SOFT 5 Clear (Max: 19) True |

---|---|---|---|---|
Good early pressure for top spot with Specula or Tarkine likely to take up the running. The scratching of Rockbarton Icon paves the way for STARPOPPY (4) who has been about the mark at all three runs this prep, the latest offering a close fifth over today's trip at Wellington. Again draws wide but with a bit of luck can break the duck in an average maiden. THE FAVORITE SON (12) found the mile at Hawkesbury beyond him last time out. Placed 2/3 at seven furlongs and he is better placed back in a country maiden. SPECULA (5) battled on evenly to finish fifth when resuming over 1200m at Tamworth four weeks ago. New to this journey but she is lightly raced and worth following. SACRED MISTRESS (2) appreciated the step up in trip when runner-up over 1305m at Tuncurry recently. Cherry ripe now and certainly in contention. SO NEWCHEE THINKS(3) first-up from the Kris Lees camp is sure to have admirers. SUGGESTED PLAY: Backing Starpoppy.
