PORT CITY BOWLING CLUB CG&E MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
Genuine tempo with The Big Ticket and Wan Lost pressing for the lead.
WAN LOST (6) opened his career with a couple of close seconds then went to town last start and struggled to compete over today's trip at Rosehill. Back in his right grade today and this presents a great chance for the breakthrough win. ROCKBARTON SPEAR (9) couldn't go with them early but stoked up in the closing stages to finish fourth on debut over 900m at Newcastle 16 days ago. Far better placed over today's journey. Not drawn the best but with even luck he can play a key role. HELLFIGHTER (7) is back after a five-month spell. Best of three runs in the maiden campaign was a fast-finishing second over 1400m at Scone. One to watch for late in proceedings. LONGCHAMP LAD (3) recently returned from a 15-month absence with an encouraging effort over 900m at Newcastle where he found the line with gusto. Sure to derive great benefit from that hit-out. CARMINE (1) disappointed first-up as a short-priced favourite at Taree. Deserves another chance. SUGGESTED PLAY: Wan Lost to win the opener. |

JOHN OXLEY MOTORS F&M MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
No recognised leader lining up so expect a moderate tempo.
TURNING CIRCLE (5) returns after a seven-month lay-off. In the money at seven of her 14 runs, including two from three when fresh from a spell. Has a decent record at this trip so with any luck from the tricky gate she might have found the right race to finally open the account. FASHION SPREE (8) travelled worse than midfield then closed well to finish fourth when resuming over 1000m at Tuncurry last time out. Yet to find the frame in five starts but from gate one today she looks well placed to build on that decent first-up performance. PRATIBHA (11) was in commission but a shade disappointing on debut recently over this distance at Coffs Harbour. Worth another chance with the Lees stable popping on the blinkers. ON ANY TUESDAY (10) resumes. Widely travelled last prep and wasn't far away in her three runs. Recent trial winner who looks set for a positive return. CZECH HER OUT (6) gets blinkers for the first time and will find this easier than her last couple at the provincials. SUGGESTED PLAY: Turning Circle is nicely placed to break the ice. |

FLOWER HOTELS COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m
Alby's Mate has good early speed and can set a decent tempo.
ALL INKED UP (1) struck a heavy track on debut at Tuncurry back in September when he did a fair job to be beaten only two lengths over this trip. Has had one quiet trial since that only race day appearance. Trained here and should be ready to make a positive return. ALBY'S MATE (2) returned after nearly a year off the scene with an encouraging third over this distance at Muswellbrook last start. Speedy customer who has been in the money at four of his eight runs. Back in good order and should give them something to catch. SWEET MARLENE (9) is first-up following an 11-month break. Goes well when fresh, placing at three of five attempts. No trials to use as a guide so keep a close watch on the betting. MARKWELL MELODY (6) has been freshened up since a poor run at Muswellbrook five weeks ago. Gets a few gear changes which may help the cause. The lightly raced ZELENKA (12) resumes after a 19-week spell. Wasn't far away on debut last prep so expect her to come to hand quickly. SUGGESTED PLAY: All Inked Up to win. |

DE BORTOLI WINES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1800m
From the wide alley Firealarm should cross and lead. RAISED BY WOLVES (9) caught the eye in a similar race won by Amalfi Amore here two runs back carrying 1.5kgs more than today. Tackled a BM82 subsequently over the mile at Coffs Harbour and did a tremendous job to charge home and finish less than a length from the winner. Clear top pick dropping back to a BM58 this afternoon. STROBING (2) finished just over a length ahead of Raised By Wolves when they clashed here at this trip two runs ago. Outclassed in town last time but back in this grade he is a serious contender. On-pacer DAMASCUS GATE (3) continued his fine run of recent form when a close third over 1600m at Taree a fortnight ago. Raced once over 1800m and was successful. Will give them a tough bunny to catch. AMALFI AMORE (4) defeated some of today's key rivals in a comparable race to this 22 days ago. Getting up in the weights but cannot be ruled out. ROCKBARTON ICON (1) has been struggling against better opposition but he deserves another chance back in a BM58. SUGGESTED PLAY: Keen on Raised By Wolves. |

WIN NETWORK CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1500m
Solid tempo with Born Conqueror leading from Warrant and Surpasser.
SURPASSER (6) was lining up for just the fourth time when he recorded a tough maiden win over 1600m at Wyong last start. Jumps straight to a Class 2 but he gets a dream run from the good draw and should acquit himself well. PICCADERRO (2) made it two wins from three runs this campaign when he came with a well-timed run to get home in a Class 1 over 1400m at Taree last time out. Kicked off this prep with a win here. Won't mind the slightly longer trip and looks tough to beat again. BORN CONQUEROR (7) raced on the speed and surprised many by hanging on for second when fresh from a lengthy spell over this course and distance recently. Drops back from a Class 3 to a Class 2 and will take a lot from that last run. Genuine threat. LOVE 'N' ROCKETS (4) comfortably took out a Class 1 at Coffs Harbour last start. Still has improvement to come at just the third run of the prep. WARRANT (10) is a chance based on a strong third here at this trip two back in a better race than this. SUGGESTED PLAY: Surpasser each-way in a tough race. |

CARLTON DRY COUNTRY BOOSTED BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1000m
Bondi Prophet and Prince Rupert possess good early speed and will set a genuine tempo.
YES YES BOSS (7) broke a run of outs with a tough win last start in a similar race to this at Tamworth. Has a wide gate to contend with but can press forward and find a spot in the leading division. Big chance to repeat the dose. CRAIG'S ONE (3) returned from a 32-week spell with an eye-catching second behind Dubalene over this course and distance on 22 February. Draws a far better gate this time and enjoys a 2kgs weight swing on today's rival which might tip things his way. DUBALENE (4) came from last to convincingly defeat Craig's One and seven others in a comparable race here recently when fresh from a spell. Draws a good gate and with added fitness is a great chance to make it two on the trot. TRYANZA (2) has been mixing his form. Placed at four of his six runs over today's distance and jumps from an ideal gate so he must go in the numbers. CRITICAL TIME (1) boasts a fine first-up record so despite 61kgs he should be highly competitive. SUGGESTED PLAY: Yes Yes Boss to win. |

PANTHERS PORT MACQUARIE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200m
Solid tempo anticipated with Via Vegas leading the way.
VIA VEGAS (2) led for the judge last start when resuming in the Country Championship qualifier over this course and distance but capitulated. Finds a far easier assignment today and his second-up record is sound. Everything points towards a much better run. SAVVYROCKER (3) was always behind the eight-ball after missing the kick last time out over 1250m at Taree. Down in class, draws a lovely gate, and is well in after Hull's claim so she gets the right conditions for a return to form. THE LUPERCAL (1) stormed home to get up for third when resuming over 1010m at Coffs Harbour recently. Won here in a similar race to this by over three lengths carrying 0.5kgs more last prep. Poses a serious threat. DUBALENE (13) returned from a spell with an emphatic win over 1000m at this track last start, the first run under new trainer Colt Prosser. Will enjoy the extra trip so another big run is on the cards. COCO DREAMING (4) is ready to peak fourth-up with winkers on for the first time. SUGGESTED PLAY: The top four picks are hard to separate - slight leaning to Via Vegas. |
